We had a blast during our stay. The house had all we needed to enjoy a weekend away, and was close to stores, multiple activities, and the Old Port. Communication with the host was wonderful! Cannot say enough great things!
We had a group of 12 and the house was perfect for comfortably sleeping everyone, with great proximity to all things Portland. Convenient to walk to nearby spots as well. An old and funky house, but just what we were looking for.
House was perfect for our Portland get-away for a dozen guys celebrating a friend's 50th birthday. Easy Ubers into the Old Port. Plenty of beds and seating in the common area for hanging out. Easy process to book, with lots of helpful information from the owner. Highly recommended!
Cute old house with a lot of charm! The host was responsive and made check-in and check-out very easy. Lots of beds and a nice big modern kitchen and living room area with plenty of seating. Plenty of space for off-street parking (we had 7 cars and there was still space for more cars). We made use of the grill and fire pit in the backyard. Overall an excellent option if you have a larger group!
It is a large older house which is good for a large group. There should be some upgrades (better pillows (felt like sleeping on a bag of cement), kitchen items (only 1 9x13 pan for a property that accommodates over 20 people!), beach towels because of all the beaches in the area, etc). It is in a good location. Very nice to have a washer and dryer. If you are a coffee drinker, the Kureg is nice.
Axel was a great host, and communicator. The house has a lot of space and is well equipped. The main floor bathroom needs more storage space for toiletries, i.e. medicine cabinet, shower caddy. It would have been nice to have a TV in the master bedroom. A little dusty in the main floor and the landscaping needed some attention.

Liked: Communication, location, listing accuracy
This home has a lot of that classic, older East Coast character. There's plenty of seating and beds for a large group. The location is excellent—close to Main Street in Westbrook, convenient to Portland's attractions, and near the airport. The kitchen is well-stocked, though it could use a few more plates and cups (silverware was plentiful). Communication with Axel was mostly good. However, we ran into a few notable issues. Due to a miscommunication between the host and cleaners, the house wasn't ready until 6:30 PM, and we had to put away the towels and dishes ourselves. Axel did graciously refund our first night to make up for this. Additionally, a few beds had hair and dirt on the sheets; when notified, Axel directed us to spare sheets, which we ended up changing ourselves. Lastly, the house is quite dark with limited natural light compared to the bright listing photos. We appreciate Axel’s responsiveness and the refund, but the cleanliness and check-in delays were definitely drawbacks to our stay.
This is a great property in perfect for our large bachelor party of 40 some thing dads looking to have a chill weekend with seafood and beer.
The kitchen was clutch. The hang zone was plenty big. The group table comfortably sat a bunch of dudes.
There were affectively five private bedrooms and then the large multi bed rooms.
Sound was not an issue. And the multiple bathrooms were also plenty for the group.
The spot would be great for a few families with kids or groups of friends.
Uber in and out of downtown Portland was very easy and cheap. 11 out of 10 recommend
Owner very responsive to all communications. Property close to airport and convenient to activities planned. Great accommodations for a family reunion, 14 of us, ages 9 to 75. Easy parking for 5 vehicles on the property. We all enjoyed our stay here.
Thank you!!!
Nine old friends met in Portland for the weekend and Highland House provided great accommodations. Close to a dozen craft breweries/distilleries and we even caught a hockey game. Plenty of room for everyone in the main living space whether playing poker or watching a movie and everyone had their own place to sleep. Nice outdoor fireplace and decent seclusion from the neighbors. The owner was easy to reach before the weekend, and provided tons of useful info leading up to the trip about the area. If we ever come to Portland again, Highland House would be the top of our list.
We were very pleased with our week at Highland House. Axel, the VRBO owner was responsive to our needs. He checked the day we arrived to be sure we had everything we needed. He asked prior to our visit what our interests were and then emailed us a list of places to visit/attractions in the area. The house was a great accommodation for 20 of us for this family reunion, ages 2 - 70. We highly recommend this VRBO.
