Mayflower is one of two beautifully presented shepherd’s huts at Martindale Farm, found within open countryside close to the thriving market town of Pocklington on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, and close to the historic city of York. With lovely views and surrounded by nature, this holiday home is just perfect for two looking for a romantic get away from it all holiday.

As is traditional with shepherd’s huts, the living space is open-plan and is flooded with natural light from the French doors. The double bed is slightly raised allowing great views out of the window and allows you to relax and unwind whilst watching the wall mounted Smart TV. The kitchen sits to one side and provides a gas hob and a microwave. There is plenty of work top space to prepare dinner, and a roomy breakfast bar where you can enjoy dining together. An en-suite shower room with heated towel rail completes the accommodation. A gas wood burner provides a cosy feel throughout and will keep the chill away during the cooler winter months. A private seating area with fire pit sits to the front of Mayflower, and from here you can enjoy the wildlife this site offers from deer to red kites and the occasional heron who likes to feed at the pond.

The vibrant market town of Pocklington is a short drive away and offers a plethora of independent shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs. The iconic stately home of Castle Howard, home to Brideshead Revisited and more recently Bridgerton and Sledmere House, are close by, whilst Burnby Hall, home to the national collection of water lilies, is almost on the doorstep. This area is ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. There are many easy walks and cycleways including the popular Wolds Way, which leads through the rolling countryside where Hockney found his inspiration for his famous paintings. For culture lovers, a short drive from this Pocklington cottage brings you to the historic city of York, whilst further south you can visit the wonderful oceanic aquarium of The Deep in under an hour. A little further afield are the seaside towns of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. This Pocklington shepherd’s hut offers a quiet retreat and an ideal touring base.

We had a lovely 2 night stay.

We had a lovely 2 night stay. There is a great farm shop and cafe just 20 minutes away where we gained our supplies as well as a Tesco down the road in market Weighton for essentials. The hosts were super friendly and the welcom basket was generous. For usbjt was an anniversary stay and Sue was so sweet going above and beyond with a balloon, bubbly and even a card. The mayflower is beautifully kitted out and decorated I could literally live here (i am already thinking ahead 30years to retierment options lol). There is a hob and microwave to allow some cooking if wanted and an ample fridge for refreshments. Great high bed and comfy and thoughtful layout with storage for cases etc. Gas 'log burner' style heater to keep warm at night and a fire out for a cosy evening around the fire. Hot tub for two was lovely and is electric so allows for easy chilling. It was a quiet site despite a close road we didn't notice. We had a beautifully clear night and the stars were out of this world. The view from the hot tub is over countryside. The only thing i would change if being picky is to change the orientation as the head rests actually mean you would face the fence but the way we sat in it this didn't actually matter. Definitely recommend and would stay again ourselves. Thank-you for a great relaxing weekend.
