About this property
Characterful, spacious 3 bedroom cottage in the heart of the North York Moors
Whinchat Cottage is a delightful 200 year old stone built cottage in Castleton which is in the stunning North York Moors national park and has a Co-op, 2 pubs and a tea room. The cottage is roomy having originally been 2 cottages and at one time was Police House for the area and still retains the original police cell (which is now the boiler room) complete with the Victorian cell door.
The cottage is full of character and charm with and has been refurbished to a high standard and is extremely comfortable and cosy. Every care has been taken to ensure that this cottage has everything you might need for an enjoyable and relaxing break. Downstairs the living room is cosy with beamed ceilings and a log burning stove, there is a sunny and elegant dining room with hand painted furniture and a meticulously equipped kitchen. Outside is a courtyard patio with cottage garden flower beds which is delightfully sunny and sheltered in the summer. Upstairs sleeps 6 plus 1 small child and again every consideration for comfort has been taken. The the bedrooms are thickly carpeted, the mattresses are new and are excellent quality and all adult bed linen is 100% Egyptian cotton.
Castleton is an excellent location for exploring the beautiful North York Moors, it has more amenities than most of the moorland villages having a Co-op and 2 pubs. The walking from here is superb and the Esk Valley Walk starts at Castleton. Days out to local attractions such as Whitby, The Moors Centre and the North York Moors steam railway are all within a 20 minute drive. Whinchat Cottage is at the east end of the village, close to the village amenities with views of The Howe from the front door and south facing windows.
