This detached, four bedroom house is situated on the main street of the quiet hamlet of Barvas. Visit Stornoway, the capital of Lewis with it’s many attractions (Castle Grounds, museum, harbour, restaurants and shopts) and only minutes away from the Clach An Trushel Standing Stones and the Whalebone Arch. Situated on the atlantic coast of Lewis at the crossroads north to the Butt of Lewis, you can enjoy a day out in Stornoway or visit some of the island’s beautiful beaches, with many other historical sights within easy reach. Visit the Blackhouse in Arnol and experience how Crofters used to live and work until the early 20th Century.
Stop at the Norse Mill and kiln on your way to Dun Carloway, an Iron Age Broch, and then head on to the beautiful, renowned Callanish Standing Stones and Visitor Centre. For young guests, there is a small playpark a 5-minute walk down the road, or go for a spin up to Ness to visit the lighthouse at the spectacular coastline, and spend an afternoon in the lovely playpark in the dunes. Stop at Clach an Trushal, the tallest standing stone in Scotland, on your way north. In Barvas, there’s a local service station, where you can top up your car and get some basic shopping including hot snacks Monday to Friday mornings, a post offce, and also a hairdressers. In Barvas itself, you can find the Church of Scotland, place of the great revival in 1949.
Whatever the time of year you come to visit the island, nature won’t disappoint. Spot amazing wildlife, experience the beautiful scent of machair flowers in the summer, hear the sounds of the corncrake or, if you come for an autumn break, lookout for the Aurora Borealis as it creates spectacular night skies to the north.
The cottage has a twin and a single bedroom upstairs, with a bathroom with overhead shower. On the ground floor there are another two double bedrooms and a shower room with walk-in shower. There’s also a kitchen/dining room leading out to the back garden with views over the crofts and a cosy living area with a wood burner. Beach 2 miles.

Barvas is ideally located to visit all the sights along the West coast, reach up to the Butt of Ness or head into Stornoway with its cafés, restaurants, and shops.

We are a small, family-run business and want our guests to enjoy their stay with us. The cottage has been a labour of love and is renovated to a lovely standard and will feel like your home from home. We have several returning guests for a reason!
