Napili Hale: A Kama'aina Gem
Positioned in the heart of Napili, fronting Lower Honoapi’ilani Road, the Napili Hale is one of the last big-Kama’aina properties in the area. This 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 2,000 sq ft home sits on a lush 16,000 sq ft lot, shaded by towering 100-year-old monkey pod trees. It's been in the family for five generations and, like most kama'aina homes, it's all about that casual, island vibe.
Just a five-minute stroll to Napili Bay—a picture-perfect white-sand beach where sunsets over Lana’i and Moloka’i will leave you mesmerized.
The layout is effortless: the north side of the house features two ensuite bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, living room, and TV. The south side has another ensuite bedroom, plus a standard bedroom with a bathroom right next door. There’s also a wet bar and a cozy lounge area with a large couch and TV—perfect for getting comfortable and watching your favorite show. The entry room’s French doors open up to create seamless indoor/outdoor living.
2023 Updates:
We've refreshed the place with new king-size mattresses, a full house repaint, a Trex front deck, and some fresh furnishings including a giant L-shaped couch.
This home is part of a pocket of residential homes of generational families from the area—quiet and unpretentious. Privacy is key, so please respect the neighbors and avoid walking or driving up the private road—it’s a peaceful residential area.
The Highlights:
• Kama'aina-style home in prime Napili location, steps from Napili Bay
• Spacious open floor plan with living room, dining area, family room,
and kitchen
• Bonus living space with wet bar, perfect for entertaining or relaxing
• 4 bedrooms: King / King / Queen / 2 Twin beds
• 4 full bathrooms
• Fully equipped kitchen with all the essentials (cookware, dinnerware,
etc.)
• Full-size appliances: 2 refrigerators, beverage cooler, dishwasher, gas
cooktop, and oven
• Dining for 8, plus extra seating for 4 and bar seating for 3
• Two washers and dryers on-site
• Outdoor BBQ for grilling
• Big yard with picnic table for al fresco dining
• Fast WiFi throughout the property
• Plenty of parking for everyone
Notes:
• Local feral roosters roam the area—some find them charming,
others... not so much.
• The neighborhood has a rural Hawaiian feel, though it’s close to
resort area amenities.
Bonus: The house is now outfitted with newly installed split AC units in every bedroom and living area
We’ve made packing a breeze with essentials like irons, hairdryers, bath and beach towels, plus a starter supply of paper goods, soaps, laundry detergent, and more.
Get ready to unwind and enjoy the Napili Hale.

About the host
Hosted by Colleen Medeiros

O'ahu is my home island, Moved to Maui, my father's home, after college. I worked as an archaeologist for 16 years on Maui and now work in Real Estate. I enjoy the outdoors and time spent with my family and friends.
Why they chose this property
The uniqueness of the house and property comes with its location and history. This residential neighborhood was once considered a very remote area of Maui where a handful of Hawaiian fishing families lived. In more recent historic times it was surrounded by a multitude of orchards that Honolua Ranch manager David T. Fleming planted in an effort to diversify Ranching operations. The historic Honolua Ranch headquarters were located up Office Road, by the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The Seahouse restaurant across the street at the Napili Kai Resort, was originally the Managers Club for the Honolua Ranch at a time when there where no hotels along Napili Bay. During that time, my great Aunt Lahela lived in a house right where the Napili house is today. There were few other homes around. The few that were nearby were other Hawaiian families and the Ranch managers. There were plantation camps located along what is now Office Road, where the Ritz Carlton is. The plantation camps were generally grouped ethnically, with individuals and families of Hawaiians, Chinese, and Japanese ancestry living in separate 'camps'. Those who lived at these camps were employees of Honolua Ranch and then D.T. Fleming's plantation/orchards. Napili became a vacation destination in the 1960's and most the condo's and hotels you see here today were built around that time. The Napili house property and the pocket of residential homes immediately surrounding it are some of the last vestiges of the Hawaiian community that were present prior to the Honolua Ranch era and prior to the areas transformation into a vacation destination. It is really a special place for me as generations of my family have lived here.
What makes this property unique
Travelers booking the Napili house will enjoy a large home, with double amenities for large groups; two outdoor showers, two washers and two dryers! Plenty of space and privacy and at an affordable price! Additionally, the experience of everyday kama'aina living is pretty nice, at least we think so!
