We had a great stay. The house is very close to National Park and we were able to go two early mornings to view lava flow at Kilauea volcano. We felt like we had a home away from home.
Col-Villa is an amazing property with an ideal location to explore Volcano National Park and the Hilo side of the island. This vintage Hawaiian home has modern amenities that reflects the owners attention to detail and it's historical past. The king bed was super comfortable and everything in the home was upscale. We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends and family.
This is the place to be if you’re staying Volcano Village! Col-Villa is a well cared for historic home with lots of charm, minutes from Volcano National Park. The sounds of rainforest birds greet you in the morning. When it was too rainy for the park, we were able to enjoy the fireplace and cooking in the kitchen. Kirk was very kind and responsive, and left a great guide in the home with restaurant recommendations in the Village. Could not recommend this place enough!
This is a charming and historic home near the park. We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood which was delightful as well. The bathroom was a little tight but there were towel warmers in the bedrooms with luxurious towels. Overall, a lovely experience.
This property was amazing. Perfect location to everything I wanted to do on the big island. The house was bigger than I thought. The pictures do not do it justice. This was really an amazing spot and worth every penny.
We had a fabulous time in hawaii. Col Villa was absolutely wonderful. The house is beautiful. We walked around the neighborhood often, it was lovely, The house is next door to the park. AWESOME. We highly recommend this home. We absolutely would stay here again.
Love this traditional Hawaiian split-level hale! Impeccably and tastefully remodeled and decorated! Fabulous management; so easy to work with. Happy to recommend it, and would certainly stay here again!
We feel in love with the home and it was the perfect place to spend Valentine's Day! Quaint, quiet and the perfect location for our 3 day tour of Volcano National Park. We especially loved being outdoors watching and listening to the native birds flit around and chirp in the wind. My husband even saw the Hawaiian hawk! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
The house was very comfortable. Access to the national park was excellent.
Staying in this house gave us a sense of what life must have been like in an earlier, simpler time. We really found it comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. It was a great base for us to see more of that part of the island without a long day of driving getting to and from.
Gosh! We felt so fortunate to stay in this lovingly renovated house. Thank you for trusting us with this gem. We enjoyed reading about this history of the town & house. We left feeling relaxed & well rested. Mahalo!
Our family of three spent 3 days at Col-Villa while we explored Volcanoes National Park. Col-Villa was exactly like the pictures! It was a great space for us to relax after a long day of hiking. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. I keep wanting to call the house ‘cozy’ but it is way too big for that. Comfortable might be a better word. We appreciated the fresh cut flowers in the living and dining rooms and the towel warmers in each bedroom. I can’t say enough about our experience. It was really great!
This was a stay that we surprisingly enjoyed more than expected. Having decided on a somewhat last minute trip to visit my mother in the new year, we were so happy to have found Volcano Village. What a charming place, utterly wild, yet manicured. The house, fully contained within itself, stocked with everything you should need, was a welcoming refuge after full days spent exploring the National Park and environs. The furnishings were especially well-suited to the locale, and reflective of good design and upkeep. This is our first stay at a rental as we usually prefer luxury hotels and resorts. Well, this was a much worthwhile detour from our usual. We will always remember our brief yet memorable time here, marked by a very special peace and tranquility of place. Thank you for your hospitality.
We loved our stay at this home in Volcano! It was centrally located to all the activities we wanted to do from the south end of the island, in Volcano National Park and throughout Hilo. I feel people don't experience this side of the island enough because the weather isn't "as nice" but I'm telling you it didn't stop us from doing anything! It rained a little every day but eventually cleared up and was beautiful!
We were here over Christmas. It was my husband and I, 2 adult kids and my MIL. I was a bit worried only having 1 bathroom but it never ended up being a problem. The space this house provides is wonderful and you get spoiled. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was so cute and had enough dishes/cooking supplies we needed. It would be nice to have a few supplies like coffee, even to have 1 or 2 complimentary bags until you can get to a grocery store would be nice. The heat lamps were enough to heat up the rooms we were using and we even had a fire one evening.
If you are used to staying in a 5 star hotel this might not be for you, you are in an area where there are bugs and not all the windows are sealed real tight. You are going to get moths/little bugs in the house. Believe me I hate bugs and none of them bugged me here.
The furniture was very nice and comfortable! I can't say enough about this cute little old house except we will be back. Oh ya, Kirk was also very helpful and quick to respond. Thank you for helping us make such great memories as a family!
We LOVED Col-villa. It’s the not-a-tourist experience, a house with unique history, beauty, charm, intriguing quirks, and ALL the comforts our family of four needed for a great, home-like stay in the volcano areas of the Big Island. Thank you for making our visit extra-special!
Marilyn and I spent 8 mid-December days enjoying the Volcano HI area and our stay at Col-Villa. Loved the look and comfortable feel of the house and property. Location provided us easy access to Volcanoes National Park, the Puna area, Hilo and of course the small community of Volcano. No hesitation in recommending this as a place to stay while in the area. Mahalo, Kirk, and the Volcano community!
Historic home in the village, walking distance to the Sunday market, and great location to Volcanoes National Park. Was not as pristine as the pictures, but we had a great time, and Kirk was really nice as a property manager. It’s a good stay in Volcano.
A perfect place to “go back in time” to a very simpler Hawall. Immaculate home with a very warm and comforting vibe. My couldn’t help but reminisce about her vista to the village and park as a keiki. The place took right there as soon as she set foot inside.
But don’t let that give you a pause if you are want of modern features. All appliances and entertainment is current, modern era, including internet access.
We hardly left during our trip with the exception of a couple trips to Suisan in Hilo for fresh fish.
Thank you Paul for truly being a perfect host - and very quick to respond to any questions that we had!
We came to unplug, relax and soak up the natural sounds and catch up on our reading lists with the occasional song or two and it couldn’t have been better.
We absolutely loved our three nights in Col-Villa! The house is just great. Very well appointed, easy to find, and even within walking distance of the Sunday market and Thai food truck in town. It's an easy drive to Volcanoes National Park among other area attractions (like Ka'u coffee plantations!). This house provided the perfect getaway for a couple looking for a weekend retreat from city life on Oahu. We highly recommend Col-Villa!

Volcano Vintage Aloha at Col-Villa
Our 3 night stay was very comfortable for our family of 3. Beds and living room chairs and couch are very comfortable. House is an historic structure, so bedrooms are smallish but the living area, dining, and kitchen area are generous. We appreciated the rice maker, electric griddle, and French press for coffee ( in addition to the usual pots/ pans/ coffeemaker). The setting is quiet and serene- we enjoyed the abundant bird life. We had cool weather and rain while we were there and the electric heat kept us always comfortable. Col-Villa is a short walk to the Main Street of Volcano, and very close & convenient to the park entrance. Nice to be able to spend full days exploring the park, take in the evening programs, and be “home” in minutes instead of driving back to Hilo or Kona :-) Mahalo owner Kirk for providing us an opportunity to travel back in time a little- Aloha until next time!
