About this property

Stunning Mountain Lake, Private Forest, Beautiful 4 BR & 4 BA

Montlake is a unique mountain lake formed millions of years ago. It is one of the very few natural lakes in Tennessee. Our Montlake Retreat is a very spacious home with about 20 acres of wooded grounds. There are trails around the lake, and there is a waterfall directly across the lake from the terrace. We are family-oriented, but also welcome special interest groups, such as rock climbers, sports teams, fishermen (up to three boats), weddings, reunions. etc.

Montlake has four bedrooms, four baths, living room, library, great room/dining room, kitchen, and laundry room. There are two fireplaces (library and great room) and a large deck above the terrace. It is a long, rambling house, so there is plenty of privacy for everyone. The master bath has a jetted tub and separate shower, as well as a large walk-in closet and bidet. The other three baths have toilets, sinks, and tub-showers. The laundry room has large capacity (front-loading) washer and dryer. The terrace overlooks the lake and is a pleasant place to bask in the sun or gather around a campfire. Added bonus for the kids: If you hike all the way around the lake, you are entitled to ring the antique bell!

The views at Montlake are beautiful.

Here's what our guests have to say:

'Our stay at Montlake was GREAT!!! Your home was so beautiful and comfortable. There was plenty of room for everyone (we had 9 in our group) to relax and do their own thing. The lake was breathtaking, we hiked around the lake, grilled, and enjoyed the sites. The waterfall was beautiful, it had just rained and it was falling very heavily. The location of your home was also great we were just about 20-25 minutes to all attractions, Rock City, Ruby Falls and Chattanooga Railroad Station. Thank you for letting us come to your lovely home. I highly recommend this home to anyone. Hope to stay again next year.' --Carol I.

'We have been recommending your house to friends and family!' --Fabienne V.

'Thank you for the use of your lovely home! We had a relaxed, companiable weekend with our friends. Oh--and the view of the lake is breathtaking! Thank you again; you have a lovely, lovely home.
--Linda and John D.

Excellent!

We rented this place to celebrate the graduation of our son from UTC. It was very accommodating for a large group. The view out back is gorgeous. The weather that weekend was stormy, but we still had a wonderful time together. We would definitely visit again.

A Memorable Experience

After not being able to visit Montlake for decades, this was a very special experience for my wife and me. It is a beautiful location with easy access to a trail leading to the water or around the lake. It would be very comfortable for eight (four couples). I would prefer a king bed in the Master suite vs. two doubles. Some updating would be nice but it was comfortable and extremely clean. The host is very accommodating abd communication was timely. It

Beautiful property on a unique lake. Montlake had a big part in my memories & I’m so glad I got to experience staying on the lake. We came with our children & grandchildren & enjoyed meals & games around the dining table. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us to spread out

Beautiful and privet

If you are looking for modern and new this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a spacious well loved home, you have found it. Everything was very clean! 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a study, large dinning and furnish kitchen. The art decorating the home is beautiful and the view is stunning. Can you imagine having a private lake with your very own waterfall and path thur the woods. I highly recommend Montlake Retreat.

Clean, great view, wonderful hosts, short drive to eating locations, curvy roads for short periods but that is to be expected in the mountains. Would stay again and would recommend.

Great space for a getaway

We had 11 family members staying at the house and we really enjoyed our stay. The description online matched the house perfectly. We enjoyed the artwork in the house and the stories behind them. We also explored the property and it was beautiful.

We chose this location because it was central to our family members traveling from different areas. The photos are beautiful, but the real life view is AMAZING. We had a wonderful weekend. The property owners were nearby for anything we needed.

Wonderful Escape with Family

We really enjoyed Mariela's home. The view from the backyard is breathtaking, photos don't do it justice! We enjoyed the walking path around the lake, an evening fire outdoors, and the large dining table for family meals. Our dog, Olive, felt right at home and loved the big wooded yard with plenty of sticks for fetching. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to unplug and enjoy the company of friends and family.

Perfect place!

We rented the house for a basketball tournament that was nearby for our team of boys and coaches for the week. It was secluded to where we could meet and bond together as a team. The scenery was awesome around the house and the walking trails were good for the boys to go out on. There was plenty of room for every one. The folks were perfect to work with and helped out in any way needed.

Mom and Dads 60th Anniversary

This is amazing property! My 2 sisters and I were here for 3 nights for our parents anniversary. We had more than enough room for everyone. We cooked and grilled out while we are there. They had every kitchen item you could want. We had trails to walk and the view from the terrace was breathtaking. The hosts were super nice and accommodating. They check on us to see if everything was ok. I cannot say enough good things about our stay. I will be back at Christmas with the grandkids.

Wonderful!! Everything was perfect.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. Our family so enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. The well-stocked kitchen, the floor plan, the comfortable beds, the beautiful view of the lake from the terrace, the path around the lake and our wonderful hostess were all amazing. It felt like home and I would love to live there and walk out every morning to see the lake and hear the waterfall. We took the family to the Tennessee Aquarium and to one of the blue holes in the area while we were there. There's plenty to do in the area and Chattanooga is so close. No one really wanted to leave and everyone in our group wants to go back soon. Thank you so much, Mariela.

Old and not well represented

While the house was clean, it was not well represented in this advertisement. The house was rented because we had 9 people staying here. There was not enough toilet paper to start. Crazy. Then, there were televisions in the living room, and 3 of the 4 bedrooms. One back bedroom didn't have a tv, and you couldn't sleep in it because the ceiling fan is bad, and it made a ton of noise. the other room on that end of the house had an ancient tv in it, but you couldn't watch it because there was so much "snow" on the screen you couldn't see the picture. Everything in this house is 30-40 years old, and needs desperately to be updated. The beds were very saggy in the middle, and when shared with another person, you both rolled inwards. The iron is broken and showing the coils, so very scary to use when needed. The back railing on the back porch is rotted out, and very unsafe. Can't leave children out there unwatched. The air conditioning didn't work the first 3 days we were there, and when it got fixed, would only cool the house to 78 degrees during the day. The unit is too small for this size house. While the house WAS clean, it was not a "comfortable" and relaxing place to stay, if you are looking for working amenities and a cool place to relax. We would not return, even though the people who owned it were very nice. I think they are charging too much for what they are offering.

Vacation July 1-8, 2018

We stayed at Montlake the week of July 4 (July 1 - July 8). We had 7 guests total for our annual family vacation. First, here are the positives: a) The view was spectacular! We enjoyed the trail around the lake and the natural beauty of the area. Even the view on the drive up and down the mountain was awesome! b) The house was spacious and had plenty of bedrooms/baths for our guests. c) There was plenty of cooking/eating utensils, though some of the cookware could stand to be replaced (especially the teflon pans). We fixed pizza one night but had to run to Wal-mart to buy a pizza cutter because we couldn't find one. d) The proximity to Chattanooga was great. It was just a short drive to downtown and there was closeby shopping for groceries and such. We enjoyed Ruby Falls, Rock City, the Incline Railroad and downtown during our stay. Now the negatives: a) The house needs some updating. The den coach was not comfy, and a couple of the cushioned chairs around the dining table felt as though you were falling through the bottom. I didn't hear any complaints about the beds so I assume everyone slept well. b) The internet connection was not good. The owner's son had to come over on our first night to get it up and running. After that, we had to reset the extender several times. From my understanding of my son's explanation, the house doesn't have its own internet connection. The rental is using the internet connection from the owner's house next door. The up and down of the connection was annoying but we managed. c) The owner's dog barked quite a bit every time we went out on the deck. It typically calmed down after a bit but that, too, was a distraction from the peace and quiet that we love while we're away. We got to spend some quality time with our sons so that was the main thing!
