Overview of Location
We would love to have you stay in our remodeled and redecorated condo at the beautiful 18 acre, Four-Star Kanaloa at Kona Resort. Our Kona home is one bedroom, 2 bathrooms and is on the ground floor (no long stairways) and is located on He’eia Bay and overlooks Keauhou Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The unit is huge (unlike an apartment). Almost 1250 square feet! We are walking distance (a half mile) to the Keauhou Bay boat harbor where daily tours depart for various water-based activities, including what we believe is the best snorkel site on the island-the Marine Preserve at Kealakekua Bay (near Captain Cook’s Monument). AND about one mile to the Keauhou Shopping center with its many restaurants and a multiplex cinema and cultural events. You can also leave for nightly snorkel or diving trips with the manta rays, right at the entrance to Keauhou Bay. World-class marlin fishing, deep-sea sport fishing, kayaking, snorkeling expeditions, SNUBA, Hawaiian outrigger canoe tours, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and ocean rafting adventures are also available in Keauhou Bay. You’ll find little reason to deal with the hustle and bustle and traffic of downtown to get on the water. For those activities you won’t even need a car. And if you're not a water enthusiast; there is The Kona Country Club, a Top 100 public golf course adjacent to the resort, tennis, pickleball, shopping, spas, luaus and dining. Of course, there are those volcanoes, rain forests, waterfalls and other sights nearby to take in as well. Realtors refer to this as location, location, location.
Condo Amenities
Our one bedroom unit is 1248 sq. ft. and can sleep up to six people thanks to our spacious master bedroom and our queen-size Murphy bed and queen-size sleeper-sofa. The two bathrooms have been beautifully remodeled. The Master Bedroom has a regular door for privacy and also a shoji screen door for keeping track of the kids. Other family-oriented amenities include a Pack'n Play and a high-chair for the wee ones. There is plenty of space for your belongings. The condo is well stocked with swimming flotation noodles, boogie boards, beach towels and board games. (The availability of water toys varies as guests break or lose them and don't report it to us.)
As a full-size, washer and dryer are in the unit, there’s no need to over-pack your suitcases. The kitchen features beautiful koa wood cabinetry and overlooks the living room and the lanai, so you can join in on the conversations and even have great water views while working in the kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked with the pots, pans, utensils and serving sets. When you’re not enjoying the outside, you can enjoy several indoor amenities like cable TV on our two flat-screen HDTVs, DVD/VHS player, Bluetooth-compatible iHome entertainment system. So bring your Bluetooth devices. Stream content via our high-speed internet connection or just kick back on the lanai. The lanai features killer views, a wet-bar and mini-fridge, maybe even read a book! Most meals are taken on the lanai but the kitchen also has a breakfast nook with seating for up to six.
Resort Safety /Amenities
Kanaloa at Kona is a gated resort, with a security checkpoint at the entrance and roving security patrols. The resort has three pools (one adult-only pool), two tennis courts and the Kona Country Club borders one side of the property. Right across the road from our condo sits the main pool and the office for the resort. Kanaloa at Kona has beautifully landscaped and well-maintained grounds. “Tropical” and “Lush” are the words that come to mind. Lots of flowering trees and shrubs surround you throughout the grounds. There are also lots of BBQ grills scattered around the property, which are taken care of by the resort’s maintenance crews. You can join the other golfers on one of the Top 100 public golf courses- the Kona Country Club. The ocean-side pool is a wonderful place to relax and take in those beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. If you chose to never leave the Kanaloa grounds you would still be able to enjoy a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing environment.
Convenient Shopping
Our unit is less than a five minute drive (walking distance for those fit folks) to Keauhou Shopping Center where you will find a drug store, grocery store, ATM, multiplex cinema, book store, post office, clothing boutiques, several restaurants (including a good Pizza joint), a sports bar and a small shave ice store where you can experience a delicious, local Hawaiian treat. There is also a bus stop for the Trolley that will take you to the nearby beaches or to Historic Kailua Village along Ali'i Drive for more shopping and dining. This eliminates the cost and hassle of downtown parking
The Historic Kailua Village shopping district is usually a 10-15 minute drive (along the ocean) from our front door and features many fine restaurants, boutiques and even many of the stores you are familiar with on the mainland. You will find a long list of our favorite recommendations in the condo welcome book. One of our downtown favorites for lunch is the historic, waterside, Kona Inn Restaurant (established in 1928) which is located in the middle of the shopping district and right on the ocean.
Big Island Activities
There are many other amazing activities to explore on the Big Island: Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea summit observatory for world- renowned star gazing, the famous Kona Coffee plantations and coffee houses, lots of public beaches (great free snorkeling), including black lava, white sand and even a green sand beach, and the rain forests of Hilo with their multiple, breathtaking waterfalls.
Keauhou Area
Keauhou Bay area is blessed with sunny weather and perfect waters. These idyllic conditions made it a favorite hideaway of Hawaiian royalty, and today the area boasts diligently restored heiau (temples), ancient fishponds and a wealth of historical sites. Interpretive centers weave together the area’s present and past, making a stay in Keauhou as enriching as it is relaxing. Although, we will understand if you find it difficult to venture out after spending a few hours relaxing on our beautiful lanai with its breathtaking views of the He’eia and Keauhou Bays and the Pacific Ocean. At night, the Keauhou Bay area attracts manta rays that feed on microscopic plankton near the shore. You can spot these manta rays in the shallow waters off the Outrigger Resort & Spa at the mouth of Keauhou Bay, which shoots spotlights out into the plankton-filled waters nightly. But to really see manta rays up close and personal, go on a manta ray night dive or snorkel trip. You can also sometimes see honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) in the shallow tide pools. It’s easy to see why Hawaiian royalty adored this area. The waters are clean and crystal clear.

About the host
Hosted by Tom Condek

Patty and I welcome you to our Amazing Kona Kondo. We have vacationed in Hawaii for over 10 years and have never found another condo as beautiful as this one. We also grew frustrated when we found the condos we had rented were in poor repair. We found confusing and irritating light switches, stereo and TV equipment. Even the TV guide was wrong. We also found worn utensils, light bulbs burned out, broken toasters, etc. Vacations are always too short and who needs the aggravation. We will do everything possible to prevent these types of disappointments even though we cannot predict machine failures. We want your stay to be as pleasant as possible. We fell in love with the spaciousness, waterfront views and lush resort grounds of Kanaloa at Kona. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we do. Kanaloa at Kona is a gated community with roving security patrols. For any problems or help you will be able to reach our on-island manager: Tom Kondek, who has been with us for many years and does a great job ensuring our guests' needs are met.
Why they chose this property
Location, location, location! Close to everything but removed from the noise, traffic and hustle & bustle of downtown. If you love water-based activities you can walk (less than half a mile) to the docks of the numerous charter companies in Keauhou Bay. The Four-Star Kanaloa at Kona Resort, is very secure, quiet and relaxing. The grounds are lush with tropical plantings. Convenient shopping at the Keauhou Shopping Center is a 5 minute car drive away. The condo features spectacular views of He'eia bay, Keauhou Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Has been renovated and redecorated. Condo 3501 can sleep 6 people due to the large master bedroom, a queen-size Murphy bed and a queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room. After spending all day on the water, visiting volcanoes, hiking through tropical rain forests and waterfalls, you will appreciate the peaceful, quiet environment of the Kanaloa at Kona Resort. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare your own meals and features beautiful Koa wood cabinetry. Or you can dine at the restaurants in the nearby Keauhou Shopping Center (Sam Choy's restaurant has spectacular 180 degree views), or drive downtown (10-15 min. drive) for more dining options. Across Keauhou Bay you can find fine dining and spa services too. Everything is so close! The resort has 3 swimming pools (one is adult-only) another overlooks the ocean with a great Jacuzzi hot tub and sunset views, the third is right across the street from the condo. There are two lighted tennis courts, pickleball courts and a Top 100 public golf course along the northerly boundary of the property.
