Beautiful views on Lake Michigan
Wonderful views the lake upon entry in the house. The space was great with our family and friends joining us to celebrate our daughter's wedding.
The house was in a great location within 7 miles of Sturgeon Bay to pick up groceries or go to lunch or dinner. The house has a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and has a long stretch of sandy beach to take walks. The kitchen was well supplied with pots and pans to cook dinners for 12 people. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the house.
This is an older property with lots of character that perfectly suited us. The sand beach is gorgeous and perfect for walking. The house is spacious and private. It was cool, but our dog loved the swimming in Lake Michigan. The neighborhood is quiet and our old biking legs appreciated the flatter roads in the area. It is beautiful in Door County and this area along Glidden is one of the most beautiful. Mary and Ray Spangler are great hosts who respond immediately if there is a question or problem. For us this is a five star property and we are already looking forward to coming back here next July.
This house is roomy, very pet friendly, with a nice beachy feel. It has windows absolutely everywhere, showing off all the beautiful views. We’ve been to Door County many times and enjoyed this particular location—quiet and secluded but only minutes from Sturgeon Bay stores. Our two 20-something kids and our mini Aussie dog had plenty of space to decompress after covid restrictions. Mary was great to deal with, flexible and accommodating, very quick to respond. The house has everything you need. Also, importantly for us, the internet was high speed and handled all four of us. We all needed to do some work online and there was never a problem. Highly recommended.
The Lake is our happy place, no matter the season. This is a well-cared-for home. So much is here to make it a home from the stocked kitchen to the cozy bedrooms to the full washer/dryer to the extra soaps in the bathrooms. We loved watching the sunrise and sunset from the indoor patio, the huge windows in the main living room, and the panoramic views from the 2nd floor. We got some wonderful family time with our family of 4 and my parents (grandparent time!) Could’ve even had a friend or two join us! Two great tables to play card/board games and build puzzles. WiFi is also good here and there are card/board games and movies to choose. Mary is very responsive and a great host. We’re seeing about heading back to this home soon! Thank you for this time together in a wonderful place.
We had lots of room for our group. Never did we feel crowded. We had teens & 2 dogs. It was so special to be able to bring our dogs which posed no problem at all. It was extra fun to watch & play with them. We had 4 glorious days of sunshine & play in the water & on the beach with the floatables, frisbee, our dogs, shovels for digging. It was beach day from morning to dinner time. It would have been extra difficult to leave if it hadn't been raining the day we needed to leave.
One morning three of our group even drove to the Green Bay side to get some fishing in.
We had plenty of privacy.
A lovely family gathering by all of us!
Stayed with the family and some friends and their kids in Mary's Beach House for five nights. Ray and Mary were great with the check in, said we could come a little earlier as the cabin was available, even replaced a gas grill that was broken the next day. We got there late Sunday afternoon and immediately hit the beach, which is really the most outstanding feature of the property. We could see the kids playing in the water from the deck and the path is short, maybe 30 feet or so before you hit the sand. Pretty much spent all week on that amazing beach. Sand everywhere, even with the kids rinsing off their feet with the hose next to the house. Hard to keep the sand out, but we tried. There's washer and dryer in the cabin, so we did a lot of laundry. Had to buy beach towels, as there were none. The cabin itself has lots of bedrooms, with a lofted room that has a 360-degree view that is pretty amazing along with a little deck area. Though this space could be a great master suite, it was set up more for kids. Overall, the cabin is feeling it's age and there are a few areas that are perpetually damp and dank, which is just how it is when you have a place right on the beach. Makes it smell like wet cedar, just like my grandparent's cabin. There are lot of dusty cabin-y knick-knacks around (not like the "beach swag" you get from Amazon) and plenty of post-its that let you know what you can and can't do in the house--just like grandma and grandpas.
We loved our stay at Marys Beach House. This is the 2nd year we've stayed here for our annual family vacation. The house is very spacious and clean. Views are stunning and we all loved the beach.
The beach house was roomy and home for our family of 11. Ranging from age 6 to 71! The view of the lake from inside was spectacular! The deck, which overlooks Lake Michigan was so inviting. Our grands spent most days and evenings on the smooth sandy beach or in the lake. (Life jackets of course) Mary & Ray were available if need be:)Already looking forward to next time!
This was our third year, and we enjoyed it as much as we always do. Absolutely the best beach in Door County. The views from the house are stunning. The house is like your grandparent’s well-loved beach house; lots of character. Plenty of rooms for our mini family get-together (7 adults & 1 teen.) The upstairs suite is breathtaking! Coffee on the deck, afternoons on the beach & dinners overlooking the water. Wonderful.
Mary's beach house is like coming home. It is a comfortable rustic place to stay with everything you need to enjoy your time on the beach. The views are breathtaking and the property is accessible. We had a wide range of ages with the oldest of our party being 89. The porch was their favorite perch and the path to the beach was easy enough for them to walk. If you're looking for a place that fits all ages, this is it.

Love the location and home, unhappy other parts of rental
We drove up to the home on the first night at 3:30 p.m. to find a partial tree blocking the driveway and outside toys blown all over. Cleaned it up, never took a picture. House was as expected, perfect for our large family. The beach was easy access great place for walks. Location of home was great as well and close to many attractions. The house was dirty, but we let this go. We realize lake houses get dirty so wrote it off to that. The house was full of ants we kept our food in totes and the ants were also in two of the downstairs bedrooms and a bathroom. We did go buy ant traps which helped in the kitchen but not the other areas. We love the house for our family so let it all go. Had not tried to communicate with owner as I had wrote a message on May 15th, never got a response. The worst part of the stay was the last full day of trip. Owner arrived at backdoor of house before 7:00 a.m. This is our vacation, and we paid what we felt was a large sum of money for this rental only to be bothered at 7:00 a.m. and he did not call first. Our daughter was breastfeeding her baby in the sunroom enjoying the view and the next thing she sees is a stranger. He showed up to say neighbor complained as we had small fire on the beach the night before and listened to music were in house by 9:45 p.m. as quiet time is 10:00 p.m. The owners lack of courtesy to call and acting like we were in the wrong as we followed the rules was hard to take.
Beautiful home. This house has a wonderful homey, comfortable feel. We were a party of 11 and there was enough room for all including a large dining room table to play family games on. The house was very well stocked with all necessities and more. Location was great. Short trip to store, yet located on private beachfront lot. We had a group of all ages and all had a wonderful time.
We’ve been before & will come again as long as Ray & Mary continue to rent! The house is a little dated & full of personal, whimsical touches - not your sterile corporate vrbo stay. But the beach is an unmatched feature among door county rentals. We adore this property and were sad to go. Already looking forward to next year!

Family Getaway
You could not find a better location with beautiful views of Lake Michigan. Plenty of room for our family of 11 adults. The property could use new bath towels and bed linens/comforters. Overall, great place to spend a week in Door County exploring.

About the host
Hosted by Mary and Ray Spangler
Ray and I are retired teachers and have owned the property since the summer of 92. There are two previous owners. The first built a 3 bedroom 1 bath in the early 60s; the second added a den and bedroom and bath as well as a deck and screened in sun room in the 80s We started renting in 93 and did an addition to the property in 2003 adding a glassed in sunroom and a 1/2 bath downstairs and an upper story with full bath, large bedroom with 2 beds and mini kitchen: fridge, sink and microwave.
Why they chose this property
I walked down the main hallway and saw the beach and fell in love.
What makes this property unique
The house has 120 ft of sand beach, is quiet and only 6 miles from Sturgeon Bay with its shopping and fine restaurants. Pottowatomee and White Fish Dunes State Parks are nearby and very worth a visit as well as are the other towns and parks on the peninsula about 20 minutes North.
