Relax at Our River Retreat

Come to the Northwoods and enjoy the Lake George area. Relax in this secluded 4 bedroom, 2 bath sprawling ranch. Marvel at the beauty of nature with river views from the front deck or get up close and personal on the private dock. Canoes and paddle boat provided to our guests as a courtesy. At night make s'mores and share stories at the campfire. This vacation spot is sure to create cherished, life-long memories. Conveniently located minutes from the Northway and even more convenient is the general store - Crossroads - being literally "over the hill".

You can relax and let the stress melt away on the private, wooded property. Or if exploration and adventure is in your blood, a 20-minute drive will bring you to Natural Stone Bridges & Caves, Adirondack Extreme, whitewater rafting, Lake George Village, Bolton Landing, Schroon Lake and countless other fun spots. If hiking is your thing, then the Chester Challenge is a must do.

Firewood bundles are $7 per basket or $15 per leveled u-shaped holder. We do employ the use of security cameras to monitor the well being of our property. Our guests privacy is very important to us as well as the security of our property. If a guest would like a screenshot of the cameras view, I would be happy to send one.

Load and start the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights
Please place any dirty linens in laundry bags located in the deck box on the side deck. Make sure to place full laundry bags back in deck box so they may get picked up by laundry service.
Please deposit all trash into garbage bins at end of driveway.
Please sign the guest book and like our Facebook page River Retreat Chestertown. Thanks for your patronage.

The Great Escape

Our family had a great time here. So much to enjoy on the property and the surrounding area. The property was clean and spacious, and every effort was made to make it welcoming. Would definitely recommend to others. Hated to leave.

It was perfect for our group which included two people with mobility problems. Not handicapped accessible, per se, but manageable. Host was very helpful throughout our stay and we’d welcome the chance to stay there again in the future!

Great location. Owner always quick to respond to questions. We brought our kayaks and had plenty of places to go. Close to North Creek where we did the Revolution Rail and North Creek whitewater rafting co. Highly recommend both.

What can I say? This out-of-the-way place was absolutely spectacular… Close to the river for some nice fishing and relaxation and a fire pit and deck that we thoroughly enjoyed every single night… The house was clean, plenty of room and was the ideal spot for our Schroon lake vacation. Dan was very responsive and always available to answer questions about anything to do with the house. Its location was right off the highway and there was a fantastic little Crossroads deli that had a little bit of everything. We would definitely rent this house again!

Restful ADK getaway

Great location,(private lot on the river, 20 min drive to Lake George) very clean and comfortable cottage. Dan,the owner, was easily accesible for any questions. 4 good size ,well- decorated bedrooms-the 3 we stayed in all had comfortable sleep number beds. We enjoyed hanging out on the dock,fishing and kayaking on the River. The weather was 90+ during our stay having A/C in the cottage was awesome.

Very nice home with an attentive owner.

We stayed in the home for a week. We were very impressed with the overall condition, amenities and general layout. The property is tucked away in a very nice setting in the woods that’s not to far away from town/supplies. It is also situated on a river with a dock and small boats available for use.The owner was very helpful and accommodating. We heartily recommend this property to anyone who wants to enjoy a trouble free vacation in a well equipped family home.

Great House

This was a great location and house. Lots of room for everyone. Beds great! Just as nice as the pictures. Only issue was the dock on the river, ladder was rotted off, had to walk in the mud to get back to shore. yuck! Easy fix though.

Peaceful Retreat

Everything we needed was on premises, owners accommodating and always available if you need anything. The pictures do not to this place justice. The river was amazing, peaceful and secluded. The upgraded firepit was very nice with cheap large bundles of firewood. Beds were very comfortable, everything was neat and clean. Central air was handy on our first day. Boats, tubes, games...I could go on and on. Our new favorite place to be.

Annual Girls Getaway

Very nice home in a lovely setting. We really enjoyed the firepit and used it all but one night. The house was clean and well stocked, and well taken care of. The sleep number beds are very comfortable. Dan checked in on us the next morning after check in just to see how we were doing. He was also very prompt to answer any questions we had. It is conveniently located and not far from many attractions. Hardly any mosquitoes so we could sit out on the deck and enjoy the beautiful weather. Would recommend this property.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay and the house was perfect. I really like how well thought out the grounds were. The home had a very secluded feel but was only a short trail hike to the Crossroads general store. The supermarket was also only a 5 minute drive away, which isn't always the case. We also appreciated the canoes and supplies available. Dan was a great communicator made sure we had what we neededat each phase of our stay. You can tell the Schick family has a lot of memories in this house and take good care of it. It's not a rental-only home.

Wish we could have stayed longer!!

My husband and I brought our two sons and their 3 best friends for a 3 night stay. What an amazing time had by all! We lucked out with such wonderful weather, no mosquitos (!!!) and such a beautiful and smartly laid out property. I wish photos could convey the absolute beauty and the feeling you get when you are here, because truly everything about this place was perfect. The large deck has a clear sight to the dock (brilliant) and the walk to the dock itself is a few minutes. Couldn't have asked for a better set up. The provision of canoes, kayak, paddleboat provided hours of endless entertainment for all of us. Dan has clearly thought through every detail of this house and it shows. I think we will have to make this an annual getaway!
