About this property

Mountain Cabin With All The Amenities Of A Home

Two View, a vacation rental cabin in beautiful McDowell County, NC, is aptly named for its stunning views of both the Blue Ridge and South Mountains of western North Carolina.

Built in 2017, Two View is located in Grandview Peaks, a private gated community surrounded by nature at its best. Screened in porches and wrap around decks provide places to relax. Two View is also easily accessible to the quaint towns of Marion, Old Fort, Morganton and bustling Asheville.

Two View is fully furnished for eight (8) with amenities that make it seem like home. The great room with cathedral ceilings and comfortable reclining sofa and chairs has a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and an exit onto a spacious deck. The exterior decking with safety railing surrounds two sides of the house. Four chairs, four rockers, two lounges, a table, and hammock furnish the deck.

Without the glare of city lights, the night sky is spectacular (try the Sky Guide app). When weather turns chilly, the focal point in the great room is a soaring stone chimney with a European style Rumsford fireplace (wood provided). A flat screen TV (Dish Networks) offers 200 stations including Sirius radio. The dining table seats eight and a desk with USB ports provides working space with wireless internet connection (Frontier Communications). Password is posted near router on kitchen bar counter. Access to a screened-in porch for outdoor eating is off the dining area.

The kitchen is fully equipped with abundant cabinets, granite countertops, a bar with two stools, cookware, dishes, utensils, and kitchen linens. The deep stainless-steel sink also has as Insinkerator (hot water dispenser). In addition to the refrigerator, ceramic cook top, oven, microwave, disposal, and dishwasher, many small appliances are included (mixer, blender, crockpot, waffle maker, Mr. Coffee type coffee maker, Keurig coffee maker, pop corn maker and toaster).

An outdoor gas grill and grill utensils are also provided ( guests are responsible for cleaning the grill if they use it). The laundry, adjacent to the kitchen, has large capacity washer and dryer, iron and ironing board, additional cabinets and counter space for folding laundry.

The main floor has two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed and private bathroom with double sink vanity and large, walk-in tiled shower. From windows in the master and the adjacent screened in porch, guests can sip their coffee while watching the sun rise over the South Mountains. The porch holds two upholstered chairs with ottomans and a table. The second bedroom, adjacent to a bathroom with a vessel sink and shower, has a queen size bed. Bed linens and bath towels are provided. Each bedroom has ample closet space with shelving, small dressers and chairs. Each bathroom has a hair dryer.

On the lower level, find two additional bedrooms, bath, and game room. Each bedroom contains a queen size bed, dresser, closet, seating, and ceiling fan. Linens and towels are provided. The downstairs bath has a shower/tub combination. Play an assortment of adult and children's games or cards at a table with four club chairs. French doors from the game room lead onto a patio which faces South Mountain. Patio comforts include a hammock swing, and additional chairs. Extra folding chairs and a card table are stored in the mechanical room.

TWO VIEW IS A NON-SMOKING, PET FREE HOME. All rooms, including the screened in porches, have ceiling fans, overhead lighting, and window screens. Separate thermostats, upstairs and downstairs, control heating and air-conditioning. Water is filtered. The septic system does not accommodate feminine hygiene products or condoms. Motion detectors provide outdoor lighting on all four corners of the home. Starter paper supplies (toilet tissue, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap) are provided but additional supplies are the responsibility of the renter. In addition to the nightly charge, taxes and cleaning fees apply.

Grandview Peaks has 17 miles of beautifully landscaped, winding roads for hiking, biking, or cruising. Seven miles of trails are well maintained (map provided in owner's scrapbook) with Lakeside Trail ending at a small waterfall. Swim, paddle board, kayak, or fish (bring your own equipment and beach towels) in a 20-acre lake with floating platform, beach with roped off area, and deck with Adirondack chairs. Adjacent to the lake, a large covered pavilion has a fireplace, cooking facilities and numerous picnic tables.

Two View is centrally located in a four-county area. Within a one-hour drive, guests can enjoy numerous hiking trails and waterfalls along the Blue Ridge Parkway and South Mountain State Park. Other noteworthy attractions include Mt Mitchell, Biltmore House, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Cavern, Gorge, and Falls, Little Switzerland, Chimney Rock State Park, Lake Lure, and Lake James State Park.

Enjoy shopping, dining, antiquing, wine tasting, gem mining, theater and the arts in nearby Morganton, Marion, Old Fort, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Outdoor enthusiasts can find golfing, boating, fishing, river floats, and zip lining. The owner has compiled an ever-expanding notebook with details on nearby attractions. Feel free to add to it!

Renters are responsible for any damages that occur during their stay and travel/ damage insurance is available through Home Away/ VRBO at time of booking.

Very thoughtful and perfect setting!
We are a family of four adults and we rent a cabin every year for the last 15 years in the mountains for Christmas. This one topped every one so far! The setting was perfect, so well thought out, every detail, to make our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. The house was very clean, it had all the appliances you need to cook with, and more, even two different coffee makers. Firewood was nicely stocked, and had plenty of it! It was effortless, and made our stay truly memorable for the right reasons. Thank you Bill for sharing your home with us, being responsive and truly caring, your efforts did not go unnoticed. Happy New Years

Great Family Time !!
Property was everything it claims to be and more. Spectacular views, beautiful property and everything anyone could want for a sizable gathering. The house is very spacious and very well maintained The kitchen is extremely well stocked. The bathrooms are very clean and towels and toiletries are well kept. The linens in the bedrooms are clean and the place is spick and span. The property offered everything for all ages. I just want to mention that renters should plan in advance when it comes to trash disposal during their stay. Its not on the property premises. Otherwise, everything else was perfect. Thanks for sharing your beautiful house with us. Kumar

Beautiful cabin with the best views. It was very clean and nicely decorated. Furnishings were very comfortable. We visited the Biltmore Estates, Tom Creeks Falls, and Apple Hill Orchard. Ingles grocery was about 20 minutes away. We definitely recommend this cabin to others.

Fantastic House and Views
Pictures of the views don’t do it justice. Amazing location about an hour from Asheville. Great property with all the amenities and a fully stocked kitchen to cool most anything you want. Wood burning fireplace was a bonus. Clean and well maintained. Didn’t need to worry about anything and enjoyed our time together.

I have always believed that everything is possible if : you keep the goal, not the problems, in sight; you are willing to keep grinding until the goal is reached; you are willing to find ways around life's roadblocks; and, you are willing to fix the inevitable mistakes that accompany learning and growing.

Why they chose this property

Our mountain cabin, Two View, is certainly a product of the above stated philosophy. My interest in building a mountain cabin surfaced 35 years ago. As often happens, life's journey kept that dream on the back burner until one night when sleep eluded me. The first response to my internet query - mountain property in western NC - was Grandview Peaks. This community seemed to have all our requisites: gated community, large lots, well landscaped and maintained roads, a vibrant community that valued seclusion, close proximity to small towns, and varied recreational, cultural and sightseeing activities (discussed elsewhere).

Several visits and lot searches led us to Lot 17 which we transformed into Two View. Construction began in June 2017 with the builder reaching the "dry-in" point by October. At that point all the subcontractors work passed inspection and we were free to complete the interior ourselves. Most of what you see when you enter Two View was completed by our own hands ( and those of some friends). It is certainly a labor of love. From designing and getting blue prints for the cabin, to tracking down, milling and individually treating each of the exterior cypress boards, to the exterior stonework and chimney, to nailing each spruce wall and ceiling board, to finding and installing the hickory floors, to the bathroom tile work, to selecting the cabinetry, to hand picking all the furniture and accessories, to creating the deck railing, to the landscaping --we did It !!

The usual reaction from first time visitors to Two View is WOW !! when they enter and WOW WOW !! when they take in the views from the expansive deck. Although that is nice to hear, our true satisfaction comes from the knowledge that we accomplished a dream and did what many said was impossible for most individuals to do.

We invite you to enjoy your stay at our cabin, appreciate and treat kindly the furnishings and accessories, and be awed by what nature presents to your senses.

What makes this property unique

The gated community; the tranquility and quiet, yet close proximity to so much (described in the living room guest book); the warmth and coziness; the views: the distant mountains, including Grandfather mountain, to the north and your personal sunrise over South Mountain to the east; the working European style fireplace in the great room.
