The Scottish Borders is also known for its historic castles and ‘big houses’ so if you fancy learning more about the history of this area you can visit Floors Castle & Gardens in Kelso and Abbotsford, The Home of Sir Walter Scott in Melrose both sitting proudly on the banks of the River Tweed and less than 20 miles away. The Kielder Forest (24 miles) is perfect for long strolls with a picnic in the sunshine. For keen golfers, there are local golf clubs in Jedburgh (6 miles) and Minto (2 miles). For a day out Kelso horse races (17 miles), and slightly further afield Edinburgh (50 miles).
