Inland there are the two National Parks ,Exmoor and Dartmoor both within easy reach for walks and out door adventures. The Torridge River and estuary are well known for bird watching and fishing, there are also 9 golf courses in North Devon , the closest of which is 3 miles away (Torrington).
Find tranquillity roaming the ten acres of fields and woodland on the farm or simply relax in the private, enclosed, garden with a cup of tea and one of Torrington's famous Chelsea buns!
Fresh and bespoke, recently renovated, the cottage has character.
Sleeps 4 with 2 cosy bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one with power shower, one with a bath/shower), an airy lounge with beams and open plan kitchen with locally sourced slate work tops and a ceramic hob and fridge. There are plenty of books , games and DVDs/CDs for relaxed evenings in too.

The cottage is lovely and warm and has adjustable radiators in each of the rooms.
The cottage is private and peaceful and has an altogether 'away from it all' feel to it . The main farm is just up the lane.

We had the best time, super pet friendly, very tranquil, lots of walking very close by, cottage was absolutely lovely and had superb views. LOVED the sheep neighbours Can’t wait to come back
Lovely rural location with views across the countryside. The cottage is comfortable, furnished simply with everything we needed and communication with Jenny and Alastair was excellent. The bathrooms were looking a little tired but there was plenty of hot water and a powerful shower.A great place for a relaxing getaway
Such a lovely cottage with beautiful views of the valley and a lovely garden that enjoys sunshine most of the day. A real slice of heaven. The cottage is wonderful and you'll feel relaxed and recharged after you've stayed here for a few days. Welcoming hosts and a stunning location. Highly recommended.

The property was in a quiet, peaceful and idyllic location for a relaxing and cosy stay. It was well equipped and well located for visiting the surrounding area. The hosts were very kind and accommodating. I would definitely consider staying there again.
We stayed 4 nights during Easter holidays. Had perfect weather, played tennis every day and explored north Devon. Cottage is in quiet location, with great views. We enjoyed watching and listening to the little lambs. Relaxing holiday all round. We are thinking about returning too. :-)

Perfect escapism!
Shepherd's Cottage is in the most idyllic setting. It was our 3rd visit and we had such a lovely, relaxing and peaceful holiday. The cottage is beautifully kept, and there are plenty of places to visit nearby - or, if you prefer, you can just soak up the peace and quiet in the garden.
Beautiful location and cottage. Perfect getaway with the family for Easter. Jenny and Alistair were amazing hosts. Thank you so much.
Hope to come back in the future.

Best place to be
First class We had a lovely time staying here. Dogs made very well. We had a busy time visiting friends staying somewhere else so was not the most restful stay. Going back again soon for a more relaxing stay a real gem a wonderful setting so peaceful.
We had a lovely relaxing week here with our dogs and kitten! You have everything you need in the cottage and it is central to everywhere for days out. Al and Jen are on hand for any advice or information regarding the local area.

This gem of a find was such a welcome home from home. Jenny and Alastair had thought of everything and this meant that the kids were well entertained even on the rainiest day. We loved exploring the stream, playing tennis and meeting our lovely hosts. The local area is brilliant and we followed some of the recommendations for the local bakery and take aways. Our dog was made very welcome everywhere, we would love to return some time.
The cottage was lovely and bright & had everything you need - but no microwave which didn't bother us as we didn't need one.Jenny & Alistair were lovely and left us to get on with enjoying their cottage whilst were on hand should we need them. The enclosed garden was a bonus with the puppy and she enjoyed watching the sheep & lambs playing.Would definitely recommend this cottage & would love to stay there again.

Fabulous!
We spent a wonderful 3 nights at the delightful Shepherd's Cottage, near Instow. The cottage itself was beautifully appointed, warm and cosy and set on top of a hill, surrounded by fields. Perfect for dogs and children with lots of walks and nearby beaches to visit. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, and I will be doing my best to go back soon!

About the host
Hosted by Jenny and Alastair Bremner at the farm
We wanted to bring up our two children in the countryside. We love the sea and walking on the moors and were attracted to North Devon because of its away from it all feel. We like to support our local towns, Instow and Torrington which have all the shops we need and are very friendly. We all play music, Alastair -violin and flute, Jenny -cello and double bass , Cathy - piano and banjo and Jim - guitar and drums and have got to know lots of musicians locally.
Why they chose this property
The farm had been in the same family for many generations and when we discovered it nothing much had changed. We even found the old cooking pot which used to stand above the open fire! We fell in love straight away and the farm's renovation has given us a life long project ever since!
What makes this property unique
We love living on top of a hill , there's lots of light and big views. We are away from the coastal tourists yet close enough to decide to go for a quick swim in the evenings after work! Whenever we feel in need of culture our local lively art centre , The Plough, gives us live music/cinema/theatre etc so we have the best of both worlds. Also there are lots of cosy pubs serving real ale where we can go after our out door adventures!
