The historic market town of Pickering is just 6 miles away, home to the North Yorkshire Moors steam train - you can park your car, board the train, and sit back and relax as it chugs its way through some 18 miles of glorious countryside, a journey you will never forget. Whitby is approximately a 13-mile drive along beautiful country roads, famed for its connections with Captain James Cook, a colourful harbour yachting marina, the imposing abbey ruins and St Mary’s Church. It is where Bram Stoker discovered Count Dracula and the town is renowned for the folk, music festivals and Gothic weekends. The heather-clad moors of North Yorkshire are a delight – discover small villages tucked away deep in the valleys, where you will find many quaint little tea rooms, inns and restaurants in and around this area, serving some of Yorkshires finest cuisine, with one just a mile from Rawcliffe House at Newton-on-Rawcliffe. The market towns of Malton, Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside still host weekly markets. Historic homes, halls and castles are in abundance in this area with Castle Howard, Duncombe Hall, Sewerby Hall and Gardens and not forgetting, the 12th century castle ruins in Pickering which are all worth a visit.
