Stylish Scottish, book-filled getaway with beautiful walks
With the old world country charm of a log burning stove, and a huge four poster bed, Barns Library is in a beautiful courtyard, with it's own garden and a step away from fabulous walks in every direction. Barns Library has a huge library of interesting books covering history, fiction, art, travel and much more. The four poster bed is particularly sumptuous and unwinding in a deep bubble bath has to be the best way to relax after a long bracing walk through the beautiful countryside.

The only downside was the slow response to questions
The Library was an amazing place to stay over Christmas and take the overflow of guests. They loved it. So clean and homely. Christmas tree a cool touch, along with mince pies.
Wi-Fi was brilliant
Surroundings, walks and views second to none
Lovely and thankyou

short winter break
just returned from a short break at Barns Library on the Neithpath/Bans estate. The cottage had everything we needed and more, a lovely touch of food items to get us started. The cottage was cozy, comfortable and very clean. the booking procedure and subsequent correspondence from the Neidpath Estate office was excellent. Just 10 mins drive out of Peebles was Ideal and Had the weather been different it would have been a nice but somewhat longer walk(50 mins). We will definitely be returning in the future to either the Library or try out one of the other properties on the estate.

Beautiful place to stay
Having previously stayed in Barns Tower we already knew the high level of comfort offered by the team but were still surprised by how luxurious yet homely Barns Library felt. Lovely walks, drives, good facilities in Peebles town (coffee shops, bakeries, supermarkets etc) we had a ball and hope to get back as soon as possible

A delightful weekend in the country
We stayed in The Barns Library for 5 nights. Everything about the accommodation and location is superb. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked again, but this time to stay in The Tower.
Whether you want a nice romantic time with a four poster bed and a wood burner, and/or walks in the woods, this place is perfect. We cannot recommend it highly enough

Stunning property
Stunning property, decorated beautifully, well equipped and thoughtfully designed. Spotlessly clean, couldn’t have been better for our dog with the charming arboretum literally on our doorstep. We immediately relaxed, enjoying the peaceful and spectacular location, perhaps remote for some but we were well prepared and enjoyed our walks into Peebles and the surrounding area. Will definitely book again. Thank you.

A Short Stay at Barns Library
Barns Library is an excellent choice for a relaxing stay, in beautiful surroundings. The cottage forms part of a former agricultural estate courtyard and has been imaginatively converted, It was warm and cosy even during a January snowstorm. It was a joy to sit in front of the wood burner stove with a plentiful supply of logs and a great choice of DVDs and books from the bookshelves. The galley kitchen is well appointed with everything one needs. The team at Niedpath were very helpful and gave clear instructions as to how to get to the Library by car. I wish our stay could have been longer.

Great location, beautifully designed and furnished accommodation, shame about the building work
The Barns Library has been beautifully designed and furnished and is in a perfect location to explore the Tweed Valley. It's reasonably well equipped and is basically clean but would benefit from deep spring clean to get rid of all of the cobwebs and maintain a high standard. Unfortunately for us there was building work taking place throughout our stay. The Barns Library and the courtyard is also a key working part of the Neidpath Estate and so we were woken up by 7:30am, (8:20am on bank holiday Monday) either by the building contractors or people working on the estate (strimmers etc). Not quite the peaceful holiday, catching up on our sleep that we had hoped for. In summary, great location but should be better for the price.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful setting
Cosy, beautifully furnished cottage with real character. Lovely / dining area and peaceful estate and surroundings in general.
Very comfortable bedrooms.
We had some issues with hot water which apparently we should have been informed of.
We have a few comments too, about kitchen items and the parking situation in relation to people who live and work on the estate. I will send a separate email to the admin office.

3-nights stay
Very comfortable and spotless property, with many original features and nice little touches, like some complementary materials left to prepare your first breakfast. Great shower and "easy to keep going" fireplace. Good layout for a family of four. Plenty of books to choose from to keep you entertained if the weather gets you grounded. Parking right at your front door in the courtyard makes offloading and loading super easy even on a rainy day. Walled garden is only a short stroll away from your back door to safely let your dogs off lead on a ball chase. Quiet location, yet still very close to Peebles.

Barns Library
We had a second fabulous stay at Barns Library.
There are just two things I would highlight. The lighting does really need to be checked as the wall light over the bookshelf is still not working and in such a dark environment it is essential and also atmospheric.
The duvet in the master bedroom should have been laundered some time ago. It is not a pleasure to strip a bed and note that one has been sleeping under a duvet that cleanliness is not of the highest standard.

A Hidden Gem in the Scottish Countryside
Staying at Barns Library during our friends’ wedding weekend at Neidpath Castle was an absolute treat. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the peaceful surroundings, the charm of the building, and the sense that we were staying somewhere truly special.
The space itself was full of character. With walls lined with old books, beautiful wooden details, and unique vintage furnishings, it felt like a cozy literary hideaway. Every corner held a little charm, and we found ourselves completely relaxed in its quiet, welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, the amenities were incredibly comfortable and up to date. The bed was plush, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the bathroom was clean and modern. It was the perfect mix of old and new.
Waking up to the views of the countryside each morning and enjoying coffee outside surrounded by nature was a highlight. Barns Library is only a short, scenic drive to Neidpath Castle, which made it ideal for joining in all the wedding festivities while also having a peaceful place to unwind at the end of the day.
This isn’t just a place to sleep, it’s an experience. We feel so lucky to have stayed here and will absolutely treasure the memories made in such a unique and beautiful place.

About the host
Hosted by Lulu Benson
Barns Library, forms part of an 18th stable block, at the heart of the Barns Estate, which has been in the owner's family for a few generations. The current generation has sought to rescue the beautiful but dilapidated buildings by giving them a new lease of life as comfortable and elegant places to stay.
Why they chose this property
The building wasn't purchased, but was part of the responsibility taken on by the current owners when they took over the surrounding farm.
What makes this property unique
Barns Library, is full of wonderful books to browse through during your stay, including books on scottish history, travel books, and novels. It is also on one level, so easy to navigate for those who don't enjoy stairs, with a door straight into the private garden.
