About this property
Exclusive hillside retreat with stunning view and hot tub, ideal for Loch Ness
Druim Buidhe ("Yellow Ridge") is situated in an elevated position near Loch Ness, with fantastic views over the village of Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness and the Monadh Liath mountains. We are a rural location with a working sheep farm nearby and easy access for walkers onto the heather-covered hills behind the property. Druim Buidhe is a short drive along a farm track from the tarmac road.
Druim Buidhe is light, airy, spacious and modern. An open plan kitchen/dining/living area leads to the bedroom, which has en suite walk-in shower and toilet. The bed is UK king size. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and kettle, as well as a good selection of cooking pans, utensils, glassware and crockery (including cafetière and teapot). There is a TV, DVD player (including selection of DVDs) and free Wi-Fi. A thermostat controls temperature. From the loungers on the private outdoor decking area you can enjoy the stunning view. There is ramp access for wheelchairs or strollers.
Druim Buidhe comes with its own outdoor hot tub for your exclusive use.
We welcome children. Please inform us ahead of time and, if need be, we can set up cribs, travel cots or rollaway beds, either in the bedroom or in the living room.
Our outdoor space is open, a bit wild and offers tremendous views and a surprising amount of sunshine given our location!
It is the perfect spot to get away from it all and enjoy watching the weather roll across the landscape or get straight out into the wilderness from the doorstep. We hope you can sit back, unwind and enjoy your stay in our beautiful surroundings.
Three other things…
1. Mobile signal can be weak and intermittent. However, our lodges have free Wi-Fi so you will able to stay in touch with the outside world (if you really want to!).
2. The property is situated in four acres of land, shared with the owners' home and a second holiday let, with a large, sloping lawn and some wilder areas, all of which you are welcome to enjoy. There is a small pond and an accessible stream that runs along one side of the property. There are also wood-stores around the property and large log-piles. All this provides a great place for children to explore. But we ask that parents please remain aware of the potential dangers and supervise their children at all times. In places, there is a steep drop down to the stream, and there is no fence.
3. We are next to a sheep farm with easy access to the hillside and would ask that walkers respect the countryside code (for example, leaving all gates as you find them and being sensitive to livestock, especially during lambing season).

About the host
Hosted by Suzanne and Richard

We are a family of five - Richard and Suzanne and our three small children. We have a friendly Jack Russell terrier. Though both born elsewhere (in England and Wales respectively), we both have Scotland and a love of its countryside in our blood, and we moved here in 2018 (from further south in Scotland) after falling in love at first sight with the views from this hillside. We have recently given up office jobs, and live in an adjacent property all year round. We are very happy to answer any questions, give you tips on what to do and where to eat, and provide advice and guides/maps of the local area. This is our family business and our life.
Why they chose this property
This is a spectacular part of the country, rich in historical and natural heritage, and we set our hearts on moving here some time ago. We fell instantly in love with this place the moment we saw it on a hot midsummer day, when the view took our breath away. And we loved the modern fittings and high ceilings of Druim Buidhe, which combine to give it a spacious, airy and uncluttered quality - not to mention its outdoor hot tub!
What makes this property unique
Staying here you really are in the heart of the countryside. We often wake up to find three roe deer enjoying our sloping lawn (which you look at also from Druim Buidhe). There are breathtaking views. A stream runs down the side of the property, and there is an old bench in a shady spot to sit down next to it or enjoy a paddle in summer. Behind the property you can walk straight onto heather moors with scattered juniper and gorse, and it's a short walk to a small loch nestled in the hills, with views of Loch Ness and of the higher mountains to the West and South-East. Because we are high up and we face south, we also get a surprising amount of sunshine.
If you choose to leave the hillside (you may not want to...), it's only two miles down the hill to the village of Drumnadrochit, with all its amenities, including places to eat and museums where you can find out all you need to know about Loch Ness and its history (including, of course, the monster). Castle Urquhart is a mile further on down the road. The majestic Loch Ness itself is well worth exploring. We are also a wonderful base for hillwalking - it's not far to Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Glen Strathfarrar, where some of Scotland's most extensive wilderness can be found. And, if you want to escape the countryside for a day, it's only a 25-minute drive into Inverness.
