About this property
Slindon railway carriage
Hidden in the grounds of a farmhouse in Slindon village just outside Arundel is this glorious 100 year old railway carriage with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and living room/kitchen and a tennis court!
The carriage has been lovingly restored and guests will appreciate the incredible attention to detail and pretty furniture. There is a table, chairs, a sofa and a small television in the living room, together with a cooking area with small combi oven/microwave, electric hob, sink, under counter fridge and simple cooking equipment. The master bedroom is small (the width of a railway carriage and a small standing area!) but has a full size 4ft 6ins bed. Bedroom 2 is a tiny bunk room only suitable for children under 16.
The bathroom has a shower, a sink, a heated towel rail and a normal flushing loo (no chemical loo here!) but do be aware that this room is very compact, so is not suitable for very tall guests or those less mobile. There is heating throughout the carriage in cooler months.
There is no internet at the railway carriage but 4G works perfectly so guests can hotspot from their mobile. Wifi can be accessed in the garden nearer the farmhouse.
Guests are very welcome to borrow tennis rackets and balls and use the tennis court. There is outside seating and a BBQ for guests to enjoy during the warmer months.
The railway carriage is situated well away from the road in a tranquil and beautiful spot next to the tennis court in the garden, and adjacent to National Trust woods. The carriage is also located close to pony paddocks and stables on the other side of a fence so will appeal to horse lovers - but if you are allergic to horses or their environment this probably isn’t the place for you!
Slindon is a beautiful village almost entirely made up of National Trust houses between Chichester and Arundel. There is a village shop and café and a pottery shop. There are incredible walks right from the door either into National Trust Woods or up into the South Downs, the South Downs Way being around 3 miles away. The beach is about 15 minutes drive away.
