Thanks to Suzy and family, who through their generosity made us feel most welcome throughout our stay, we have many fond memories of our stay in Rufina. Placed high on the hillside above Rufina, the property itself provided breathtaking views - we were always happy to return after a day out just to relax and enjoy the local scenery. Within easy reach of places such as Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano and Siena, the property turned out to be ideal for touring. Not familiar with Italian roads we were a tad nervous about getting around at first, but soon got the hang of it. Driving to Siena and San Gimignano turned out to be quite straightforward, though we took the train to Florence and Pisa. With a station five minutes away in Rufina (with parking not a problem) and regular train services, it was easy to travel far afield. Though visiting major tourist sites is a must, the local Mugello countryside is stunning - If we were to visit again we would most likely explore the local area in more detail.
During our stay we enjoyed meeting Suzy's family (including pets Bella and Jimmy) and were kept well-stocked with fruit from the garden. Suzy's local knowledge was invaluable - I doubt we would have found the excellent pizzeria by the nearby fishing lake, nor the view of the sunset from the windmill nearby. Having expert advice on hand certainly made things easier. The property was clean, well-maintained and contained everything that we needed - on arrival we quickly felt "at home".
We had a great time in Tuscany, thanks in no small part to Suzy, and can recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing base from which to explore the region. For the record, we enjoyed Siena and San Gimignano a lot more than we expected - certainly more than we enjoyed Florence and Pisa (though these places must be visited!).
