About this property

FIVE STAR CABIN ON YELLOWSTONE RIVER!!! THE GRIZZLY DEN CABIN on YNP Riverfront

The sound of the Yellowstone River lulls you to sleep while visions of trout dance at the end of your line...you wake up and it's not a dream-you are really there!!!

This wonderful and spacious cabin is right on the Yellowstone River, just minutes away from Yellowstone National Park and the Roosevelt Arch entry at the north entrance to YNP, and close to Mammoth Hot Springs, mountain biking and all the wildlife you can imagine.

The Grizzly Den Cabin on the Yellowstone Riverfront is self-contained with wilderness furnishings in the living area, crisp linens, towels, books, SMART TV (must have your own access codes for Netflix and the like). WIFI access, washer & dryer, a complete fully-stocked kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, range, regular coffeemaker, coffee and teas, spices and sauces, an outdoor gas grill and a wonderful covered patio for relaxing after a day of hiking, horseback riding or rafting on the Yellowstone River. Restaurants and local shopping are within ten minutes driving distance and Chico Hot Springs Spa & fine restaurant are a half hour away. Or just enjoy a BBQ on the patio, a marshmallow roast at the shared fire pit or a relaxing stroll down our rural (gravel) road, away from the noises of the city.

This Yellowstone cabin is a delightful place from which to navigate your Yellowstone National Park vacation, and you can even walk to the park directly from our driveway, only (approx) 1500 feet away. The Roosevelt Arch (North Entrance is 4.5 miles from the cabin). Access to the cabin is via a gravel road, maintained by Yellowstone National Park & Park County. This road can be rough at times and recommend adjusting driving speed to accommodate road condition.

Just under 48 miles to Livingston, and 1 1/2 hours from Bozeman Airport, the location is convenient yet very private, despite the other cabins on the property. Feedback, both in our guest book and online, for our cabin has been consistently wonderful, with our most recent guests saying our 'river home, not really a cabin, was over the top!'

Please join us for your Yellowstone National Park and cabin on the river vacation. Discover how comfortable and luxurious you can feel in the tranquility of the Montana experience!

We do occasionally see bears, mountain lions, wolves, bison and rattlesnakes on the property and we frequently have deer and elk, especially in the spring and fall. The property does have exterior cameras to for the protection and safety of our property and guests. Many times the elk will eat right outside the patio and bed down for the day. Please do not approach or feed any of the wildlife. You should always maintain 25 yards distance between elk, deer & bison and 100 yards from bears, wolves and mountain lions.

We do recommend if you are walking on the island, in the vicinity, on/off trails or along the river bank that you always carry bear spray which can be purchased at local gas stations, convenience stores and grocery stores.

Cabin was perfect. Very spacious. Much more spacious than we expected. Great river front view from the patio. Treated to an elk herd river crossing the first evening there within 50 yards of the cabin. Perfect stay and we loved the location. WiFi service was weak but who cares your at Yellowstone. The only thing I would change is that the property management needs to have a trash dumpster on site instead of have you haul it 2 miles away BUT I would not stop us from staying there again. It was a wonderful stay.

We were pleasantly surprised by this cabin! The setting is amazing, this cabin fronts the Yellowstone River, and we spent much time on the covered porch taking in the views and visits by the neighborhood elk herd. The cabin itself has many comfortable amenities from the bedrooms, bathrooms and comfortable beds to the well-equipped kitchen. Upon arrival, we found the cabin clean, updated, and ready for our stay. The hosts kept in very good contact with us about our stay, and the VRBO website was very accurate in the cabin description and photos. This cabin was very close to Gardiner, and the northern entrance to Yellowstone. We would definitely consider staying at this cabin again.

Perfect location!

Our family of four stayed at The Grizzly Den for 2 nights while we toured the northern parts of Yellowstone. We couldn’t believe how close we were to the North Entrance while still feeling secluded & quiet. The cabin was clean & comfortable & had everything we needed. Communication with the host was prompt & check in was easy. The host provided a pdf of instructions to print before our trip, which was helpful since we had very limited cell service in the area.

Grizzly Den is great!

Really enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the river located right in the back yard. My family of 4 visited the Grizzly Den on our first trip to Yellowstone. The park is very close. The cabin is spacious and well appointed. Highly recommend it for families.

Great location and peaceful setting

Thankfully this host is very organized and sent everything we needed to know about check in via email before arrival. Because we had absolutely no service in the cabin or in Yellowstone. Loved sitting on the back porch listening to the river and reading in the mornings. I would definitely stay here again.

Serenity on the Yellowstone River

We really enjoyed our stay —this was the final 4 days of a 10 day vacation in the Yellowstone area and it could not have been more perfect—the sound and sight of the River flowing by was soothing for the soul. The Grizzly Den was exceptionally clean and very well stocked. It was the perfect size and layout for 4 adults. Wild life sightings were great, a float trip down the River was fantastic, and we absolutely loved the town of Gardiner. Thanks for the hospitality, Tammy! We can’t wait to visit again!

Well-appointed cabin in excellent location

This is a clean, spacious, very well supplied cabin. It is in a community of cabins in a beautiful location on the Yellowstone River. The cabins are somewhat close together, but they are constructed in a way that preserves privacy. They are in a somewhat remote area of grasslands, mountains, elk and antelope, yet only 10-15 minutes from the nice little town of Gardiner, MT and the entrance to Yellowstone NP. There are several good restaurants in Gardiner, as well as a small but well-stocked grocery store. We would certainly stay there again.

Elk at the back door

If you like being somewhat remote and in the middle of wildlife, this is the cabin for you. We were able to fish the Yellowstone River running right behind the cabin with no problem. There was easy access to the river. While the guys were fishing, we were sitting on the porch one night and an elk walked right by us. There is a four mile drive down a gravel road to get to the cabin, but we were able to see wildlife all around it. Beds were comfortable and cabin had all the basic needs. Very relaxing.

Grizzly Den

Overall it was a good stay. There were a few disappointments. We couldn’t enjoy coffee on the patio in the mornings as the sprinklers went off at 7am, ran for an hour, and sprayed onto the patio where the seating was. The grass needed to be mowed making it a bit uneasy walking in it as the snakes were active. We were four units down from the fire ring even though the listing made it seem like the fire ring was outside our door. The biggest disappointment was having to carry the garbage to the airport some 7-8 miles away. Due to the fact my truck was packed completely full under my bed cover we had to make two trips, one on our last day before we packed, and one on our way out with the garbage generated our last night. There has to be a better option. I’m glad I had a truck and not have to put stinky garbage in a car. The online listing did not mention the garbage issue.

The home was extremely well appointed and the decor was fabulous! The kitchen was stocked well and the rooms were all very comfortable. There are 2 pages of directions and instructions on exactly how to use literally everything in the house so the owners expectations of renters are very high and specific. We are good with that. There was a problem with 2 hair dryers in the home, one did not work at all and one blew cold air only. I wrote the owner who was out of the country and thanked her for any assistance to resolve this problem. We were told that there wasn't anyone locally to replace the dryer. The owner instructed me to go to town and buy one if I needed it, and she would repay. There was absolutely no concern or responsibility taken for the inconvenience. I was told that it was not her job to provide vanity tools and she didn't think it was listed on the amenities list in VRBO - which it clearly was. It's a hair dryer - not to be confused with an emergency, however, we have stayed in VRBO's around the world many times for over 25 years and this was a very unfriendly, unhelpful correspondence. This is not what we have ever encountered before. Evidently the high expectations for this business is quite one sided. We will not rent here again.

Yellowstone National Park has always held a special place in my heart. I've been visiting the park on an annual basis since 1999 (sometimes several times a year) and each trip is unique and special in its own right.

In 2008, I brought my Dad to Yellowstone over the Thanksgiving holiday and the weather was amazing...cool & crisp but not cold and unbearable. We hiked for several hours every day and had the time of our lives. One morning we set out on an 8-mile hike. It had snowed a couple of inches the previous night and 1/2 mile into the hike we discovered we were following the tracks of a large grizzly bear. For the next 3 miles we walked in the footprints left by the great bear, armed only with bear spray, but never did see the bruin. Seeing my Dad's face light up when he realized the tracks were not very old and that we were not 'alone in the wilderness' was priceless. Because of that trip, I realized I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my Dad, enjoying moments like those while we still had the opportunity. Life is so incredibly short!!!

Then in 2012, my entire family was able to join me in Yellowstone to celebrate my birthday. It was in that moment I decided this is where my heart is and in order to experience more lasting memories with my entire family I needed to have a place for them to call their 'home-away-from-home'.

Together, my Dad & I purchased this cabin as place to relax, watch the wildlife, fish the Yellowstone River and most importantly build more lasting memories. Being able to give my Dad the gift of owning a cabin means so much to me.

As a Vietnam Vet and someone who grew up without modern conveniences (ie: running water & indoor plumbing), owning a cabin was never on his radar. My Dad is the most kind-hearted, caring person I know and he would go the extra mile for those he cares about. Being able to give back to him was a dream come true and helping to make his dreams come true is what life is all about!!

Why they chose this property

We chose this cabin because of the proximity to Yellowstone National Park and the fact that it is located right on the Yellowstone River. We can literally fish right from the banks outside the cabin and grill the fish minutes later while enjoying the evening from the patio...all without leaving the cabin.

We named the cabin, 'The Grizzly Den' for a couple of reasons, 1) Grizzlies are my passion (I've been studying them since 1999) and seeing them in the wild is a most special and unforgetable moment (for anyone), and 2) on our trip to purchase the cabin we were fortunate enough to locate a grizzly den high on a mountain slope and after watching through our scope for several hours the sow emerged with two cubs-of-the-year. Talk about an amazing moment!!!

Also, the Park boundary is less than 1500 feet from the driveway and the North Entrance to Yellowstone is only 4-miles away. We wanted something close to the park but not overly commercialized or populated. This cabin was close, convenient and had the space we needed.

With 2 bedrooms (4 queen beds) and 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining area, living room and covered patio, we knew our needs were covered. Being able to share this property with others is exciting. Each trip to Yellowstone is different and offers a whole new experience. Whether you are coming for adventure, hiking, sight-seeing, fishing, wildlife viewing or photography this is the place to be!!

It was also important to me that we had a cabin where wildlife were welcome. Occasionally we will have bison, deer or elk in the yard and rarely a grizzly bear.

What makes this property unique

The unique benefits of The Grizzly Den Cabin on the Yellowstone Riverfront include the amazing views of Electric Peak and the Devils Slide. Located right on the Yellowstone Riverfront our guests are able to fish directly from the banks outside the cabin. You have the wonderful, serene setting watching the sunrise from behind the mountain to the east as it lights up the valley and Sepulcher Mountain.

Get up early to enjoy elk & mule deer grazing just off the patio. We can't guarantee they will be there but most guests are fortunate to enjoy their presence at least once throughout their stay.

For those that enjoy walking, the Park boundary is just 1500 from the driveway and only 4 miles from the North Entrance to YNP at Gardiner via a gravel road.

Enjoy the quite, tranquil setting listening to the Yellowstone River flow by. Watch rafters enjoy the river as they float by the cabin. Fish the Yellowstone River (accessible various times of the year - just feet from the cabin door).

The Grizzly Den cabin is open and available to reserve year-round and we encourage our guests to visit the Yellowstone National Park during different times of the year as each experience offers something new and different.

You will love staying at this Yellowstone cabin known as The Grizzly Den on the Yellowstone Riverfront!
