The location of the cottage was amazing. The immediate neighborhood is peaceful and lovely for walking or running. There are several coffee shops and a really nice Safeway and other stores within easy walking distance.

This is a wonderful little place! Beautiful little neighborhood for walking around. Please with the location. It’s very walkable with wonderful shops nearby. The location is clean and welcoming. The host was very helpful and communicative. Highly recommend recommended.

Exactly as posted. Everything was compactly efficient! The area was so convenient we even took the train a few times, which is so much more affordable than Uber or Lyft. The place had privacy and a nice table and chairs if you want to sit outside. The bathroom was small but usable, and we didn’t use the stove, but the electric kettle, coffee pot and refrigerator were all in working order.

Read the prior reviews and you will have a great stay. Leave the water running in the bathroom sink in order to get it to heat up and then you will have a nice hot shower. Great neighborhood and close to BART

We loved the property. Beautiful and peaceful. Great place for short stay like a weekend or couple of days. However we were there in two weeks! The bed is not what I expected. My husband and I are tall and the Murphy bed is short. Overall our stay was good.

Good location

The cottage is near College Ave with shops and restaurants. The neighborhood is walkable. Also, easy access to BART. We would not recommend the cottage for more than one person. The bed is very short and tight for two. The space is tight for two to spend any time in the space.

A great little nook

This place is quite small, but it was wonderful for my one-person stay. Everything is as shown in the listing. The place is separate from the main house, but it’s very private and quiet. What a gem! I want to add that the neighborhood is great. It’s a short block’s walk to the Claremont/College shopping area, where you can find just about anything you want.

Nice little studio

Good apartment in a good neighborhood, expensive of course, but neat, well-maintained houses. Studio is very clean and cheerful. The bed takes a little getting used to, since it's a Murphy bed, so you're oriented sideways. The only real complaint would be the lukewarm shower. Otherwise, very nice.

Great neighborhood for small space

My adult offspring (27) stayed here for a few days and reported that it "took work" to open the gate to get into the space, which was small but cute, basically the size of a hotel room. She did not like the bathroom at all. The flooring in the shower is rocks, and water also got everywhere, she said. She said she would not stay here again, although she loves the neighborhood very much, and felt safe walking around the area. As for me, I booked the listing, and the property manager was very friendly and responsive, which I appreciated. Sounds like a nice space, just not right for everybody.

Cold cold cold

Overall, this rental is in a pretty neighborhood at a wonderful location near BART, a Safeway and lots of coffee shops and restaurants. However, hot water, heat, nice pillows, a functioning toilet and doors that lock are pretty essential items. None of those things were present during my stay. In fact, one night it was so cold that I checked into a hotel so I could take a shower and get a good night's sleep. I hope that the owner is able to do some repairs and upgrades. Otherwise, I would not stay there again and would recommend that others "pass" on this place.

Good location but…

The location was clearly the best thing about this vrbo. The downsides: new pillows definitely needed; a warm lighted lamp would be a plus; the side-ways situated bed took getting used to; had to have the vrbo agent come and make the TV work; in total, very small room; bathroom was pretty unacceptable with the shower curtain making it a hassle to take a shower and use the toilet. We ended up not showering at all due to the bathroom setup. The last thing was that we heard mice in the kitchen at night. Won’t be coming back to this place. It was way too expensive for what we got.

The only reason I took away one star was because the listing stated AC among the amenities, but there is no AC. There are two sets of French doors, but no windows. So unless you feel comfortable leaving a door open (no screen door either) at night, then the place is completely closed with only fans inside. I went back and reread the listing, and though at the top it prominently lists AC as an amenity, if you read down much further in the details it says - although we don't have AC, we do have fans. I found this deceiptful and was disappointed. However, I did run into the owner who lives in the front house. She is lovely and when I mentioned the AC on the listing she said "Oh, it shouldn't say that." So, I think she doesn't realize how the property manager has it listed. Besides that snafu, the cottage is adorable, beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Because of the high peaked ceilings, beautiful french doors and the access to the backyard, it does not feel claustrophobic in any way. I believe this is best for one person to stay. I was by myself, with one carryon piece of luggage and one shopping bag. I don't know where another piece of luggage would have fit without it being in the way.The Murphy bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the linens were very nice. I believe it is a double bed, not a queen, just in case this helps someone decide if they can fit two people. But I could be wrong.

Very uncomfortable space for me. The first issue was locking the french doors. There are instructions on the outside to assist but it took several attempts before it worked (each time). The bed felt smaller than a twin - too small for me to get rest. There are explicit instructions for saving water - do not let run while brushing teeth and so on - yet, the shower needs to run for several minutes before you can get just warm water. Plus a wet plastic shower curtain greets you every time you enter the bathroom - very bothersome. Though the location was the best part of this stay, I left two days early.

Super cute place, host went above and beyond

I booked this place for my parents and it was perfect. The place was super cute (as advertised), the coffee was great. They really enjoyed the little outside seating area for reading and/or snoozing. Both the host and the owner went above and beyond helping my mom locate her lost purse, which was a huge help and greatly appreciated. My parents report that they would love to come back.

Great place for a getaway weekend in Berkeley area!

Great location enabled us to get to Berkeley quickly and easily. Smaller unit worked well given we were out and about for most of our weekend. Side entrance made it easy-in, easy-out as well. Would stay here again.

Bigger than prison cell, smaller than a dorm room

This property was so tiny that the double bed had to fit in sideways. It was inaccurately described on the VBRO web page as being in Piedmont (which is one reason we rented it). There was no hint on that page that room is barely 150 sq ft. (Though the patio is nice.) We have traveled the world, and found ourselves from time to time in small hotel rooms, but this casita took the prize. Rather than stay the second night, we decamped to a hotel.
