This was the perfect place for us to stay! We appreciated being able to have a long weekend vacation to stay with our dogs at a time the colors are optimal. It was very easy to travel around the North Shore both north and south. The amenities were great and make it a nice place to stay year round. We hope to be able to stay again!
Amazing location just minutes away from great hikes, trails, waterfalls, rivers, the lake, and bars/restaurants. And it really feels like home - clean, comfortable, all the amenities you need for an incredible trip to the north shore.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Plenty of amenities, kitchen was very well stocked, and the location was perfect for getting around to some great hiking trails.
Nice cabin in the woods, close to lots of North Shore attractions! We had 5 adults and 1 dog and used the trail shack as our home base for a long weekend getaway. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was well stocked, and we were very relaxed and happy during our stay.
We loved our stay here! The cabin is very comfortable & clean with the cutest decor. We were able to visit several state parks up and down Hay 61 due to the centralized location of this property. The hosts were so accommodating, we loved it so much that we extended our stay by one night. We will definitely be back in the future!
The cabin had everything we needed, short hike or drive to a lot of great locations on North Shore. Was comfortable for my partner and I to work remotely and relax for the week. Bonus that it is dog friendly. Would highly recommend!
Best rental ever! Inside and out clean, well equipped with everything needed to cook, laundry, comfy beds, located by gorgeous trail heads and right by the lake. Check in and out simple, quick, and owners replied immediately. Great place!
Communication from the manager and owner made everything easy - including finding the house at night, and getting inside. The kitchen has the pots and pans that we needed, and even an electric griddle. The living room has comfy couches and room to relax. Awesome location!
Overall this is an outstanding place to stay. Location is prime, everything is as advertised. Property manager communicates well. Easy access to trails.
This cabin was perfect for some fall hiking. Halfway up the north shore so you can go all the way north or down to duluth and its not too long of a drive. Nice quiet spot for our family to stay at.
A cabin feel with all the amenities, located right between Duluth and Grand Marais. The kids enjoyed their own space upstairs, and the high speed internet was enjoyed by all. Would definitely consider staying here again if in the area.
The cabin was exactly if not more than what we were expecting, it was a great location as it was basically a mid-point for us to explore various areas of the North Shore from Grand Marais to Duluth. It had a nice cabin feel and was stocked with kitchen supplies, which was great to be able to make some of our meals at the cabin. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay there again if I ever do another vacation in that area!
This property is a great set-up for families, has all the amenities one could need, and the interior layout is super functional. If anyone is doubting only having one bathroom, don't give it another thought, you'll be fine as the current bathroom is large and centrally located. Location couldn't be better for any season or recreation. Book today!
Wonderful location. Cabin worked well. Needed a 5th chair but brought in one from outside table. Good kitchen. Wish I’d known of ALL the spices and oil. Thanks for new remote for tv too!
Enjoyed our time there!
Beautiful property! We stayed here over Christmas break for a visit with family. The location is convenient being right off Hwy 61 but still quiet. We had a bad storm with 60mph winds but the cabin was very cozy. Colleen responded promptly to our emails.
We took advantage of the hills behind the cabin for toddler snowboarding and sledding for the bigger kids.
We plan on staying again and have already recommended this property to others.
Secluded just enough to be private, yet close stores if we needed something. Location was perfect for all of the places we wanted to see. Nice size. Plenty of supplies. More than we have ever seen at other places. First place that I know of that had two LP tanks for the grill, which worked great! We will stay there again.
Thank you for a memorable stay.

Overall this is a very nice, clean, well supplied cabin. Loved that we could snowmobile right from the cabin to the trails. I did not like how close to the road and actual highway it was. The description did not clearly state that it is only about 1 block off the Highway. To bad it wasn't built up in the woods more. Beautiful acreage behind the cabin. Other than that it was perfect for what we wanted to do -Snowmobile!
My wife and I stayed 4 nights at the Beaver Bay Trail Shack. Great property for enjoying the Gitchi-Gami State Trail and Split Rock Wilds MTB trail. The property is clean and cozy. It was only the two of us and it was perfect. WiFi was great; > 600 Mbps download and >100 Mbps upload. I worked a far amount while up at the property and the connectivity was superb. Easy access to state parks and the Gitchi-Gami bike trail. Highly recommend this property for couples and small groups of up to 4 people. Only nit would be the single bathroom. But again, it's a cabin, not your home.
My husband and I (in our 70's), our daughter and son in law (in their 40s) and our grandson (10) shared the TrailShack. We were the organizers for a 50 person family reunion in Beaver Bay so we spent A LOT of time away from "the shack" . . . but when we were home it was cozy and fun. Enough space to have your privacy yet good gathering spaces as well.
It would have been much easier for us if there had been two or more keyes . . .and I know that you could have them made at Julie's True Value in Silver Bay. Please consider this.
Had a good time. Wonderful fire pit. Enjoyed the sauna too

We are a family of five. We have another rental in the area and we love the North Shores variety of activities. One day we will be hiking, then biking, then on ATV or Snowmobile trails. I wish we had more time for the North Shore ourselves. I seem to enjoy more the more time I spend up there. Every season has something new to offer.
Why they chose this property
I loved the private lot of the Trail Shack and the convenience and flexibility that it offered. I wanted a clean, comfortable place with some character. I loved the access to all of the trails. You can access beaver bay and silver bay through the trail systems and avoid ever going on highway 61.
What makes this property unique
Easy access to roads, trails, restaurants, bars, activities without compromising privacy.
