About this property

Exclusive 8-Bedroom Historic Estate with Private Infinity Pool and Ocean Views

Set within 28 acres of tropical grounds, The Old Fort Estate brings together two beautifully restored private residences, eight bedrooms, extensive living spaces and exclusive use of the estate’s infinity pool.

The Old Fort forms the historic heart of the property. Originally part of an 18th-century sugar estate, its buildings were carefully reconstructed using stone and timber from the original structures. Designed in the timeless style of a French-Mediterranean manor, it offers six bedrooms across five individually styled suites, generous entertaining areas and sweeping views across Bequia and the Grenadine islands.

At its centre is a large banquet-style kitchen and an atmospheric dining area that becomes especially enchanting in the evenings. A comfortable lounge with a fireplace, indoor bar, large-screen television and Sonos sound system provides a welcoming place for guests to gather.

The Sugar House is a distinctive contemporary villa built within the original circular stone walls of an 18th-century sugar mill. It offers two spacious en-suite bedrooms with king-size four-poster beds, sitting areas, handcrafted hardwood vanities and generous bathrooms. One suite features a completely private open-air pebble shower beneath the Caribbean sky.

Its fully equipped mahogany kitchen opens into a circular living and dining area beneath a dramatic high-arched timber ceiling. Large windows and garden doors allow cooling trade winds to flow naturally through the villa.

Together, the two residences comfortably accommodate up to 16 guests, providing generous communal spaces while still allowing couples, families and friends to enjoy their own private retreats.

Guests have exclusive use of the estate’s infinity pool and surrounding pool area throughout their stay. Set apart from the residences in a peaceful garden setting, the pool includes a shallow children’s section, waterfall, natural pebble grotto, secluded plunge area and two shaded gazebos. Multiple terraces, balconies and outdoor sitting areas offer panoramic views across the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Grenadine islands.

The surrounding estate is filled with palms, tropical flowers, fruit trees and local birdlife. Scenic nature trails wind through the grounds towards the rugged Atlantic coastline and the breathtaking, unspoiled beaches of Ravine Bay and Hope Bay.

The Old Fort Estate is ideal for family holidays, gatherings of friends, milestone celebrations, weddings and retreats. Events and outside visitors must be disclosed and approved in advance, and additional charges or conditions may apply.

High-speed fibre-optic internet is available throughout both residences. Housekeeping is provided several times each week, while private chefs, grocery pre-stocking, vehicle rental, taxis, additional staff and private powerboat excursions can be arranged.

Additional accommodation may be available at an extra nightly rate, subject to availability. Please enquire before booking.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in the Grenadines, primarily in the small hilltop community of Mount Pleasant on Bequia. As a child, I watched my parents and their dedicated team restore the ruins of The Old Fort, gradually transforming the historic property into the estate guests experience today.

Their work gave me a deep appreciation for its history, architecture and importance to our family.

Growing up on a small island presented unusual educational challenges. I initially studied through an American correspondence programme before travelling by ferry to neighbouring St. Vincent to complete my A-levels.

At 18, I moved to Europe and began a hospitality apprenticeship at the Kempinski Hotel Four Seasons in Munich. I later worked in food and beverage at the Hilton Amsterdam before moving to London, where I completed a degree in International Marketing and Hospitality Management at London Metropolitan University.

I returned to the Grenadines and became Director of The Old Fort in 2005. Today, I divide my time between Bequia and London, where I spend part of the year with my young daughter.

My international hospitality experience, lifelong connection to Bequia and knowledge of the Grenadines allow me to help guests enjoy much more than the estate alone. Whether arranging a private chef, boat excursion, island transport or recommending a favourite beach or restaurant, I enjoy helping each group make the most of its stay.

Over the years, I have personally renovated much of The Old Fort and built The Sugar House within the derelict stone walls surrounding the small wooden cottage where I grew up. Together, the residences reflect my family’s decades-long commitment to preserving the estate’s history and character while creating a distinctive place for guests to experience Bequia.

The Old Fort Estate represents my family’s journey, generations of restoration and our commitment to memorable stays.

Why they chose this property

Mount Pleasant is one of Bequia’s most peaceful and scenic areas. Its elevated position brings cooling trade winds and extraordinary panoramic views across both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, while Port Elizabeth, Princess Margaret Beach, Lower Bay and many of the island’s attractions remain only a short drive away.

The Old Fort Estate extends across approximately 28 acres of tropical hillsides, gardens and historic grounds towards the Atlantic coastline. Palms, fruit trees, flowering plants and scenic walking trails surround the two residences, creating an exceptional sense of space, privacy and connection with nature.

My parents first arrived on Bequia on Christmas Eve 1978 and spent decades restoring and caring for the property. Over the years, our family developed deep local knowledge and long-standing relationships throughout the island, allowing us to help guests experience Bequia in a more personal and authentic way.

The estate offers a rare combination of historic architecture, extensive private grounds, panoramic views and modern comfort. Its layout is especially well suited to larger families and groups, with generous communal areas for spending time together and separate bedrooms, terraces, gardens and quiet spaces when guests want privacy.

Bequia itself remains one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive and unspoilt islands. It combines beautiful beaches, excellent sailing and boating, independent restaurants, a welcoming community and a relaxed atmosphere that has largely escaped mass tourism.

What makes the setting particularly special is the balance it offers: complete privacy, tranquillity and a feeling of being immersed in nature, while still remaining within easy reach of the beaches, harbour, restaurants and experiences that make Bequia so memorable.

What makes this property unique

The Old Fort Estate combines history, architecture, natural beauty and exceptional privacy in a setting unlike a conventional Caribbean villa.
Two distinctive residences, The Old Fort and The Sugar House, are set across 28 acres of tropical grounds. The spacious layout allows families and groups to gather while still enjoying private bedrooms, terraces, balconies and peaceful garden areas.

The Old Fort preserves the estate’s historic character through original stonework, exposed beams, hardwood floors, four-poster beds and handcrafted pebble bathrooms. The Sugar House combines the circular stone walls of an 18th-century sugar mill with a dramatic timber ceiling, open-plan living and modern comfort.

Guests reserving the combined estate enjoy exclusive use of both residences, all eight bedrooms, gardens, terraces and the estate’s infinity pool and surrounding pool area. Set apart in a peaceful garden setting, the pool includes a shallow children’s section, waterfall, pebble grotto and two shaded gazebos, offering a private place to swim and relax.

Tropical gardens filled with palms, fruit trees, flowers and birdlife create a strong sense of peace and connection with nature. Panoramic views extend across the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Grenadine islands, while scenic trails lead towards the coastline and the unspoiled beaches of Ravine Bay and Hope Bay.
Archaeological discoveries within the grounds have uncovered further sections of the original estate, adding another layer to its history.

The property suits family holidays, gatherings of friends, weddings, celebrations and retreats. Private chefs, staff, transport, grocery pre-stocking and boat excursions can be arranged.

Most importantly, a stay offers an authentic connection to Bequia, its history, landscape, community and relaxed island culture.
