About this property
Strawfields. Stunning cottage in amazing location close to the sea + Games Barn.
The Stables is a stunning recent conversion of old stables with its own enclosed cottage garden and private parking. It is one of three cottages at Strawfields, which has the best of both worlds, a small holding of 8 acres in a lovely rural location, yet it is just a short drive to the beaches.
The Stables is a fantastic recent conversion of old stables with its own enclosed cottage garden and private parking. The cottage is all on one level and a gentle slope from the car parking area leads down to the French doors.
Sleeps 4 (Sorry no pets or children under 3 as there is a small stream in the garden)
Bedroom one has a vaulted ceiling with skylight and the original beams, a double size bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, smart TV, USB sockets and a private en-suite bathroom with bath, basin and WC
The second bedroom has two single beds that can be zip-linked together to make a king size bed on request, USB sockets, dresser, luggage rack and chair
The second bathroom with walk in monsoon shower, WC and basin
a large open plan kitchen/lounge and dining area original vaulted beams and oak floor
The Stables has original vaulted beams with an oak floor, it has a large open plan kitchen/lounge and dining area.
A truly perfect match of new and old. It is light and spacious. There is a large well equipped kitchen with a double oven, electric hob, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher
The lounge area has a large comfy sofa, easy leather chair and smart TV. To one corner is a study area with an antique desk, USB sockets and bookcase filled with an excellent selection of reading material and board games.
French doors lead out onto the sunny patio with garden furniture for 4 and BBQ, perfect for breakfast outside. It is a private and sheltered cottage garden with views across the stream and over the fields. Hidden at the end of the garden is a bridge made from wood from the original reclaimed manger and stable doors, that leads out to the fields and trampolines for the children to play.
What we provide:
bed linen, bath towels, tea towels
washing up liquid with a cloth, dishwasher tablets, hand wash
unlimited Wi-Fi and smart TVs
books, puzzles and toys
games barn and trampolines
plenty of space to store bikes and surf boards
a warm drying room for wet suits (available in cooler months)

About the host
Hosted by Alex
We had been dreaming of moving to Devon for many years, in the summer of 2014 we decided to pack up and make the dream become a reality! This is our story so far...
We relocated from Hook Norton in Oxfordshire, to North Devon in July 2014. I was under strict instructions not to leave ‘Hooky’ until the annual Beer Festival had taken place, so the following day we eventually said a sad farewell to all our lovely friends, and we shoe horned ourselves into the car, with everything including the kitchen sink, onward and forward with our adventure.
For the first two months we lived a fairly nomadic lifestyle, living in our faithful old bell tent, travelling around Devon, Cornwall, Wales and France. We had a fantastic summer visiting friends and exploring new places. However, with the school term looming it was time to find a home and start the new chapter of our lives. We rented for the first six months in Braunton, then found West Stowford Barton and best of both worlds, a crazy old house in a wonderful rural location and close to the sea. That was the start of 'Strawfields'.
From then on in, it has been all the wonderful people we have met along the way that has begun to shape the next part of our lives. A huge heartfelt thank you to all the lovely guests that have already experienced a holiday in one of the cottages, huts or tents at Strawfields. We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and hope you will return again soon. Also, a big thank you for all the lovely reviews you gave us, we really do appreciate all the comments you have left us.

Why they chose this property
Strawfields is made up of three 16th century cottages, The Stables, Owl Barn and Hayloft, all full of character with lots of quirky features. The best of both worlds; private and cosy, yet with the added bonus of a games room, trampolines and lots more. You can explore the fields, paddle in the streams, toast marshmallows in the fire pit and meet the animals. In the summer come and join us for breakfast on the terrace and pop-up pizza nights where you can make your own outdoor wood-fired pizzas. A truly fantastic rural location, yet just minutes from the best beaches in North Devon.
What makes this property unique
Strawfields is truly beautiful and absolutely perfect for families with children, or during term times a quiet private hideaway for couples . Strawfields is a haven for kids to explore and the games room is a fantastic added extra. Such a great location for anyone wanting to explore North Devon. We have wonderful friendly animals for you to meet and fields to explore, or just sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday time in your cottage and private garden.
