About this property
200’ of your own private accessible Lake Superior Shore: Stony Shores Retreat
Looking for privacy? Welcome to Stony Shores Retreat!
Walk down to Lake Superior’s shores on the wide mowed path from the lakeside of the house to the secluded shoreline area. A small lane along the edge of the property allows you to drive down if you prefer. You can even take your canoe/kayak down and launch right from the shore. A large mowed open lawn close to the lakeshore says “come play”; you have the whole 200’ of Lake Superior frontage for your private enjoyment! Adjoining properties are privately owned and the lakeshore is not public property, so please do not trespass on neighbors’ lakeshore. There is a fire-pit and chairs down by The Lake for those evening campfires. NOTE: Because of the uneven surface of stones frequently tossed up by the Lake storms, use the lakeshore “beach” and fire-pit at your own risk. As always, use caution when walking on loose and uneven stone surfaces if venturing off the mowed lawn area.
Brilliant sunrises, gentle waves, wildlife visitors, screeching eagles perched high in the shoreline trees, a variety of birds and even calling/dancing loons and white pelicans are all frequent sights. Living On The Big Lake offers something different every day. IMPORTANT: after arrival please contact local property managers who live nearby directly for any assistance or needs. Contact info is posted inside the entry and at kitchen island.
This is a remodeled rustic coastal retreat with large floor to ceiling patio doors across the back looking out at Lake Superior. (Please be cautious as these patio doors do open but there is no step or deck adjoining the home at these doors). The home has all hardwood floors, wood burning fireplace, fully equipped open kitchen with island, TWO remodeled bathrooms, three bedrooms, deck and patio.
With this kind of unrivaled access to the Lake Superior shore, you may want to spend the entire stay reconnecting with loved ones and nature. But if you do wish to explore the area further, you are close to so much the North Shore has to offer.

Great stay! The house features a clear view of the lake from multiple rooms and a convenient path leading straight down to the water. The property was clean, comfortable, and accurate to the listing photos. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing lake getaway.
This property was great and perfect for our family vacation. It was just as it was described in the listing. It had all the supplies that we needed the home was clean and comfortable for the 5 of us to stay in. I would stay here again when given the chance.

Thank you, Christy. Please do come again and perhaps take in the beauty of the North Shore in a different season.
Place was great and looks just like the pictures. Super easy instructions, we didn't need to reach out the the host at all. Awesome view of the lake and shore line.

Thank you and glad you found no surprises! I noticed last time I was there a few days ago that the property could use its occasional “vista trim”. It does have a great view of that Big Lake.
My property managers do live nearby and are always happy to address any needs that may arise after guest check-in. You are welcome to return any time.
The shoreline was exactly as pictured in the listing. We came in the springtime and the view of the water was awesome from the sliding glass doors in the living room and also in one of the bedroom. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

Thank you! So glad it met your expectations and you are most welcome to come back any time.
The fall with all its colorful leaves mixed in with the green pine trees is also a very beautiful season on the North Shore.
Nice and cozy, although the couch could use an upgrade. There was not a fire pit by the house as stated(way better by lake any way). Otherthan that, very enjoyable stay. The grounds are very spacious with great landcaping. Bring your corn hole set or other lawn toys. Firepit on lake was absolutely perfect for evening fires.

Thanks for your feedback! The couch will get replaced very soon and the firepit on the patio was rusted out when guests did not cover it after use and the weather took its toll on it. I did not replace it. I better update listing details!
Come back anytime.

We had a great stay with our sons and their girlfriends! We enjoyed a lakeside fire, spending time on the deck taking in the great view, and hiking at a few of the great spots nearby. There was a great space for lawn games that we brought along, although Mother Nature sent a full day of rain so that didn't happen. No matter, we moved indoors for board games in the light and airy living area and enjoyed watching the weather cross over the lake. After the fierce competition, some found their way back to their comfortable bedrooms and listened to the thunder while drifting off to a rainy afternoon nap. The kitchen was well stocked - although I would suggest adding a 9x13 pan and a pizza pan. We did have to replenish the toilet paper during our stay as there was only one additional roll in each room, but the grocery store is a quick drive away and it came in handy for things we forgot to pack. Also a great asset to this property was being able to drive down to the lakeside fire pit as I have knee issues and it was great to be able to enjoy that time with my family. Thank you for a wonderful time spent with family at one of our favorite vacation spots!!
We loved the property! Gorgeous private location with beautiful beach access to the lake. We used the firepit by the lake several times...so relaxing! Kitchen was nice and spacious for prepping and cooking.
The property was beautiful and the home had everything we needed. It was so peaceful and inviting. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well supplied, and there was plenty of room for our group to relax.
Property is in a beautiful location right on the shore of Superior with awesome views. The firepit is awesome. Tons of space to play cornhole. We had many fun and a little competitive games. There is a large mown area by the firepit that could easily host a badminton or volleyball game if you bring your own equipment. But a few things keep me from giving it a five star review. First, was that the house has a musty smell and a short visit to the basement explains why, it's damp. I have mild asthma and needed to keep the windows open to get fresh air. There was a heavy rain right before we arrived but it was mostly dry the rest of our stay. Spraying with bleach and installing an exhaust fan to move air out would probably solve this. There is a dehumidifier but it's old and possibly clogged. Second is overall cleanliness. The floors are beautiful hardwood narrow boards with tight grain. You don't see that in new construction anymore. But they are not clean! It may be that the only way to fix this is by refinishing which is a large task but perhaps necessary. Third was the flies. Not sure where they all come from and there may not be much the owner can do about them, but they were a constant nuisance. There are several fly swatters provided but as soon as we dispatched a few, more took their place. Perhaps dealing with the damp musty basement would address the fly issue.
A beautiful property. Very private and relaxing. Easy access to everything the North Shore has to offer. Beautiful beach and views of Lake Superior. The host was very accommodating.

Beautiful spot for my wedding party to all stay at, the beach was amazing, rooms were very nicly sized with plenty of space to hang out together inside and outside, breathtaking views of the lake with massive sliding glass doors to take in the view.
Easy entry to the house, host was quick to answer any questions before our check in. I never wanted to leave! I will be coming back again!
Great location (private and a beautiful location on the lake). Nice home but it’s showing some ware. Loved the oversized sliding doors that let in a breeze and view of the lake.

Really enjoyed our long weekend here. Had everything we wanted: on the water, views, and privacy. The owner was very easy to work with. The property was great. And it was very close to hikes, beaches and waterfalls. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful cottage and property. Very thoughtful providing essentials. Lovely view of the lake and nice property down at the shore. I will definitely book again!
Great location to a bunch of State Parks. Comfortable bed!
