This VRBO is in the best location ever. During our 2 day / 2 night stay we visited 9 wineries, while spending evenings at Havisham Bourbon Bar!For all Wineries located on the “Highway 127 Corridor” this is the best place ever!

Great Location

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful place. Peaceful and quiet, so very clean and cozy. We loved the fact that there were so many kitchen and bathroom essentials. Everything we needed was provided. You can feel the care and thoughtfulness that has been put into the home. Highly recommend. Beth was a wonderful host!

Absolutely wonderful stay!

My husband and I travel a lot, and this was by far the cleanest vrbo and kindest host we have ever experienced! The air conditioning worked great, and the location of the house was tucked away in a quiet area behind a vineyard. The home is very well kept, and has everything you need. Beth is a wonderful and kind host, they let us arrive a bit early and check out a bit late too! The beds were very comfortable, and the wifi worked great. Highly recommend this place!

Lovely! The house was everything we hoped for. Plenty of room inside and outside. Great setting for sitting outside, sipping some wine and relaxing at the end of the day, or sitting inside wayching movies when it stormed outside. Extremely clean, big bedrooms and bathrooms.

Home away from home

All of the small thoughtful touches really made our stay at Betty’s Vineyard House special. The house is completely updated in all ways, kitchen, baths, bedrooms, beautiful furniture and decorations. Due to coronavirus we choose to prepare all our meals at the house and the kitchen had everything we needed to make great meals. The location is great for the wineries and we explored Shawnee National Forest along with a few other places such as Little Grand Canyon. What a perfect few days!

Birthday get away

We wanted a quick get away to celebrate a friend’s birthday. This was the perfect spot! The house was clean and exactly as described. It was very comfortable for two couples. The kitchen was fully equipped, including a good selection of coffee and creamers. The covered front porch was a great place to visit, enjoy our morning coffee or evening drink. It was also a good spot to wait out a morning rain before getting on our motorcycles to explore. The wineries close by stop food service earlier in the evening than we expected. We did not prepare for that our first evening and had to turn to DoorDash to bail us out. We planned much better the next day! Picked up food from a local grocery store in Anna early in the day. After visiting a winery for lunch and music, and stopping at the nearby Bourbon bar, we headed back to the house to stay in for the evening.

This property was amazing! It’s located near several local wineries and state parks. The home itself it’s very clean perfectly organized. Beth was a top notch host offering very helpful information about the area and was extremely quick to respond. Check in was a breeze using the keypad lock.

great location for exploring the Shawnee Forest area

Cozy property, but more than capable to support a family of 4 and our dog as we made it our 'basecamp' between local state park hikes. Very clean and well laid out with full kitchen amenities, and an awesome little winery and tasting room literally next door...which we sat outside and played bocce with the dog including.

Comfortable and Quiet

The home was as described. It was comfortable, quiet and well maintained. The living area and each of the two bedrooms have separate AC/heating so that everyone can be comfortable. The location is excellent for visiting wineries along the wine trail. We would return!

Amazing Location in Southern Illinois

This is the best location to stay in Southern Illinois, the Shawnee National Forest, and the Southern Illinois Wine Trail. The house is literally ON a vineyard! Close to 2 other wineries, Rendelman and Flamm Orchards, and great hiking (Pomona Natural Bridge, Giant City, and Little Grand Canyon). The place was spotless, had tons of kitchen amenities, and the beds were comfy. Host was super responsive. We will be staying here EVERY time we come to Southern Illinois.

Host profile image
Betty is our grandmother and the matriarch behind the formation of Alto Vineyards. Together with our grandfather, Guy, she was instrumental in starting the wine and grape industry in Southern Illinois. Her proudest achievement, though, was raising a big, beautiful family of 7 children that has now grown to include 18 grandchildren and 8 (and counting) great-grandchildren. Despite all of the commotion and hassle of caring for—and especially feeding!—such a large family, Betty always welcomed guests into her home. Whether they were Guy’s SIU colleagues, friends of her children, or students and visitors from all over the world, all had a place at the table and were made to feel at home. Betty was a patient, gentle, selfless and generous woman who saw so much beauty in the world and often remarked about how every living thing was extraordinary in its own way.

Why they chose this property

We built this home in 2010 and lived here until we "grew out of it" in 2015. It has been very well kept--we still love it and visit often! When we decided to open it up to guests, we named it after Grandma Betty in her honor and memory. While you are here visiting, we hope that you are able to relax and experience both the hospitality and the awe of our natural surroundings in the Shawnee National Forest that Betty shared with those around her every day!

Besides the location--super private but still just a short walk to the winery or the Village of Alto Pass--the home boasts an oversized back deck perfect for enjoying a glass of wine, cocktail, or beer with friends or just taking in the beauty of the surrounding forest. Prefer a view of the vineyard? Move around to the front porch rocking chairs to relax with a cup of coffee or tea as the wind breezes through the vines. Inside, sleek polished concrete floors and a bright interior ensure your stay will be clean and comfortable!
