About this property

Garreg Ddu

Welcome to Garreg Ddu, a beautifully refurbished mid-terrace stone cottage set in the heart of Blaenau Ffestiniog, part of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales—an historic slate-mining town surrounded by the breathtaking Snowdonia National Park. This charming property offers the ideal base for couples, friends, or small families seeking adventure, tranquility, and the very best of North Wales' natural beauty.

Garreg Ddu blends its rich heritage with modern touches, featuring exposed stonework, inglenook fireplaces, original slate floors. The spacious living area invites you to unwind after a day of exploring, complete with comfortable seating and a wood-burning stove. The dining space is perfect for both cosy dinners and relaxed family breakfasts. A modern, fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need, while the ground-floor shower room features a double walk-in drencher shower, basin, and toilet for added convenience.

Upstairs, you'll find two elegant bedrooms: a serene master with a king-size bed and views over the rooftops toward the rugged mountain scenery, and a second bedroom with a comfortable double bed. A handy upstairs cloakroom with toilet and wash basin completes the layout.

Outside, the cottage enjoys a sunny frontage with a charming enclosed patio, complete with garden furniture—perfect for relaxing in the afternoon or evening sun.

Just across the road is Cellb, a boutique 50-seat cinema housed in a historic police station and courthouse. A short stroll brings you to the town centre. The renowned Ffestiniog–Porthmadog Steam Railway is less than a 10-minute walk away, while thrill-seekers can enjoy ZipWorld Titan, Zip Caverns, and Bounce Below nearby.

Mountain bikers are spoiled for choice too, with Antur Stiniog just 5 minutes away, and the famous Coed-y-Brenin and Betws-y-Coed trails within a 30-minute drive. Further afield, the coastal towns of Harlech and Criccieth—with their medieval castles and sandy beaches—and the enchanting Italianate village of Portmeirion are all within easy reach. Nearby towns to Blaenau Ffestiniog within about 30 minutes include the coastal town of Porthmadog, historic Harlech and Beddgelert, offering Welsh culture, beaches, castles, and railway attractions in scenic Snowdonia.

10/10 Excellent

This was an exceptionally well presented and extremely welcoming place.

The owners made extensive efforts to help us locate the address and made it even more welcoming by erecting numerous sets of Christmas lights and an unusual Christmas tree. The battery powered lights had all been switched on and added to the welcoming feel. Everything supplied was clean, fresh and even tea and coffee making facilities were provided. Thank you for a lovely short break.

This cottage has WOW factor in our opinion.

It has beautiful part exposed slate wall interior exposed in places. The furnishings are extremely comfortable and on a cold dark wintry evening the wood burner (easy to light) is fabulous. Overall, an extremely comfortable cottage which was exceptionally clean on arrival.
