About this property
Character Cottage Peak District & Alton Towers
Lower House Farm Cottage 1 is bright and welcoming, maintaining the original features of the old farmhouse with spectacular uninterrupted views over the fields and countryside. It is located in a charming village with every opportunity for some lovely country walks or cycling on quiet country lanes. The large South facing patio catches the sun every day and there is plenty of room for outside dining and relaxing. The cottage is all yours to enjoy during your stay and the enclosed garden provides a safe place to play for younger children.
The three-bedroom house comfortably accommodates up to six guests to make it ideal for families and friends who want to explore the nearby Peak District National Park, get their adrenaline racing at Alton Towers, or discover the natural beauty of the Dales and Moorlands.
Any time is the right time to enjoy a holiday in the Derbyshire Dales.. One of the most impressive buildings in the area is the magnificent Chatsworth House where you should put aside an entire day to see the stunning house and gardens that have been owned by the Cavendish family for 16 generations. If you enjoy walking amongst spectacular scenery, nearby Dovedale is a popular beauty spot renowned for its picturesque stepping stones and Thorpe Cloud which reaches a height of 942ft and was used in the filming of the 2010 film Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe .
Attractions close to the cottage include not only Alton Towers and Chatsworth House, but also Haddon Hall, Carsington Water, the Heights of Abraham cable cars, Great Rutland and Masson Caverns show caves, Gullivers Kingdom, and the Peak Wildlife Park. Days out can include visits to the nearby market town of Ashbourne, Shopping with cinema/bowling/ice skating in Uttoxeter, the spa town of Buxton, historic Bakewell, and the Trentham Estate where there is Monkey World and a shopping village.
It is possible to hire a bike in the nearby town of Ashbourne giving you the ability to explore far and wide along fantastic trails such as Tissington, Carsington Reservoir and Monsal. Monsal Head, directly above Monsal Dale, is one of the most famous and photographed viewpoints in Derbyshire. The combination of the winding River Wye at the bottom of the steep dale, the famous Headstone viaduct, Fin Cop hill and Hob's House cave are all elements that make a walk through Monsal Dale or the view outstanding.
Even before it became the earliest national park in the UK, the Peak District has been a favourite year-round holiday destination. The beautiful landscape combined with fantastic attractions and a fascinating past makes it perfect for everyone no matter what their age or interest

About the host
Hosted by Mark Wordley

I love living in Roston and the cottage was formerly my family home, where I grew up on the farm, with many happy memories of haymaking and playing in the fields and neighbourhood. I still have a huge love of animals and the countryside and I'm sure you will see our mini Shetland ponies popping up to the gate to see who is visiting. There are some great walks across the fields right next to the cottage and we can help you explore the area and make the most of your stay.
