About this property

Charming 17th Century Cottage In Croscombe, Somerset

Situated in the heart of the ancient village of Croscombe Millview is just 100m from the village pub; no drink driving here.

The entrance hall to Millview with its beautiful old flagstones worn to a polish by generations of boots and shoes has a stone archway leading into the earlier section of the house dating from the very earliest years of the 17th century. Here, the stairs lead up to the first floor.
Sitting Room

The sitting room beyond has a welcoming log burning stove set into a huge inglenook fireplace. This fireplace houses a seven foot deep bread oven although now the door has been replaced by a beautiful stained glass window made by the owner showing the nearby Glastonbury Tor. Again, the floor is of ancient flagstones but here for comfort covered in part by a carpet. The sitting room is complete with digital LCD TV with DVD Player and comfortable seating for up to 6 people.

Dining Room
The adjacent dining room has a large table, easily seating 6 people. In this room there is an original glass fronted cupboard built into the wall, and a fireplace with a dressed stone surround. Under the window is a wooden chest with an assortment of board games.

Kitchen
The galley style kitchen is beautifully fitted with a full range of appliances, and is fully equipped to provide for up to 6 people. Leading from the kitchen is a small utility area with a washing machine, fridge freezer and a microwave.
Upstairs
There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other with a double and a single bed, both bedrooms have polished wood floors with rugs. The larger of these two bedrooms has an ornate cast iron fireplace set into the corner of the wall.
PLEASE NOTE We do not live locally so are unable to provide bed linen or towels,
duvets and pillows are of course supplied.

Bedroom 1 Bedroom 2

The bathroom is also on the first floor, and has a free standing roll top bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Although the ceilings are high the doorways are not, you have been warned!

Garden
The pretty garden at the rear of the house is tranquil with only the chatter of jackdaws that congregate around the nearby church to intrude on the peace. The garden is mostly laid to lawn with flower beds and mature shrubs.

There is a gas powered BBQ and loungers provided together with a table, umbrella and chairs for al fresco dining.

Cute period cottage,

Great location near to Glastonbury and in the countryside. Road can be busy during week but was quiet on weekend. Fantastic garden. Lovely place to get together with friends.

We (two adults two kids aged 13 and 19y) have very much loved to stay at this pleasant place - an exceptional house and beautiful starting point for day trips to Bath, Glastonbury and Wells of course. The local pub is also very much to be recommended. The house itself is marvellous of course. We also enjoyed TV, collection of games and the small but complete kitchen. Very kind and responsive hosts also. If you're going to go there, start looking forward!

A great base for exploring the area

We loved our stay. It’s surprisingly roomy and although the kitchen is compact, it’s laid out well and it’s got everything you need. Comfortable beds. It’s full of character and quite quirky but very homely. The fabulous George pub is a minutes walk away. Recommend the steak and ale pie!

Location was a good central location for sightseeing/major attractions. Owner excuse for not providing bedding is NO excuse for not doing so. Having to take such and make up and strip beds is not something relished when on vacation. Bed mattress's ok but would benefit from Lux hotel quality upgrade. Property is well maintained and has nice artifacts. Kitchen is well equipped from a vacation standpoint. Taking own bathroom supplies, i.e. everything, is a downer. Please accept these remarks as constructive criticism to gain future 'excellent ratings'

Second stay at Millview

Second stay at this gorgeous spacious house. Aladdins cave of delights, you can’t get bored even if the weather is bad, so many books, table tennis, beautiful peaceful garden. Feel very at peace in this cottage. Check in super easy, parking fine usually a space on the hill just outside or at the top of the hill always plenty of space. All modern amenities, Beds super comfy. Loads to do locally, Wells is lovely (vicars close/cathedral/bishops palace) Glastonbury (Tor/town for lots of fun shopping) Cheddar Gorge, Wookey caves etc…No complaints Thankyou for another lovely break in this little haven from the modern world

Lovely antique home

Well equipped and comfortable. Unfortunately, a health issue caused us to leave early. The town was small and charming. The church beautiful. Bell ringing and practice fun to hear. The local pub friendly and food good.

Nice cottage in an authentic village

A very cute garden, an authentic cosy cottage in a lovely village. We stayed for 7 days in the house with 3 children. Very nice location for visiting Somerset. And very good communication with Peter, our host. But mind yours heads as the doors are very low...

Beautifully Restored Cottage

A beautifully restored 17th Century Cottage, well placed for all the sights of Northern Somerset. Lovely village with many, very hilly, walks. We could not fault the house- lovely to stay in a rented house with comfortable sofas and a terrific amount of good reading material. A definite ten out of ten- would certainly look to stay again when we are next in the area.
