About this property

Log home-Lake Superior view, peaceful, wooded, private, near trails, sauna 2026

Split Rock Log Cabin is a beautifully built handcrafted log home perfectly located for your North Shore vacation. A peaceful and calming escape from a busy life, it is a wonderful place to disconnect where you can relax all day or a great place to come home to after a day of exploring the hiking trails, parks, and Lake Superior beaches. Sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the lake while listening to the wind in the large white pines surrounding the cabin.

Take a break under the tall pines in the provided hammock or build a fire in the outdoor fire ring. Watch wildlife and listen to the birdsong in the morning. The interior of the cabin is welcoming and spacious and truly is relaxing just to walk into. Enjoy cooking in the large kitchen; relaxing in a recliner or rocking chair in front of the fire; sit on the balcony reading a book; play games, cards, watch a movie, enjoy a game of air hockey or foosball; or just have a drink or grill a meal on the deck while enjoying nature and the view. Each season brings a different appeal to the cabin.

It is located just outside the quaint town of Beaver Bay, which has various restaurants and a few shops to explore. The paved Gitchi-Gami trail, which has several segments along the shore, is just across the road at the end of the driveway. Bike rental is available at Cove Point Crossing about 1/2 mile from the cabin. Bike the trail to Split Rock Lighthouse or Gooseberry Falls. Mountain bike (or hike) the new Split Rock Wilds trail right from the cabin or park closer at the nearby trailhead. Hike to Cove Point to get a drink or a pizza. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is a 5 minute drive and Gooseberry Falls is a 15 minute drive away, Palisade Head and Tettegouche State Park only 20 minutes. All of these parks offer great hiking and sightseeing opportunites with waterfalls, lighthouse, and lake views. The Superior HIking Trail, which spans the whole North Shore, is accessible within 1/2 mile of the cabin.

The attractive town of Two Harbors is only 1/2 hour away and has many shops, restaurants, and a lighthouse to explore. Lutsen Mountain near Tofte offers breathtaking views while downhill skiing. Speed down the mountain on the Alpine Slides or take the relaxing Gondola ride up to the top of the Sawtooth range to have a lunch with a sweeping view of Lake Superior. Grand Marais and Ely are about an hour away and have many shops and seasonal festivals and activities. Check out the North House Folk School for year round classes.

In winter some of the best snowshoeing and skiing abound just down the road. Tettegouche has maintained cross country ski trails. All ungroomed trails are great for snowshoeing and the rivers are beautiful in the winter!

There is a snowmobile trail that starts near the cabin and joins up with the north shore trail system.

We would love to have you stay at our cabin!

Lovely Log Cabin

We try and do the North Shore every year, and this year we decided to stay in a private home, rather than a resort. The home was comfortable to absolutely gorgeous. Sarah was super easy to work with, and we will definitely add this listing to our favorites.

This cabin provided everything we were looking for for a winter getaway. From the kindling and logs stacked next to the stove, to Sarah going WAY out of her way to ensure the driveway was salted prior to our arrival, this was an ideal getaway. We will absolutely be back.

Perfect New Year's Getaway

This was the perfect way to spend some quality family time over the holidays and usher in 2021. The cabin is very clean, cozy and well maintained. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, which is much appreciated for those of us who love to cook! We were on a mission to get the kids out snowshoeing, so the location between Split Rock and Tettegouche state parks was perfect. We definitely hope to return and enjoy it during a different season!

MN North Shore Fall Get Away

When we walked in the front door we immediately felt the warmth of home away from home. Very inviting, all our expectations of a log vacation home we’re met. The home was meticulous the view spectacular. The wood burning stove was our greatest enjoyment after coming home from the days activity’s. We are already planning 2023 vacation to this log cabin. End of summer getaway

We had a great time, the cabin is beautiful. Sarah is always available and is so nice. Staying that far up north allowed us to get to places like Grand Portage and the high falls. We had fun by the fire pit making smores, but the mosquitoes are hungry! We had fun times playing foosball and air hockey championships at night. My daughter especially loved her own loft and private deck. You need to prepare yourself for little to no cell service, mosquitoes and restaurant prices.. but we would definitely stay there again. All or 4 wheel drive is an absolute must to stay here but worth it. FYI, when we stayed the wildfire smoke from Canada obscured most of the water view, but we still were able to see at least one of the big ships. The hummingbirds visited the flowers by the front door every morning.

About the host

Hosted by Sarah

Host profile image
We, Marc and Sarah, have been enjoying the North Shore for years. The parks, waterfalls, scenery, and trails have been a highlight for many of our vacations. We have a huge passion for log homes, after building two ourselves, so were excited to find Split Rock Log Cabin to be a base for our adventures. We look forward to sharing it with you!

We live in Wisconsin in the first log home that we built. We love living in the Midwest and enjoy the many activities the different seasons bring. Marc grew up in Canada and Sarah in Wisconsin. We recently adopted a beautiful boy born in April of 2018 and currently have a dog and 2 cats. Besides log building we enjoy gardening, making maple syrup, cutting wood, wood projects, hiking, biking, camping, Alaska fishing, many outdoor activities and occasional traveling.

Why they chose this property

We love this property! We always feel relaxed as soon as we pull in the driveway. The large white pine and other trees around make it feel so private and peaceful. The view of the lake is beautiful and framed by the tall pines. The cabin itself is well built, spacious, and, again, calming to walk into. It is like our home away from home but with no extra work to do! We are so happy we found it.

What makes this property unique

Right outside of the city limits of Beaver Bay, it is very conveniently located for restaurants. The Gitche Gami trail is a great bonus as well as the Superior Hiking Trail. The close proximity to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and other State Parks along the shore is also perfect.
