About this property

Historic Seaside Cottage with its own beaches overlooking Penobscot Bay..

The Gables is a historic cottage built in the mid to late 1800's and has always been family owned. The 2 plus acre property is located on a very quiet road surrounded by cottages built by our great great grandfather. The Gables comes with its own private beaches, plenty of lawn for yard games, a hammock for napping and a back porch for watching sailboats cruise the bay. Bring your own kayak, paddle boards, or row boat to get out on the water yourself. The island is friendly for road bikes if you have one you want to bring. Just down the road from the property there is a playground and tennis courts. Be on the lookout for pop-up yoga classes as well.
If you give us a heads up we can put you in touch with a local lobsterman for fresh off the boat lobster or mussels.
The Gables is great for families, couples or the solo traveler wanted to find some quite solitude.
There are two stores on the island for food, a bakery, and a sandwich/ice cream shop. In addition there are a number of gift shops for souvenirs.
For the yachting enthusiast the cottage has its own 6 ton mooring just off the beach.
Be sure and check the ferry schedule--see photos. More information at town of islesboro website.

I grew up here on Islesboro and I am happy to still call this island my home. I ran off as a young adult to sail the oceans of the world on private yachts and current hold a 500 ton masters captain's license. I have set my sea boots aside to return home to be closer to family and co-own the family business, Clayton Builders, with my brother Mark. When I am not hosting "The Gables", I am building and restoring island homes. I still love getting out of the water and any free moment is spent cruising the local waters.

Why they chose this property

My great great grandfather built this place and surrounding homes.
