Casa Sisse is situated in a suburb, east of Funchal, the capital of Madeira island, with a picture postcard view over the city and the Bay.
It is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with no traffic near the house. On the Google map it looks like the house sits right next to the motorway. However, as we are placed on a hillside*), the house lies some 6 to 8 meters below the surface of the motorway, and besides, my own house lies between the motorway and Casa Sisse offering further noise protection. *) Hence the suggestion of renting a car.
The house was built in 1981 with a large kitchen, large living room, one bedroom with sea view and a second bedroom in the back of the house, both equipped with double beds. Maximum number of guests is 4.
The house has comfortable chairs, sofa, beds and pillows, duvets, blankets, wardrobes and a bathroom with shower. The house has a sociable open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room area.
The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and electric fan oven, as well as other household appliances. In the front garden is a table seating 4 persons, and deck chairs. The house has broadband internet access / Wi-fi and cable TV. Private parking next to the house.
The owner is a Danish expatriate who lives nearby. He has many years of experience with tourism in Madeira and will help you with tips and suggestions if needed.

We had a wonderful stay. Toger was exceptionally welcoming and kind throughout our time there. It was a great pleasure to stay at his place in Madeira. The accommodation could use a little TLC but it had everything we needed and we loved the location. Although it was out of the way a little bit we used taxis via the Bolt app and got on just fine.
Beautifull viewpoint from the house. It is calm, well located near town center. We can find all equipments in the house. We feel very well in the house and we spent wonderful holidays.
Well kept older cottage that is exceptionally equipped with everything needed for an extended stay. Located on a steep hill - a car and GPS is needed to get there, but good view of Funchal harbour with total privacy. Toger is a great host who makes sure any problem or issue is taken care of promptly.
I would like to sincerely thank Toger for his incredible hospitality. The house in Funchal was absolutely perfect – clean, comfortable, beautifully located, and full of charm. It instantly felt like home.Toger was an exceptional host: kind, attentive, always available to help. You can truly feel the care he puts into making his guests’ experience as enjoyable as possible.I loved every moment spent in this house and would return without hesitation. Thank you again, Toger, for such a wonderful stay!
Had a great week here and thoroughly enjoyed Madeira! Toger was a superb Host. He lives above the cottage and is extremely kind / accommodating! Cottage is well stocked with anything and everything you might need. Be aware that driving to this location is a bit of an adventure - but that seems to be the norm on Madeira! Overall, very happy with my stay!!

Hi Eric
Thank you very much indeed for those nice words!!
I'm sorry that I didn't realize that I wouldn't see you before your departure, when I drove out
Wishing you all the best
Kindest regards
Toger
This was a quiet getaway cottage only 15 minutes outside of the city center by bus. The location was perfect. We were there 2 months. The kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals. Table and chairs outside to sit, eat, or lounge under the brilliant sun The view was amazing to wake up to every day. It was so quiet and peaceful.
The owner, Toger, is a kind and generous soul. It was a pleasure to get to know him. His offers of help were deeply appreciated.
Tögur is a very pleasant host that gives a lot of nice information.
The information beforehand was clear and we could checkin midnight.
The house was humble and it had all that was needed. (Kitchen was overcomplete)
The view on Funchal is amazing.
We felt very welcome and would really advice booking this place for every stay.
Remember when booking if this is something for you:
-Easy going and nice host, to have a good talk (lives nextdoor)
-good views on Funchal
-everything you need is there (washing machine, dishwasher, towels for showering, sunbed)
-little outdated. Bit molt in the bathroom
Tögur, thank you for the pleasant stay.

Dear Nick
Thank you very much indeed for your kind review!! (I shall take care of the mould next time I'm don in the house: I have new guests there right now.
I hope that your return trip was pleasant and that you will have a continued fine summer
Take care both of you
Kind regards from a rather hot (32º) Madeira
Yours
Toger
Very nice cosy place where we spent 13 nights. Very clean, well equipted kitchen and closed to Funchal, a nice base camp for exploring Madeira.
Highlights: Sunset from the porch, very quiet (no nosy neighbour), parking, hot water, lot of space (full house). The host has been very generous with its time guiding us from the airport to the house with its own car. A very nice guy, very attentive! His house is just aside the place and easy to reach.
Downnside: a bit dark inside the house even with full light on. No bathtub. The shower need a drain clean up as the water fill up to an inch on its base covering your feet but gradually water makes its way out once you shut down the water. Also its old wooden side walls got several black stained spots in the corners and around the base which is not very appealing to get inside. I thing it's time to replace that unit to gain an extra star.
Overall, a good deal for what it provides, I would recommend that place and I would rent it again.
Toger is an absolute legend and his cottage is lovely. A little rustic but immaculately clean, thanks to the lovely lady that comes and looks after that side of things. It’s also the best equipped rental I think I’ve ever stayed in. It’s on the outskirts of Funchal in an area called Sao Concalo, up a steep hill with some lovely views over the harbour. We really enjoyed watching all the ships come and go every day. It was particularly beautiful once the sun went down and all the city lights went on. There’s a cute garden area with seating and loungers. Toger has two lovely, very polite dogs who may come and visit you if you’re lucky, but if dogs aren’t your thing, you can just shut the garden gate and they won’t bother you.
Inside the cottage, both bedrooms are spacious with very comfortable beds. We both slept exceptionally well every night. The living room is very big with comfortable seats and a huge sofa. There’s TV and stuff, but we never used it, so can’t comment on the channels or whatever. The bathroom was clean and the shower worked well. The kitchen and dining area had everything you needed for a comfortable stay, with a good sized fridge and a fan oven that worked fine, as well as a gas hob. We also made use of the bbq a couple of nights we were there. Wifi worked well.
I loved it so much that I’m coming back next year.
I spent 3 months here.It is roomy and well situated.I would suggest you need a car.Madeira is very hilly, getting to the bus is reserved for those in shape.Hills are not limited to the neighborhood but on the entire island. To give you an idea, the whole island is mountainous with no less than 153 highway tunnels, some 2km.If you pickup a car after dark, would suggest you leave it on Rua do Serrado,at the property entrance in the large circle area just below. The parking spot is in the middle of the hill on the property at a sharp
right turn with low level wall. Very very difficult to see when it's pitch black. €549 later,I can give you some adviceThe phrase "a gentleman and a scholar" was coined for the owner,Toger Amby, who really fits the bill. It was a pleasure to stay on his property. The cleaning lady, Paula,is very efficient, friendly and comes every week. The kitchen fridge is a good size with a large enough freezer, both work very well. The dishwasher is also excellent. The hot water is provided by an Instant-on gas burner located behind the house in the add-on covered alley, where the automatic washer is located. The view of Funchal harbour from the front steps is magnificent. The weather here is generally fair and stableThe expressways and major highways are excellentTo sum it up,This selection is very welcoming with large rooms. It is good value for the money. Rest assured that Toger will be on hand to ascertain that your visit is a pleasant and memorable one.ThankYou Toger

I am a Danish expatriate, and I have lived in Madeira for more that 50 years. I have, since my arrival here, been occupied with tourism, and I still am.. I do speak several foreign languages, besides the Scandinavian languages, as for example English, some German, a little French and, of course, Portuguese. My own house lies just behind Casa Sisse, so I am quite easy to 'get hold of', in case needed, and I shall be quite happy to help you with suggestions and advise.
