Built circa 1750, this former lead miner's cottage in picturesque Marrick in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is on the Coast-to-Coast path and mentioned in Wainwright's famous guidebook. It offers a truly inspirational rural retreat for walkers, artists, poets, dreamers and lovers of natural beauty. Curated by hosts Max and Martin Lever (international award-winning artist). This historic home's original 18th Century rustic features have been sympathetically enhanced with beautiful furnishings, bespoke original artwork and historical embellishments that echo the cottage’s mining heritage. The beautiful south-facing open-plan living and dining space is the perfect place for leisurely meals, chilling after a long walk, or curling up in front of the log burner with a good book. Or for something more dynamic, dive into the high-speed fibre-optic broadband, Smart TV and full Sky entertainment package. If you’re tempted to sample some of the wonderful local produce on offer, our fully equipped kitchen makes catering easy. Also located on the ground floor is the cosy bathroom with free-standing ornamental bath, hand-shower and a private view of your cottage garden. Climb the original 18th Century staircase and you’ll find the spectacular vaulted ceiling master bedroom where you can wake up to expansive views of Swaledale and the friendly sheep in the adjacent field from your luxurious King-sized bed. The second bedroom, complete with Queen-sized bed and skylight views towards Marrick Moor, offers the cosiest of comfortable night’s sleep. Outside is a walled front terrace, the perfect spot for an al fresco breakfast, hot chocolate or fizzy sundowners while you take in one of our spectacular sunsets. Or wrap up at night and marvel at the Milky Way, meteors and over 2000 stars often visible when skies are clear. In addition to your front terrace, you can relax in Overdale Cottage’s private enclosed cottage garden, overflowing with wildflowers and vibrant blossoms in summertime. Guest access - Private off-road parking for one vehicle, with ample on-road parking for a second vehicle. Other things to note - Located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there are so many great places to visit in the surrounding vicinity of Overdale Cottage, either on foot, by bike or a short drive away. Historic market town Richmond is just 7 miles away with its independent shops, farmers’ market and iconic architecture. And there are countless picturesque villages and rustic pubs, as well as dozens of Castles, Abbeys and Stately homes within easy reach. Or just immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of the truly breathtaking natural scenery.

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Maria Max Lever

After many years living abroad in Asia and the Middle East, we have recently returned to the UK to fulfill a long-held dream of living in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, and using our creative skills to create a memorable holiday destination experience for guests.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Overdale House and Marrick at first sight with its unique marriage of historical properties, stunning Swaledale scenery, abundant wildlife and genuine peace and quiet.
What makes this property unique
Our intention was to retain all the genuine charm and historical integrity of this 280-year old miner's cottage - with its original beams and stone staircase - and to then enhance it with sympathetic touches of contemporary comfort. All of the artwork has been created by Martin (an international award winning artist whose studio is in the grounds of Overdale House). Max's keen eye for interior design that comes from her years working in property has helped us curate a space that we hope you will find both relaxing and inspiring.
