About the host
Hosted by Susannah Adlington
My name is Susannah Adlington and I am a portrait artist living in Hampshire, England with my husband Michael. My father’s family have had Irish connections for several hundred years, and my parents bought Westcove House in the early 60s … since then four generations of our family have been enjoying holidays here – we just love the place and feel sure that you would too. Indeed many of our guests return to Westcove time and time again – something which we view as the highest form of praise!
Why they chose this property
This building is a traditional 18th century stone cottage, originally built for farm workers working on the Westcove Estate. After years of being used as a workshop we recently converted Garden Cottage to a high standard. It now consists of a high spacious living room with kitchen, dining area, a wood burning stove and large patio doors opening south to a stone terrace and magnificent views over the Kenmare Estuary. There are 3 bedrooms - a twin and a single with a shared shower room downstairs and a twin with its own shower room upstairs.
What makes this property unique
Although in the grounds of Westcove House, the cottage is totally secluded and makes an idyllic retreat - especially during quieter months. In summer, open the doors onto the south facing terrace overlooking the sea and enjoy a meal cooked on the built-in barbecue. During winter you can enjoy the warm glow of the wood-burning stove whilst looking through the large patio doors at the grazing Soay sheep and the ever-changing light glistening over the sea and the mountains of Beara beyond.
