About this property
Summer's End SALE- 100Acre Private WATERFRONT Home- NatureLovers Paradise&Views!
Mockhorn Bay Retreat is an exclusive 100-acre seaside property with modern home and complete privacy, 180° Atlantic views of some of the most scenic Barrier Islands across Mockhorn Bay. Stunning sunrises and often romantic, memorable full-moon views awe our guests! Read our stellar reviews including comments of the amenities and cleanliness of the home. You have to wander to see another house. The perfect compliment to busy Cape Charles.
This well-appointed home has many large windows to showcase the water views, a pond frequented by migratory and our many species of mid-Atlantic coastal birds year-round. Primary bedroom with water view, walk-in closet, and private full bath; second bedroom with large closet and adjacent full bath, plus an additional den that is sleeper-friendly. Both showers have ADA accessories.
Spacious open dining and living area, large open kitchen well-stocked with many ammenities and small appliances (see reviews), and laundry/pantry/mud room off of main foyer.
Screened porch with unobstructed views of the water, old-growth trees and pasture/yard; dining table with six chairs plus two comfortable rocking chairs for relaxing, reading, birdwatching, etc. Small dock on pond with four Adirondack chairs near the pond for bird-watching and water viewing. Magnificant star gazing most nights.
Ideally located in a private, tranquil location where our guests often prefer to relax and enjoy the abundant wildlife, nature and solitude. When available, there are sea kayaks (WOL required) with a dock and ramp for launching and walking trails onsite for our guests to enjoy. Endless photography options. There are many nearby recreational choices, most about 15 minutes away: 4 convenient boat ramps (2 access the Chesapeake Bay and 2 access the Atlantic seaside). There is plenty of room to park your boat trailer onsite and take advantage of fresh-water rinse hose; close-by are marinas, fueling options, bait shops, fishing charters, and seafood retailers if your fishing luck is running low!
A short drive away is the quaint Town of Cape Charles - with its long public beach and public fishing pier; restaurants and watering holes; art galleries and shops hosting works of our many accomplished local artists; boutiques, antique and gift shops, etc. Kiptopeke State Park with it's boat ramps, parking and popular beach is also a short drive away (State park fees apply).
There are numerous nearby services including a full-service grocery (which is about 10 minutes from the property). For nature enthusiasts, the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge and the Fisherman Island National Wildlife Refuge are minutes away. Day-trippers' choices include Chincoteague Island, NASA Wallops Flight Facility [you may get lucky during your stay and witness a launch!!], or catch the seasonal Ferry to unique, historic Tangier Island. The possibilities for fun are endless!!!
The location is excellent - around 10 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (designated “One of Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World” ), plus easy access to Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads area.
Our Lower Eastern Shore area is a safe and family-friendly place - where people smile and say 'Hello' when passing on the sidewalk or grocery aisle and are happy to help you with directions, suggestions, changing a tire, etc.
I have a high standard for cleanliness and sanitation in Mockhorn Bay Retreat to protect our guests. Unlike the standard same-day turnover, I block off an extra day between rentals to allow for thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the house.

About the host
Hosted by Roger & Jeanne Davis

We were blue-water sailors who love that we settled here on 100 acres on Virginia's Eastern Shore . We live nearby and have successfully listed a VRBO property in Puerto Rico and Virginia for many years. Our goal is always to do as much as we can to provide the best vacation possible for our guests!
Why they chose this property
We have moved more times that I care to remember - from building on undeveloped land to purchasing fixer-uppers. That all changed when we moved here, and we do not plan to leave this amazing spot until we must. Our friends and family love to visit. The Lower Eastern Shore is a hidden gem, but word is getting around!
What makes this property unique
Modern, Clean Home with many amenities on 100 acres of private wildlife 'preserve' with short drive to beaches, boat ramps, Town of Cape Charles and services. A paradise for bird, wildlife, nature, beach and water enthusiasts!
