You can catch the passenger ferry across the Exe estuary, or enjoy a sunset drink in one of the local riverside venues. On the Exe estuary itself, midway between the old port of Topsham and the seaside resort of Exmouth, the beautiful sandy beaches and rock pools are at the start of the Jurassic Coast and form part of the South West Coastal Path. The estuary has a picturesque harbour and is a renowned nature reserve, which is a haven for wildlife and migrating birds, a wide range of which can be observed along the edges of the estuary.
Crealy Adventure Park is just 3 miles away, and for cyclists there are many cycle ways, one running from Exmouth, through Lympstone and onto Topsham and the Exeter canal, following the river for most of the way. There are many National Trust properties all waiting to be explored, and Darts Farm, a short distance away, is worth a visit and where you can stop and enjoy a meal. The city of Exeter is within easy reach and has great shopping, a historic cathedral, a theatre and the underground passages attraction. Woodbury common is on the doorstep, and Dartmoor is an easy drive, both offering great walking and scenery. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
