The Ledges Resort and Marina, Loon Cottage

The Loon Cottage is a beautiful loft style one bedroom cottage with a stone fireplace overlooking the river. It has a queen size bed upstairs. Downstairs there is a queen size pull out sofa with a memory foam mattress. It has a full kitchen with a refrigerator/freezer, farmhouse apron sink, range, dishwasher, coffee maker, tea kettle, and microwave. There is a 39" HDTV with Directv satellite television.
On the outdoor deck there is a grill and dining table with chairs to enjoy summer grilling. There is a firepit with Adirondack chairs for enjoying smores with the family.
Luxury shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are provided by Beekman 1802. The beds are made with fresh linens. Bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths are also provided.
Everything is prepped and ready to make your vacation relaxing and comfortable. Just bring yourself!
- Welcome to The Ledges Resort & Marina! We are located directly on the St. Lawrence River across from Boldt Castle. We have views of the castle, Sunken Rock Lighthouse, and the main shipping channel. We have decks, docks, hammocks, and gazebos across our six-acre property. There are so many great places to relax, read a book, walk, or go fishing. We have a beautifulnewly renovated in-ground pool. There are outdoor fire-pits where you can warm up under the stars. We even provide the firewood! There are plenty of open lawn areas to play catch, lawn games, or just take a walk.
The Ledges offers a peaceful getaway with six acres of landscaped grounds along the water. While the grounds provide privacy and lots of space, we are not in a remote location. It’s a quick and easy walk downtown Alexandria Bay. We are close to all of the attractions. At the Ledges you have the best of both worlds, relaxation and convenience!

* IMPORTANT NOTE: Dogs are allowed. There is a $35 PER NIGHT/PER PET fee. Adding pets to your reservation through VRBO does not add the pet fee automatically. The pet fee will be billed separately from the original reservation. Pets must be leashed at all times, cleaned up after, and kept off furniture.

Boat dockage is available with a reservation for $2 per foot/per night. PWC dockage is $20 per night. We also have boat rentals and cruises available on site.

We traveled up from Maryland to celebrate our daughters wedding at Boldt Castle (which you can see from the property) and were awe struck by the location and coziness of this cottage. Loon Cottage is beautiful! Modern, clean with excellent views. There are plenty of windows that allow breezes to flow and a gas fireplace if the temperature dips. It was nice having a kitchen, fully equipped with everything. The bathroom is large with an amazing shower. The Ledges Resort property is scenic and meticulously maintained. I really enjoyed my four night stay.

A slice of heaven

If you are looking to unwind and just relax this is the place. Peaceful yet not boring. You can walk to A Bay easily. Best part is sitting outside with a glass of whatever and watch the world go by, esp. the ships which are awesome and majestic. This was our 3rd stay here and it never disappoints. We enjoyed everything about our stay at the Loon Cottage. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. Everyone working there was very friendly. The view was awesome (great for watching ships and sunsets). We used the outdoor fire pit every night, and appreciated that they always replenished our wood supply. The property is beautiful- there’s a ton of space to walk, and the landscaping is beautiful. We will definitely be back!

Wife and I needed a break. Work, Covid, crowds. Read about Alexandria Bay an saw this on VRBO. Glad we did. Spent a pleasant get away in the Loon cottage. Totally relaxing. Cooked a few meals and ate on deck watching the boats go by and sun set. Built a nice roaring fire by the private fire pit. Place is worth staying at. Clean, friendly folks and quiet. About the host

The Ledges Resort & Marina started with my grandparents Nicholas J Schaefer and his wife Amy. They purchased the property in 1961 and made it their home. In 1963 they built a motel and named it The Ledges. They also opened a German restaurant on the property named The Old World Inn. They closed the restaurant 1982, but continued with the motel. In later years the motel was managed by my parents, Jerome and Deborah Schaefer. They expanded into the marina and cottage rental business. In 2013 after 50 years in business we made a decision as a family to close the business and tear down the motel.

In 2014 my wife and I purchased the property from my parents. We remodeled the old buildings and built brand new cottages from the ground up. We re-opened to guests in the spring of 2015. I was named after my grandfather, Nicholas, and it just so happens that my wife’s name is Amy. So, once again Nick & Amy are your hosts at the Ledges!
