About this property

STUNNING HOME ON BABBLING FODDER CREEK

Nestled among Hiawassee’s rolling hills, in the shadow of Brasstown Bald, our home sits on 490 feet of picturesque Fodder Creek. The house offers rustic charm with contemporary elegance. Built in 2007, and winner of five design awards, the mountain retreat provides a perfect getaway for relaxation, outdoor activities nearby, and romance. It's an ideal location for your family's
get away or vacation, or to celebrate a special or romantic occasion offering spacious, cozy accommodations for up to seven people. The first floor
affords an open floor plan with gourmet kitchen, and island bar, seating two.Notice that there is a closet for the washer/dryer, available to our guests for their use. The adjacent dining area has a wood table which seats seven. The inviting great room lures you with a stack-stone, propane fireplace with a stone hearth to warm your hands or just sit on. We have HD TV (with the NFL football pkg.), as well as a DVD player (and a large selection of movies to view for all ages. The bookcase invites you to select a book to read or a game to play. The guest bedroom has a queen-size log bed, with a pull-out trundle bed. This room also has a nice walk-in closet to store your belongings in. Adjoining via door is the first floor, bathroom with its large vanity, tub and shower. Ascend the staircase to the gracious master suite, which encompasses the second floor, providing sanctuary within. Be pampered by its luxurious chaise lounge while viewing nature and sounds of the babbling creek through a wall of windows. The suite features cathedral ceilings, featuring the large, deer horn chandelier. This suite has another floor to ceiling, propane-fired fireplace with stone hearth - enjoy another HD television, too. There is a large wet bar where you can enjoy coffees, a bottle of wine and is fully stocked, including a microwave for those snacks. Enjoy your refreshments at the inviting, two-seat cafe set and take in more pastoral views from the front windows. In this area there is a daybed with a pull up trundle -bed- additional sleeping for two persons - or a perfect niche to enjoy a book or take a nap.The king canopy bed was commissioned to reflect the trees viewed from the large windows. The suite also features two bathrooms: one for him with walk-in, glass shower, vanity area and generous closet to store your belongings. The second, large full bathroom offers an inviting soaking tub, bathrobes for your use as well as a large dressing/vanity area with amazing storage available. The wall of windows invites one to open the windows and let in the sounds of the creek while soaking in the tub (which also has a hand-held shower wand, should you prefer). Now, go explore the amazing nature which abounds in the rear of the home - enjoy peaceful breezes and views of the creek while dining outdoors; or gather around the flagstone fire pit and relax in chairs and seatee for the evening, under a canopy of mountain laurel and large, old trees, including one that is native to the area and unusual. It is known as the Buckeye Tree and drops red, hard nuts in the fall. In the spring, you will enjoy the expansive vision of native blooming mountain laurel bushes
along the creek's edge. The property winds along 490 feet of Fodder Creek, and can be accessed easily; or just sit, gaze, read, nap, chat on our patio with native reed chairs and a chaise lounge to relax on. One can walk in the creek and explore the various falls, islands and parts with holes deep enough to bathe in.Trout have been caught in these spring-fed waters. The stone walkway invites you to stroll to all the above areas in the back yard. There are also lovely cushions available for the seatees and chairs in the large storage box up by the dining area, along with several children's life jackets, if needed. We hope you will find your special moment and place here to be refreshed and invigorated by Fodder Creek's soothing sounds or sampling the local cities diverse charms. We hope you will be so enchanted, you'll will return to explore what you might not have been able to enjoy this trip. The RICH HISTORY of our valley and surrounding mountains is amazing - from
indian tribes long before history began (Mayan); the Cherokee tribes have left us with
monuments, mounds, and proof of how they lived before the Trail of Tears. The area
is known for its gold mining, marble mining and the oldest mountains, worldwide, as
well as the largest documented number of flora and fauna. Chances are, one of the notches you see atop a mountain was used by Native Indians as a place of worship or
fielding their stock.

Little Piece of Heaven on Earth
No words can summarize our week in this paradise. It was a three generation get together, 81 - 8 years old. The photos don't do it justice, it is so much more. The kitchen is well equipped, the home is beautifully decorated and comfortable. Beds are so comfy, and two of us have had back surgeries! From entry to exit, we loved every minute. The creek was our main focus, several days we did not leave the property. We hated to leave, so we booked another two week stay this coming summer. The hosts were easy to contact and communicate. We stay in dozens (even hundreds) of VRBO's around the world, but this has topped them all.

Relaxing Birthday Stay
The pictures and description does not fully capture the beauty of the location. The location is amazing and very inviting. There is nothing like waking up the first morning to the sun and taking in your breathe taking surrounding and view is like nothing else. This place has the feel of being secluded but yet you are still near a pharmacy and grocery store. Karen & Dave are very nice and inviting and make you feel welcome from the moment your booking is confirmed. They go the extra mile to make there home feel like your home. They have a good selection of K-cup coffees and teas. My party only had one inconvenience and that was lady bugs were in the upstairs room. Overall our stay was wonderful and a great way to unwind from the stress of life. I will definitely be back.

We loved it.
The property is wonderful both inside and outside. The backyard has several great sitting areas, and the creek is beautiful. We have rented quite a few vacation houses through the years but none that have been this well-appointed and this well-stocked. But even more than the property, the owners/hosts were wonderful when a death in our family necessitated a late change in our travel plans and they were so kind and helpful in resolving our issues. This was an A+ experience in all respects.

About the host

My husband, Dave, and I are "family" people - the best times and memories are with family. Dave has a large family in Baltimore, where he was born and raised. We own a truck transport business in Baltimore, Md. which also employs several of his family members.
My career path was in petroleum products marketing for 22 years in
the Va./Md./Del./Pa. markets. Approximately 12 years ago we retired and moved to Flagler Beach where we built an ocean view home and watched our family grow. We now share 8 grandchildren from Md. to Cal. and love to share adventures and fun with them. Dave loves to golf and build wood projects or help others and I love to quilt, swim and cook. Fodder Creek is the beginning of a new journey in our marriage and we look forward to sharing this with our family as well as with you.

Why they chose this property

I've always loved the seasons; being a Floridian..there's only ONE. Georgia has been calling to us for a long time. We have friends and extended family in Georgia; and we truly missed the change of seasons
one enjoys in the North. Georgia offers a beautiful spring, summer fun in the lakes and streams, and luscious colors in the fall with crisp evenings and a touch of snow in the winter. We have looked for a long time for the perfect oasis for us - I wanted a babbling brook and the sound of breezes as well as mountain vistas. The first moment we saw
Fodder Creek, we felt the sense of "home, family". We hope you do, as well.

What makes this property unique

We love the first view of Brass Bald Mountain with its mountain top monument and are totally lured to the sounds of the Creek. We feel a welcoming sense as we enter the double front doors and see the coziness of the living room. Obviously, as I love to cook - this kitchen is so appealing; I can't wait to get in there. The Master Suite with its unusual chandelier and vast graciousness makes one look forward to spending relaxing, private time there.
We both love to take, what we call" adventures" to sightsee.. Bell Mtn. in Hiawassee is a MUST SEE - fantastic/gorgeous views of Lake Chatuge and amazing sunsets! I have always enjoyed the Cherokee area and Blue Ridge - now Dave will. We always find something interesting in Blair, like the "donations appreciated" concerts of country instruments, county fairs, etc. Helen is such a fun place to sightsee/shop/eat. You have three states to find new adventures. Fodder Creek is in a wonderful location to branch out and share your own "adventures".
