About this property
Unplug, relax and rejeuvenate in our tiny house featuring off-the-grid living
The Space
This 'tiny house' has all the comforts of home contained within a s a 400 sf off the grid mobile cabin on approximately 10 private acres with spectacular mountain views, lavender fields, oak woodlands and a seasonal creek.
Electricity is provided entirely by the sun from a 2k watt solar array with battery for nights and cloudy days. Water (potable) is provided to the tiny house from a private well. The stove, tankless hot water heater and furnace are fueled by propane. There is a window AC unit and ceiling fans (both fueled by the solar system) to keep cool on hotter days.
The full kitchen comes complete with an oven range, coffee pot, toaster, a microwave, blender, a full sized refrigerator, and is stocked with a complete set of pots and pans, knives, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, mugs, wineglasses and flatware etc. The living area and dining nook offer plenty of space for comfortable indoor living.
Outside on the deck you will find a brand new propane grill and outdoor patio table and chairs for outdoor dining along with a hammock for relaxing. A short walk to a clearing with Mountain views you will find 4 Adirondack chairs grouped around a propane fire pit for storytelling and stargazing. Another short walk away is a picnic table and a swing under a majestic oak.
The master bedroom has a queen bed, closets, and cabinets. There is an additional sleeping loft with two twin beds. The sleeping loft ceiling is 4 feet high, so you cannot stand up, but it is high enough for comfortable sleeping.
Take in the mountain views, birdwatch, picnic under the large oak tree, relax in the hammock, star gaze under the Milky Way, chat by the fireside, or skip stones in the seasonal stream within walking distance on the property.
The Surroundings
The home sits on a steep 20 acre parcel with the owner’s main house about a quarter mile up the driveway out of sight and earshot.
We are located about 2.5 miles up Tassajara Road from the Tassajara Road/ Carmel Valley Road intersection, about a 20 minute drive along a winding country road from the quaint Carmel Valley Village with fine dining, cafes, award winning wineries, art galleries, shops, gas, groceries, and other services. Carmel-by-the-Sea and it's beaches is another 25 minutes away (45 minutes total).
Monterey is about a one hour drive away and Andrew Molera State Beach at the north end of Big Sur is about 75 min drive away.
A few miles up Tassajara Road from our property are trailheads to the Los Padres National Forest and the backside of Ventana Wilderness with miles of hiking trails to explore. Further up Tassajara Road (about 14 miles total) is Tassajara Hot Springs. If you would like the adventure of driving a spectacular but very rugged mountain road and soaking in natural Japanese-style hot springs, then consider a day trip in the guest season (April - September). Please visit the San Francisco Zen Center website for more information about this resource. Shuttles are available about a half mile up the road from our gate.
The main home on the property is located about one-eighth of a mile further up the driveway, out of sight and ear shot of the tiny house.
Other Things to Note
Only AT&T wireless service is available at this property. There is no wifi or TV at this time. Parking is available right outside the cabin. Driveway is steep but paved.
