About this property

Tiny Home in the Texas Hill Country - The Green Casita on Caballo Creek

This tiny house and its twin (The Blue Casita) offer luxurious Texas Hill Country accommodations that are easily accessible yet feel a world away from urban life. Reserve one Casita for your party of up to 5, or both if you need space for 10. Enjoy the Casitas’ private refuge on 55 acres surrounded by hill country views with the comforts of an upscale hotel. You may spot deer, turkey, rabbits, roadrunners and even fox from your deck.

Each Casita offers an open space with soaring ceilings that create an airiness not often found in a tiny house. The main floor features a queen bed and the loft (accessible by a ladder) offers both a full bed and a twin bed. The living room has a 60 inch Smart TV. The house provides wifi throughout. The kitchen features a dining table, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, electric burner, and a retro style SMEG refrigerator. Dishes, pans and utensils are included. If you prefer cooking outside, take advantage of the full-size pellet grill on your covered deck. Because of the ladder to the open loft above, the Casitas are not recommended for walking children under 6.

If you do choose to venture out of your refuge, you will find yourself conveniently located near many activities and attractions. The Casitas at Caballo Creek are situated in the middle of wineries from Fredericksburg to Driftwood, offering the perfect home base for serious wine tasting. Similarly the area is home to many distilleries and breweries.

The area is well known for its abundance of parks and swimming holes including Pedernales Falls State Park (a 5 minute drive), Hamilton Pool, Riemers Ranch Park, Blanco State Park and more.

Each conveniently located only about 20 minutes away, the towns of Dripping Springs and Johnson City boast a variety of offerings. You will find restaurant options from casual Mexican food to fine dining. Shopping includes boutiques and antiques. Dripping Springs has been called “The Wedding Capital of Texas”, and the Casita is conveniently located near a host of wedding venues. Johnson City is home to the Science Mill for children, The Exotic Resort Zoo and of course, the Lyndon Johnson Boyhood Home. If you’ld like to explore even further, you’ll be only about 45 minutes from Fredericksburg and an hour from downtown Austin.

This recently constructed property (completed in September, 2018) joins the family of vacation rentals comprising the Casitas at Caballo Creek Ranch. About the host

After a career in the software industry and raising 2 children, I left Austin to move full time to Caballo Creek Ranch, about a mile up the road from my new guest houses. In looking around for what to do next, I chose to combine my interests in travel, the Texas Hill Country, and home decor into a vacation rental business. I began in 2017 by redecorating an existing house with some of my favorite artwork and furniture from my previous home in Austin. I found myself taking great pleasure in seeing guests enjoy my property and decided to build the Green and Blue Casitas in 2018 as vacation rentals.

Besides managing vacation rentals, I raise cattle, sheep and horses for resale at Caballo Creek Ranch.

Why they chose this property

Having lived in Austin since 1978, I have long considered the Austin area to be home. In the 1990’s I was able to achieve my lifetime dream of owning horses and went looking for ranch property accessible to Austin. Now that I live here full time, I find this location perfect. It is just far enough from Austin to maintain its rural feel but close enough to take advantage of all Austin has to offer.

What makes this property unique

This lodging is a reflection of my personal taste and more importantly, of all the conveniences I look for when traveling. I have tried to attend to the details that I look for in a hotel — counter and storage space in the bathrooms, a complete coffee offering, spa-quality bathroom amenities, clean and comfortable bedding and of course, wifi access. But what distinguishes the Casita from a hotel is that all this comfort is nestled in a secluded and rural setting. For me, it’s the best of both worlds.
