About this property
Lochelour Mill Cottage - a cottage that sleeps 2 guests in 1 bedroom
Lochelour Mill Cottage is a charming cottage formed from a superbly finished traditional water mill conversion, set in a quiet and peaceful location it is about half way between the popular towns of Comrie and Crieff, both of which have an excellent selection of restaurants, Art Cafes, independent shops and Art galleries. The cottage, which is attached to the owners property, offers 5* standard luxury accommodation for 2 all on the ground floor and is the perfect base for exploring this fabulous area of Perthshire.
The spacious sitting room has a smart TV and Electric Stove together with separate dining area. The well equipped kitchen has all you need for preparing a quiet meal in when you don’t want to be trying one of the excellent restaurants which are available throughout the local area
The Crieff and Comrie area is an excellent all year round destination with regular social events and activities including a farmers market, Highland Games, traditional Scottish music festival and Drovers Tryst Walking Festival. Tourist attractions nearby include Glenturret Distillery, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, is just 2 miles away and well worth a visit to sample its award-winning malt whisky or enjoy the Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant which offers a dynamic selection of eclectic seasonal dishes and Bar Lunches. www.theglenturret.com
For golfers there are 20 courses within a 15-mile radius. Crieff is the closest with challenging, and very scenic, 9 (The Dornock) and 18 (Ferntower) hole courses. It also has an excellent Clubhouse with a good menu. The famous Gleneagles, of Ryder Cup fame, is just 12 miles away and another favourite is the 9 hole course at St Fillans which was voted Scotland’s best 9 hole course from 2019 to 2022 and shortlisted in 2023 – a favourite of the great Sandy Lyle. Given the rural location of the cottage in picturesque Strathearn there is a variety of interesting walks (for all levels of walkers) in the immediate area to soak up the natural beauty of the region. There are also opportunities for loch and river fishing, mountain biking and water sports at Loch Earn (8 miles west on the A85). Crieff is 2 miles to the East on the A85 and Comrie is 3 miles to the West on the same road. Apart from the afore-mentioned Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant you also have several good restaurants and pub food in Crieff and Comrie.
The local countryside provides the chance to sample the best of the Perthshire countryside and Crieff is known as the town with its feet in the lowlands and it’s head in the highlands, making it perfect for exploring. There are nearby mountains for those who wish to reach the peaks of Munros such as Ben Vorlich, Ben Chonzie and Ben Lawers which all offer excellent walking and mountain biking. If more gentle activities are needed then the local towns of Aberfeldy, Comrie, Dunkeld and Pitlochry are all within easy reach and all have excellent facilities including cafes, art galleries and interesting local shops.
The cottage is in outstanding area with a wide range of water sports are available on Loch Earn and Loch Tay and a trip to the Dunkeld woods and forests should not be missed to see the stunning landscapes and trees that the area has. Crieff is about the most central place in Scotland so day trips to a great range of places are possible and include Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Stirling, Glencoe, St Andrews and even Inverness. So, whatever your interests, be they the great outdoors or Scotland’s fabulous history and heritage you are sure to have a memorable holiday.
