A wonderful stay
We rented Forget-me-Not and Swallows Rest for a week in August as a family gathering with 3 children. We loved it and so did the children! They especially loved the donkeys and being able to run in and out of each other's houses! The cottages are beautifully presented and very comfortable. Lisa and Graham were really helpful - I can't recommend these cottages highly enough!

Relaxing week in fabulous cottage.
We had a wonderful holiday in Swallows Rest. The cottage was extremely comfortable and relaxing. We couldn't have wished for better. Dave looked after us brilliantly for the first half of the week and his local knowledge was invaluable. Lisa and Graham were equally as welcoming and helpful. In spite of mixed weather we had a great time knowing that we had a warm, welcoming place to go back to. Thank you.

Immaculate cottage in a fabulous setting
We booked 2 of the 3 cottages for an extended family stay over the Easter weekend. With 3 generations needs to satisfy we were more than impressed by what greeted us upon arrival. The cottages are beautifully presented, home from home with everything you need and a high degree of facilities. We were greeted warmly by Lisa who also gave us information on local walks, the local pub and bus services too. We would highly recommend a stay there & look forward to visiting again.

Swallows Rest - simply the best !
As me and my missus sat on the sun baked patio of Swallows Rest sipping our wine and looking out over the fields to the distant Robins Hoods Bay she said to me "you've come up trumps with this one pet"....and indeed I had. Firstly the location is both beautiful and practical....the three cottages are situated in a tranquil place with lovely views. There is plenty to see and do in the area with both Whitby and Scarborough being short drives away...and if you want to leave the car there is a very regular bus service. Secondly the cottage itself is immaculate. It is tastefully decorated and is spacious. Fixtures and fittings are new and the luxury of underfloor heating is a bonus. Upon arrival we were impressed at it being spotlessly clean and that there was some Yorkshire cake and sticks of rock waiting for us. Lisa and Graham were very helpful with Lisa even taking our kids on her dog walk...thanks Lisa! I have stayed in numerous hired accommodation over the years and I have to rank this place as up there with the best....try it out!

About the host

Host profile image
Hi Im Lisa and live with my husband Graham on our 10 acre small holding, next door to the cottages. We enjoy welcoming guests to Meadowbeck and are on hand for advice/assistance but do give guests their privacy to get on with their stay in their own way.
We have 2 very friendly dogs, 2 donkeys who are out in the paddock from late Spring to Autumn, 2 goats, 4 sheep, chickens and ducks.
We moved here in 2012 and renovated our 1760's agricultural stone barn into 3 holiday cottages, our utility barn into a games room and added 3 Shepherd Huts - 1 near the barn and 2 off-grid in our meadow.
Graham planted lots of apple trees and now enjoys making Yorkshire Cider.
It has been an exhausting journey, a labour of love but we have managed to stay married to each other and wouldn't swap it for the world.
We're very proud of what we have achieved and our wonderful guest reviews support that we are providing a great service.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the area whilst visiting my parents who live nearby in Scarborough. We were keen to buy a property which allowed us to run a holiday cottage business but also gave us the opportunity to renovate a building ourselves and start the business from scratch.
We moved in July 2012 & started work on the barn - which had only housed Cows and Swallows since 1760 and is the reason for naming this cottage Swallows Rest.

We love living here surrounded by the beautiful North York Moors and looking out on our animal family every day. It's such a peaceful esape with great walks on the doorstop, yet close to amenities and the hustle and bustle of life when you need it.
It's great to share our dream with our guests and we love seeing guests return to Meadowbeck - even the Swallows return year after year (although they've been downgraded to the outbuidlings)!

What makes this property unique

Meadowbeck Holiday Cottages are in a great location. Stunning countryside and moorland views, as well as the beautiful coastline - what more is there?
Easy to access just off the main A171 Scarborough to Whitby road, yet in a quiet, peaceful area within the North Yorkshire Moors.
All accommodation has views of open countryside & the sea. There is an abundance of wildlife on our doorstep and the lack of light pollution gives us some amazing night skies - perfect for star gazing. We regualrly feed the birds, so that guests can enjoy their antics on the birdfeeders and nesting boxes.
Easy access by car or bus (from the top of our lane) to a number of quaint villages and coastal towns.
There is plenty of free parking directly outside of the cottages for easy access.
We're doing our bit to take care of the environment and have an energy efficient heating source, solar panels and our water is provided from a natural spring. Our meadow is organic with an abundance of wildflowers and we manage our woodland area to encourage the wildlife.
Electric Vehicle Charger for guests use - fees apply.
Storage for cycles.
Public Footpath with walks to the moors and coast - straight from the accommodation.
Guests Games Room onsite.
Fresh free range eggs from our hens, when available.
Outside dog wash with hot & cold water.
