Quinta Devónia - Nogueira, with sea view

How about spending a vacation in a country house that is very close to the city and all tourist activities?

While in the center people live a normal and fast city life, in the high zones, near the mountains, the calm and country atmosphere is a reality. In this small villa composed by three nice properties you can enjoy all the calm and serenity with a wide view of the Atlantic Ocean and Funchal.
This small ‘farmhouse’ has three stone-walled houses, with different typologies and surrounded by small gardens. The houses have the name of trees that exist on our island.
This house has a bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower. The house has a kitchenette and is fully equipped. Maximum capacity of two people.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
In the Choupana area you will find a restaurant which is a 2-minute drive from the property. The nearest bakery is a 5-minute drive away and the supermarket is a 10-minute drive away, close to the city center.
The city center is a 15-minute by car.
The area is calm and quiet. From here you can travel to any part of the island through the municipal roads that have connection to the highway.
Renting a car is the best option to discover the island at your own pace.

GETTING AROUND
The best option to get to the property is by transfer. Ask us to arrange one with our local partners. It's cheaper than the cabs you'll find at the airport. If you rent a car, any navigation app will easily find the address.

Guests have access to all areas of the flat.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (E.g. passport, identity card).
- Check-in must be scheduled in advance. In case the check-in is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours prior arrival, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also provide a crib, a baby high chair and a baby bathtub if needed. First aid kit, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are available in all properties.

Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. Beautiful

A very lovely cottage with beautiful gardens and an amazing view! The road is a bit steep to get to but we managed absolutely fine, if your a nervous driver be aware. The cottage had a few very minor issues but it was gorgeous

Two weeks in lovely views

We spend here for two weeks and it was so wonderful. The place was exactly like in pictures and the view was almost more beautiful. It was nice and quiet and everyone was so helpful. We didn't have car, so needed good shoes for hiking, but the bus goes also quite near and quite often.

Lovely peaceful accommodation in the hills with a great view. Simple set-up but has everything you need for a week. The hosts were really good at communicating and resolved issues very quickly. You just need to be a confident driver to get up the steep roads leading to the property.

Beautiful cabin in the garden

You will stay in a charming cottage, surrounded by an astonishing garden and overlooking the vast, enchanting ocean. The cottage is not very new, you can see that most of its equipment has been heavily used for many years. But this is not the five star hotel that you were signing up for, so you are ok with the scratches on the sofa, broken bench on the terrace or some ants in the bathroom and just embrace the tranquility and beauty of this place. Some sad vibes with the leftovers of a SPA nearby that burned in the 2016' wildfire, hope it will be renovated soon and this beautiful levada will regain its past glamour!

An unexpected Paradise

This was supposed to be a romantic adventure for my husband and I but at the last moment he was unable to go with me so it became was solo adventure. Admittedly driving on Madeira Island can be surprising because of the narrow roads and fast speeds the locals drive. I was a little nervous trying to find the location but once I understood how to open the gate to the property I was amazed by even the driveway. It was covered with flowers the entire way to my cottage. I parked in a parking area and walked down to my cottage and it was just gorgeous. Almost hidden with hydrangeas and agapantha blooms. It looks over the ocean from the outside area and I almost hated to even go inside. It was just adorable. The kitchen had a slightly vintage feel to it, which I loved and the bedroom upstairs was super charming. I almost wish I had more free time to be able to just hang out at the cottage and enjoy its beauty. It also had a walking trail that I found that went to a lookout over the valley where you could see houses across the way perched on the mountain. This was really cool, I even went out there with a flashlight at night as and saw a little church and houses lit up at night as the fog crept in it made some really amazing pictures. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and if I ever go back to Madeira Island this is where I'm staying! I highly recommend it if you don't mind driving a little bit out of town to enjoy the beauty, the quiet and the views. Tip the gate won't open if your car is

Unser 14-tägiger Aufenthalt war ganz Ok, Parkähnlicher Garten mit tollem Blumenmeer und herrlicher Blick auf das Meer,auch das Häuschen wirkt auf den ersten Blick verzaubert und gemütlich.Richtig sauber war es jedoch nicht.Böden und Treppenaufgang staubbedeckt, in den Ecken überall Dreck und Spinnenweben.Bad bräuchte eine Generalsanierung, Schimmel und Schmutz in der Dusche in den Ecken und Zwischenräumen , Handtuchhalter defekt, keine Möglichkeit etwas aufzuhängen.Duschkopf war bei Ankunft abgerissen wurde am dritten Tag repariert.Nach einer Woche Wechsel der Handtücher , die mit zwei kleinen und zwei etwas grösseren etwas knapp kalkuliert waren ,da Trocknung sehr schwierig war.Das einzige und nach einer Woche verschmutzte Geschirrtuch wurde zusammengefaltet zur weiteren Benutzung in die Besteckschublade zurückgelegt.Haus war nach Wechsel der Handtücher und Bettwäsche und Reinigung vom Reinigungsteam bei unserer Ankunft Abends unverschlossen, das geht gar nicht!Terasse und Eingangsbereich verschmutzt bei Anreise.Liegen und Aussenmöbel ebenfalls nicht sauber, die Auflagen der Liegen und Stühle mit Brandflecken übersät und schmutzig wenig einladend zum draufsetzen.Ansich ein ruhiges Fleckchen,ländliche Umgebung weg vom Trubel mit herrlicher Aussicht. Das ständige Gebell der Hunde in der Nachbarschaft,sogar nachts nervt und stört die Idylle gewaltig.Wenn etwas mehr auf Sauberkeit geachtet würde wäre der Aufenthalt wesentlich angenehmer.

Schöne Unterkunft in ruhiger Lage

Check-In lief super mit Infos per Mail. Grundsätzlich sehr ruhige und geräumige Unterkunft. Jedoch waren einige Hunde in der Nachbarschaft, die den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht durchgebellt haben. Das hat die Idylle ein bisschen gestört.

Schönes Häuschen in den hügeln über Funchal

Es war ein schöner Aufenthalt in diesem Häuschen, schöner Blick vom Hügel hinab. Auch im Sommer hatten wir angenehme Temperaturen. Das haus selbst ist nett eingerichtet. Die Anfahrt ist etwas herausfordernd da es doch weit oben auf einem steilen Hügel steht, aber ist das erst mal geschafft erwartet einen ein nettes Häuschen.

Wunderbare Aussicht

Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit der Unterkunft. Die Lage ist schon fast ländlich oberhalb von Funchal mit Blick auf ein Seitental und den Atlantik. Neben ein paar feuchten Abenden, wenn der Passat die Wolken an Land treibt und sie sich oben auf Höhe der Quinta in den Bergen festhängen, hatten wir auch sonnige Abenden. Praktisch war die gute Anbindung an das Bussystem, in nur 15 Minuten ist man unten in der Innenstadt am Atlantik. Die Anfahrt ist etwas schwierig. Am besten lässt man sich zum Eingang des ehemaligen Choupana Hill Spa Ressort leiten. Gleich darüber ist Quinta Devonia in ihrer tollen Gartenanlage.

Ruhig und Entspannt

Das Haus ist super ruhig oben auf dem Berg über Funchal gelegen. Am besten schaut man sich vorher Mal genau an wo das Navi einen lang fahren lässt, da die kürzeste Route auch die schmalste und steilste Straße ist die man finden kann, es gibt einen besseren, angenehmeren weg als den. Das Haus selber ist schon und sauber, lediglich das Bad hätte eine Sanierung nötig. Daher gibt es davon wohl auch keine Bilder. Den Außenbereich könnte man ebenfalls liebevoller und sauberer gestalten. Alles in allem waren wir zufrieden aber das gewisse etwas und der Blick für's Detail fehlt.

Great and authentic house

Great location on the mountain, away from the noise and tourism. The terrace is great and we spent many hours relaxing there and enjoying the view. The water pressure in the shower was less than good, and the beds a little to the hard side, but I think that’s the only negative thing we have to say about this lovely house. The drive up there was very scary! In the end we ended up taking a route via the football stadium which felt more secure, so we recommend that if the narrow mountain roads scare you a bit.

We would LOVE to come back to this charming little house!

This was one of our best vacations. We loved our charming little Nogueira house and the spacious garden with spectacular flowers and ferns and trees. We enjoyed the self catering facilities as well as the possibility to order food. The neighbourhood is quiet and pleasant. Communication with our hosts (An Island Apart) was smooth and fast. We would love to return to Madeira for another stay at Quinta Devonia.
