A Snowy 70th

We planned this getaway for my wife's 70th birthday in April. We wanted a quiet, peaceful retreat and that's exactly what we got. The house is just as it is advertised but, even more cozy. When we arrived, it had been warmed up for us. We wasted no time getting a woodfire going in the woodstove and that's what we used most of the weekend. The kitchen was well equipped and clean---as was the whole house. There was a complimentary breakfast basket with everything needed for making pancakes, even the maple syrup. This was perfect as I had brought our favorite pancake mix but had forgotten the syrup! The beds were very comfortable (with the exception of the futon in the living room---fine to sit on as a couch but not great for sleeping---but I have never met a futon that was). Throughout the house are notes about how to use the different appliances, turn the tv/dish on etc. These were helpful details. Communication with the owners was excellent from start to finish. During my booking I asked for scent free linens, and they were happy to oblige. Our first morning there we were contemplating having to leave early because of a sick cat at home. One caveat, we were in the middle of a snow storm and expecting it to continue into early afternoon. I contacted the owner to ask about plowing and she was highly responsive, giving me the needed information. Fortunately, our cat improved, we were able to stay the weekend, and enjoy being snowed in. We look forward to going back!

Lovely spot

We stayed at this home during an especially snowy winter. And despite a large winter storm and a brief power outage, it was cozy and super fun! Fern made herself very available for everything we needed. Stay here if you’d like a bit of solitude and to be out in nature, with a comfy space to return to after exploring.

Great winter getaway!

We drove up in the snow, and had a cozy warm weekend playing cards by the fire. Took a nice drive to Wilmington to mozy around and get some good food. Perfect, remote spot for an active dog.

Fantastic cabin with excellent hosts

We loved staying in this adorable A-frame in a very scenic and quiet corner of Vermont. It's well-appointed, comfortable, and on a gorgeous plot of land. We had a few small logistical hiccups (due in part to coming up during holiday weekend during a big snowstorm) but Fern could not have been more responsive or helpful. It felt like staying at a friend's house. Would love to stay here again!

Perfect Fall Location

We had a fabulous time during our stay! The hosts were very quick with any communication or questions. The location is exactly as pictured. Having baby items (pack and play and high chair!) already there was so nice for our packing and our dog loved the outdoor space. We enjoyed a fire outside and local trails. Highly recommend for good New England leaf peeping. We only wish we stayed longer to be able to visit the local attractions.

Sisters’ Weekend

Our weekend at the cabin could not have been more perfect. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat away from the chaos, this is the place to be. The cutest cabin and beautiful surroundings for those fall vibes of your dreams. Close to Wilmington for a cute walk around to visit local shops and restaurants. Fern and Hannah are very attentive, accommodating and quick to respond if you have any questions. Would absolutely stay again! 10/10 would recommend!

Quiet Hidden House in the Trees

Lovely summer get-away for me and my little dog! We relaxed in the comfortable house with Keurig coffees and window A/Cs, and took day trips to the dog-friendly parks, lakes, waterfalls, covered bridges, breweries and restaurants. A fun outdoorsy Vermont adventure!

Private Getaway

The property was extremely private and the house was very cozy. We enjoyed nearby Harriman Reservoir and went on a nice hike. The property also has a nice trail that circles the house that we utilized everyday as well as a fire pit in the backyard. Overall we had an amazing stay!

About the host

Hosted by Fern and Hannah Stampleman

Host profile image
Steve, Fern, and Hannah Stampleman come from New York City, New York. In the 1970's after several cross-country camping trips the 10-acre piece of land with an A-frame shell on it was purchased. It got built up, Hannah came along, and the family enjoyed many seasons of away time together and still do! They have been renting since 1981. They enjoy hosting because it gives them the opportunity to share what they love about this "great escape!"

Why they chose this property

This neighborhood nestled in a community of Vermonters was the choice because it afforded the family a private, stunningly fresh, and beautiful getaway They have enjoyed learning about Vermont living.

What makes this property unique

The property is off the beaten path, the last of three places, secluded at the end of a private road. The land surrounding it is spacious, hosting many trees and greenery. Like the hosts, you may enjoy seeing the morning sun peek through the perimeter of the property, studying the spellbinding cloud formations from the deck, and marveling at the "dance of the leaves" when a breeze comes by, all from the comforts of "home." The area beyond the property has much to offer, exciting and engaging everyone. Some guests have said that this property is rustic but connected!
