We had an amazing stay, very sweet that the hosts had left a basket of Madeira produce for us. The house itself is a good size lots of space indoors, outdoors and has an amazing view. The games room and pool provided great entertainment. Couple of amenities within walking distance (small supermarket, pizza restaurant, bars) otherwise need to drive to a bigger town, but great location for exploring the island with a car. Hosts were so helpful with suggestions of places to eat and activities on the island.

Beautiful view and beautiful home.

Thank you for your review. The views "wow" all our Guests, and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Madeira does take a little bit of getting used to. Most people live at least 450 feet above sea level because of the steep cliffs around the island. But after a couple of days one does become accustomed to the roads. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. regards Bill
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful home on an amazing island. The views from the property are stunning and it is exceptionally well equipped. The pool is a really good temperature and the basement has a great games room. The communication from the owners was fantastic and they were extremely attentive. We definitely hope to be back!

A villa that offers everything in peaceful surroundings.
Games room was a massive hit, especially in changeable weather.
Phenomenal view of Arco da Calheta, especially at night from the heated pool.
Villa host (Tanja) and taxi driver (Antonio) absolutely brilliant, and always on-hand to help out.

And to whomever reads this : These are very recommendable guests - leaving everything super clean and tidy - communicative and super friendly XXX
Far exceeded expectations. Owners are kind and attentive. Location is on a hill side looking down to the sea which is beautiful day and night. Car is essential if you're staying here but this would be the same anywhere on the island to get the best of this wonderful place.

We had a lovely stay and Andy the owner was super responsive and helpful with everything! Very roomy for all. We were a group of 6 so we did have 2 cars which was a bit tricky in the car park but not a big deal with an automatic car. Pool was warm and we enjoyed the views very much. We cooked in after long days exploring and found everything we needed. My only regret as first time visitors is not staying closer to Funchal because the tunnels and the gas price!

Hi Susan,
Was great to host you the perfect guests, we also really liked the Whats App group, great idea.
Yes EU petrol prices are no fun at the moment, especially compared to the US, you must think they are crazy prices.
Hope to see you again sometime.

We recently stayed at this delightful rental, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The host was incredibly accommodating (as we had one extra person joining last minute), going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. The house itself was great, well-appointed, and filled with thoughtful touches. From the welcoming drinks to the detailed local recommendations, every aspect of our stay was carefully considered. Communication with Tanja was prompt and friendly, and any requests we had were handled with efficiency. This rental is a gem!
What a wonderful trip. Homeowners were very responsive and helpful. Great location as the villa is steps away from both a main hiking region and resort/marina area. We were lucky to have seen most of the island and I would agree that this house is in one of the best locations on the island. Morning views were spectacular and we couldn’t ask for better weather. We were two families with two teenagers and a child and found something for everyone to do and enjoy. The grocery store close by was also quite helpful. We enjoyed our dinners out (several recommended by homeowners) but also enjoy cooking our own meals so the nearby grocery store was a hit. Thanks for a memorable trip!!

We had a terrific holiday. We loved the villa and would happily rent it again in the future to explore more of the island. It’s perfectly equipped, clean, spacious and in a great location - commanding a wonderful view over the sea and surrounding town.
It was hard to drag the girls away from the pool for us to explore the island and we all looked forward to a swim after slogging up and down mountains. Bill has taken time and effort to produce some very helpful tips about the locality and comprehensive advice about travelling to the villa and using its facilities - even mentioning the harmless millipedes! And he has helpfully collected the villa’s equipment instructions in one place.
We all greatly enjoyed our memorable stay in this incredible property!

Superb villa with breath taking views
This villa is great for a family holiday. A beautiful, quite location, yet close enough to drive to all the tourist attractions. It is exceptionally clean and comfortable and very spacious for us and our 2 boys aged 11 and 13. The pool area and the balconies make you feel like a Hollywood 'A' lister !!! Great photo opportunities !! The owner, Bill, is very helpful and includes lots of info about the villa and Madeira when booking.
The local restaurant, Naye Pizza, does great food and the pizzas are out of this world. There is also a small supermarket just down the road. Walking up the road to the little café for coffee and ice creams will keep you fit - the roads are steep in Madeira !!
You will not regret booking this villa for your next holiday.

Excellent house with spectacular views!
The house is very spacious and tastefully decorated.
We loved the pool and the terrasses and the space in the living room/kitchen area.
It' a 10 minute drive to the coast with some restaurants and a bigger supermarket but the next little supermarket is only 2 minutes away.
You need a car and it should have a strong engine as hills are really steep.
The view is just great, there's not only the atlantic ocean but also the entire valley to your feet. The only thing which was not so nice was that there are a lot of dogs aound who barked quasi the entire night but that's how it is in most southern Europe countries.
The communication with Bill was great and he has provided lot's of very good informarion.
We can absolutely recommend the house and would definitely come again!

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. My wife and I use a 1.5 litre Renault Clio when we visit, which handles the hills very well.

It’s very hard to narrow down this amazing experience!! Tanja is AMAZING!! The communication is spot on!!ANY questions you have about anything- she is there to help and very quick to respond .
Madeira is very hilly and with a manual car- you have to be on your game. The villa was everything EVERYTHING and more!! The beds are comfortable- kitchen was fully stocked with all kinds of kitchen goodies! The views are breathtaking and the furniture was incredibly comfortable! We definitely will be back soon!
Only issues were- not sure where to take the trash and the master bedroom AC wasn’t working- but- she was prompt to get workers booked to fix it- but the day they promised to be there - there was a PortugaFutbol game - and he called off sick. She was so apologetic- but the temp was perfect for no AC and it was still comfortable ❤️
I’d give this place a 10++++ star if I could. ❤️❤️
We will be back!

The trash used to be in the street but is moved around the corner and we’ll use your remark to make it easier to find in the information ;) Thank you so much for everything! First class accommodation
Prior to our visit we received everything we needed to know from the owner and also a contact in case of any problems. Instructions and directions were all good.
The property is spacious with fantastic views overlooking the surrounding settlement and ocean. There are two wide balconies with plenty of seating.
The house is very well equipped with everything you need . All furnishings and equipment are of a good quality. There is ample internal space to spread out.
The tv worked fine but no DVD’s are provided.
The games room is a good feature but there is some damage to the football table and the pool table really needs to be levelled in order to make it playable.
The outdoor pool is great if you are competent swimmers, but be aware there is no shallow end if you have children or are non swimmers yourself.
There is ample car parking, but getting in and out may not be easy if you have more than one car.
The above were only minor niggles and overall this is still a fantastic house to spend a holiday in and certainly one of the best we have used.
There is small local supermarket which is very well stocked.

Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. The Balconies are hugely popular and when in residence, we spend most of our time there, except when it is too hot. Thank you for bringing the Pool Table to our attention. As you have noticed, it is a "professional quality" table with heavy slates underneath the surface. 6 grown men would struggle to lift it, so I suspect previous Guests has tried to move it, and disrupted the balance. We will re-level. The luxury of a secure gated entrance does require accurate parking. But after the first day, one gets the knack. The level parking is a bonus on this very hilly island, and we park two cars regularly without trouble.
We look forward to seeing you again in the future. regards Bill
It was an absolute pleasure for us to stay at Villa Acacia for 9 nights. To begin with, Tanja is a terrific host. Her communication with us prior to our arrival was top notch. She provided so much helpful information which really assisted us in preparing for our first visit to Madeira. The villa itself is a large, modern accommodation, both spacious and bright. For those who like to cook, it has a very well equipped kitchen. There is a refreshing pool directly off the bedrooms. We used this frequently during our stay since Madeira experienced some of the hottest temperatures on record for June while we were there. There is a good-sized gated parking area. The villa is situated in a quiet neighbourhood with some wonderful views. Despite a few hot days, we found many things to see and explore. Some of these included the levada walks to both the Risco waterfall and the 25 Fontes, the sea cliffs at Porto Prego, the Monte Palace Tropical gardens, the cable car ride at Achadas da Cruz, the cable car ride up to Monte from the base station in Funchal, visiting the large market in Funchal, seeing the views from Pico do Areeiro, the 3rd highest peak on the island, seeing the traditional homes in Santana, visiting the Fanal forest, taking the toboggan ride at Monte, and visiting the Valley of the Nuns. We highly recommend a visit to this beautiful island. And while you're there, do yourself a favour and stay at Villa Acacia. You won't be disappointed!

And to everybody reading this: Very lovely, appreciative and communicative guests and highly recommended! Beautiful villa
Villa was absolutely amazing, completely as described. Pictures don't really do it any justice.
I was actually a bit ill for the first few days of our 2 week holiday so thank god I had a lovely couch to chill out on and plenty of tv channels to watch so that was a good send.
We used the pool table a few times and that was fun.
The heated pool we used daily. It was still a bit cold, but then it's November and to be honest once you made the final diveand actually got in it was fab.
Views from the villa are just incredible and something we never got tired of looking at.
We didn't hire a car, we just used a taxi company who were brilliant. We used the little shop which was about 10 mins walk away, but it only sold a few items we used and sold out of things like milk and port. It did seem to take days for them to restock. We used pingo doce a few times in the end which was a much bigger and I'll be honest, much more friendly shop. It took about an hour and a half to walk to but then we caught a taxi back. It was a lovely walk down although not many pavements about but it added to the fun.
There are, as people have mentioned, quite a few hills around. If you're not really good with walking uphill a lot then I would hire a car.
We did go to funchal which is definately worth a visit. It is a lot busier because it's a city but there is plenty to do there.
We had a brilliant holiday and Bill the owner was very lovely to deal with and responded to all our enquires, quickly. The same can be said with rose, who manages the property.
We have no hesitation in booking this beautiful villa again.

Hi Alana, thank you for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your third visit to the Villa.
Indeed some Guests don't hire a car at all, if they just want to relax around the Villa. For those who wish to explore the island for the first time, a car will get you to almost any corner of the island with one and a half hours. This year will be our fourth return visit and we still find something new to explore each time.
We look forward to seeing you again

The perfect home away from home for a family stay in Madeira with the most incredible views.
Tanja and Andy are the best hosts we could have asked for during our 1 month stay in Madeira. My family of 4 stayed at the this amazing home and we absolutely love it. We also had 2 and then 3 additional friends come and join us for a short period of time during our stay. The house handled everyone so well. Every one of us had a comfortable bed and there was plenty of restrooms and shower in every floor. The game room was amazing, we loved playing in the foosball table, the pool table and the ping pong table. My husband enjoyed all the gym exercise equipment. We all had a blast playing with the board games as well. The bedrooms were all spacious and had amazing closet space for everyone. We never ran our of clean towels, which was so amazing! We also had a washer and a DRYER!! The headed pool was a hit with all the kids in the house, specially because they got to swim in the pool even on chilly days. The house had plenty of outdoor areas to sit and enjoy the views. The kitchen was big and super organized with absolutely everything you would need and plenty of everything. There are two access points to the house, which made bringing groceries an easy task. The main part of the house has the a beautiful open floorpan with the kitchen, dinning and living room. The entire length of that floor has sliding glass doors which not only provide a great breeze, but they give you the most amazing views of the that side of the island and the town of Arco da Calheta. The outdoor deck was one of our favorite spots to sit and enjoy watching the paraglider taking off from the mountain across the way and also seeing the clouds come in and out, there was some days we woke up in the clouds and that was incredible. We rented a car and we loved having the parking in the property and having an easy access to all the attractions to the island. Tanja and Andy were are the most incredible hosts, we visited during the holiday season and I mentioned we would be celebrating my son's birthday during our stay. Well, they surprised us with a fully decorated home for the holiday, a beautiful Christmas Tree and plenty of wrapped GIFTS for EVERYONE! I was so touched when Tanja showed me she had a Birthday cake & candles and a birthday card ready for my son's birthday in the freezer-that meant a lot to me. I was so touched that a host will do this for us & after our say, she also took care of shipping my shopping back home for me! & the house was spotless. They are simply the best!

About the host
Hosted by Tanja Holzhaus
Hello, We are Andy and Tanja and we live in the Netherlands. Andy is originally from England and I was born and raised in Amsterdam. We've been married for over 20 years and we love to travel whenever we can. We have our own company in IT and Photography which allows us to work from different locations. When we came to Madeira for the first time we just loved it immediately. After a few more visits we decided to look for a second house here and after more then 4 years we finally found 'the one' .
Madeira is so beautiful, versatile, safe and friendly. It has a vast history, culture, beautiful nature, unique sea water-swimming pools, a network of Levadas and mountain trails. You can go to the beach and catch some sun and then later set of in the ancient Lauris Lava (laurel tree Unesco protected forrest) and find yourself amidst the clouds. The weather is very nice throughout the year (give or take some windy or stormy days sometimes) and there are whales and dolphins swimming near by the coast. (there are several Sea-life watching trips with guaranteed sightings) There are many different and affordable restaurants with great local dishes and loads of little (Poncha = local alcoholic specialty) Poncha and traditional bars. For real clubbing and nightlife Funchal is the place to go. Most people speak (some) English so it's easy getting around without speaking Portugese, although a few words are always highly appreciated :)
Why they chose this property
Although we love Funchal and the surrounding area, and also many other different places around the island, Arco de Calheta has overall the best weather, more direct acces to the mountains and sea-life and a small (handmade) beach surrounded by a cute harbour and nice restaurants and 5* hotels. It is less busy and very central to go anywhere on the island.
This property was shown to us because we were in the area looking at another house. And while it was bigger then what we searched for, the moment we stepped upon the balcony we were sold! The view is all we ever wanted, the pool is an unexpected plus and the spacious house with it's modern and local features truly our style. Luckily it turned out that it was already a Holiday let with impressive reviews and that the property managers would keep running it for us as they did. They are a couple from England and Madeira and such wonderful service-minded and friendly people, that we dared to make the leap and here we are.
Although perfect at is we are looking at some future improvements and extra's, without taking away anything that made people love it so much so we truly hope we can make people love their stay their as much as we love to be there :)
What makes this property unique
Here I'm supposed to say what our UNIQUE benefits are and I'm not sure what 'unique' would be as not much is unique nowadays but I can say what WE love about the house; The view (oh had I already mentioned that?) the 10 x 3.5 infinity pool, the sunrise over the mountain on the left - sun all day - and then the sunset on the right into the ocean. The spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, the balconies top and poolside overlooking the ocean. (Even from the top floor you have constant view around thanks to the glass walls and windows) The side terrace with garden and BBQ.. The fact there is room for a full size game room and that everything is well kept and modern in style .I love to cook, so a fully equipped kitchen is a must and I love the granite cooking island. I guess maybe in short it's better to ask what I don't like :) - The climb back up on foot with groceries - Taking the wrong road up (read OUR directions not Google maps!) in the car (Holland is as flat as a pancake so I have to get used to some of these steep hills- maybe their no bother to you) but other then that we just totally love the place.
