The cottage was very, very nice in every way, location, size of the rooms especially the lounge it was ideal for four adults. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you may have needed. I would recommend it to anyone, we had a great visit, lots to do and see and then being able to come back to the footage, perfect.

Retreat to this Cosy Cottage for a Well Deserved B
If you are looking for somewhere peaceful, with character, private yet a drive away from some of the rural and historical attractions of the Peak District then these cottages would be perfect for you. We stayed in the Maigold cottage and were impressed with how spacious yet cosy it was. There are some lovely views and although we didn't go out (too cosy and warm inside! ) there are plenty of walks to do. It was just what we needed to relax and unwind, so quiet but with all the comforts and mod cons you would need to make your stay a homely one. Julie and Brian, the owners are really welcoming and friendly and I loved that there was a Christmas tree inside and outside the cottage which was such a nice thought. We will definitely be back!

A Warm Welcome and Fantastic Cottage
The care at Maigold starts from the moment you book with welcoming e-mails that let you know all will be well for your stay. We were warmly greeted by Julie on arrival and she showed us into the cottage. It was spotlessly clean, light and airy with pretty and well cared for furnishings. It has everything you need for a self catering holiday with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room with tv DVD player and a piano! The cottage is just 10 minutes away from Bakewell, a source of plentiful bakeries, a good butchers and a well stocked Co-op. There were chocolates on the pillows and a welcome tray of tea, coffee, sugar and locally made fudge. There were also fresh flowers on the table. There was lots of information to help us plan our stay and it this is an ideal base for walking and for visiting Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House. Sadly the weather was rather unkind but it was lovely to have a peaceful, comfortable and cosy base to return to in the afternoon. We look forward to staying again in the future.

Perfect cottage in peaceful location
The cottage is situated in the hills north of Ashford-in-the-Water just off the A6 (not that you would know you weren't far from this road). It is so peaceful with lovely views across the valley. There are a number of walks from the property. The cottage is tastefully furnished, very comfortable & well equipped. Despite the unseasonably cold weather we had, the cottage was very warm with the central heating with the option of lighting the wood burning stove. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maigold cottage and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Fresh, clean, light, comfortable and cosy.
The property has everything you could need (except possibly a knife sharpener) and is clean, comfortable and cosy. The views are amazing and if you want peace and quiet it is there in buckets. We were lucky with the weather - it was cold but sunny and the access to wide open countryside and super places for picnics is endless. Bakewell and Buxton are easily accessible for any shopping. We only ate out one night, which was at the pub in Taddington and we wouldn't recommend it, but there must be other places. We found that when we got back to the cottage we didn't want to go out again and so made ourselves simple meals there each night. Would really recommend this place to anyone seeking peace and quiet and lovely scenery.

Perfect cottage in an idyllic spot!
Maigold is much more spacious than it looks in the pictures. I'd also missed the fact it has a piano, which was a lovely treat! It is in a wonderful, quiet setting, whilst not being isolated, as the owners' cottage and other rental cottage are next door. It is in a beautiful steep-sided valley, hard to do justice to it in photos, but it makes for great post-dinner walks from the front door in the evenings, with rabbits hopping around the hillside, and the children loved finding a secret rope swing on a hill nearby. Brushfield is just two minutes off a main road (but not near enough for any road noise) so there is very easy access to key places of interest. Brian and Julie were very helpful and available for any queries as needed.

Wonderful cottage in a beautiful location.
We love this cottage and its location, it has been thoughtfully converted from a farm building to a practical, well equipped comfortable holiday cottage Ideally situated for all that the peak district has to offer. It is tucked away in a small welcoming community away from the main road and embraces the local countryside and wildlife. There are walks from the cottage to Monsal head and beyond with Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Buxton a short drive away.
The owners are at hand in a cottage close by, they are super people, welcoming, helpful and friendly.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

A Derbyshire gem!
Maigold is a Derbyshire gem! It is in a beautiful, quiet location, with a fabulous large country kitchen and a big but cosy sitting room. None of these pokey kitchens or small receptions rooms that you find in so many cottages of a similar price. The cottage is on one level, well-maintained, and full of character. The beds are comfy, the welcome exceptionally warm, and the information available about places to visit in the area is as good as any tourist office. It is a wonderful centre to explore the Peak District , with lots of FABULOUS walks - both up on the peaks and down in the dales - and lots of places of interest including Bakewell Market, the theatre in Buxton, Hardwick Hall and Chatsworth. Not to mention the wonderful local pubs, tea rooms and coffee shops! You couldn't wish for a nicer cottage - or a nicer area to explore. We will be back!

Lovely, light cottage in beautiful countryside.
This cottage is pretty on the outside, with a lovely yellow rose climbing over the entrance, and a sun trap patio in the corner. The sitting rooms French windows open onto the patio and you can see the hills and fields in the distance. A very restful and quiet place. My mum and I felt very much at home here, and the owners were very friendly, and helpful. Mum particularly enjoyed everything being on ground floor level and the separate shower room that was NOT over the bath! The cottage was well looked after and nice and light with lots of windows and spacious rooms. The sitting room and the whole cottage was much larger than I expected, with comfortable seating and a well equipped kitchen. We would both love to stay there again and would highly recommend it to friends.

Holiday in the heart of the Peak District
Maigold Cottage was a home away from home, warm and welcoming, as were the owners, Julie and Brian. The views from the doorstep were stunning and the opportinity to walk from the cottage along the Wye river valley or to Monsal Head were amazing! It was also easy driving distance to Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Castleton and other lovely locations in the Peak District. We visited during half term and are lucky that our kids like walking so we managed to go on walks 4 days out of the 6 we were there, including walks over Mam Tor and the Great Ridge, around Chatsworth estate, from Peak Forest and along to Monsal Head. The listing description was accurate, the property was clean and very well equipped and I would thoroughly recommend the cottage and loaction. We found some lovely places to eat, including the No. 6 Tearooms in Buxton, great if you need gluten free options!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting
We loved our stay here, it's a very spacious cottage with large rooms throughout but still beautifully snug and cosy. It's in a very peaceful location with no road noise and in a scenic setting but shops/pubs are just a few miles away. We particularly enjoyed the well marked walks that start right from the door. Thanks to Julie and Brian for being so welcoming.

Maigold Cottage
Maigold cottage is a well equipped haven in a beautiful setting. All home comforts have been thought of and the log burner was lovely and cosy in the Feb chilly weather. The setting is secluded with picturesque views, but close to local amenities and attractions. We hope to return to do more walking!

Simply ideal
Maigold is a beautiful, charming, clean and spacious cottage, set in a wonderful, peaceful location overlooking the Wye valley and open countryside. There are good walks from the door with Millers Dale and Monsal Head within easy reach. Bakewell is less than 10 minutes drive away.
The owners Brian and Julie are lovely hosts who made us feel very welcome on the two occasions we have visited. We will certainly be returning and will also be encouraging friends to enjoy a stay in this lovely cottage.

About the host

Why they chose this property
We discovered Brushfield in 1999 and decided that this was the place we wanted to live because of its spectacular location in the heart of the Peak District. It's in a great rural setting, surrounded by fields and woodland, off the beaten track - yet close to all the amenities and attractions of the area. Initially our children loved it, because of the space and amenities it had. In their teens it was too quiet for them and we were constantly taxiing them around to their social engagements! More recently they love coming back with their friends and partners, to enjoy the qualities that attracted us in the first place!
What makes this property unique
Stunning rural location, superb views giving us peace, fresh air and space. Modern conversion that has sympathetically retained traditional features. In heart of Peak Park and easy access to all attractions. Allows us to indulge in the outdoor activities that we so enjoy.
