About this property
Michael's Cabin - A Cozy Well-Designed Cabin For A Woodsy Retreat
Newly built/designed cabin on the 'quietside' of Mount Desert Island (in the town of Southwest Harbor). A short drive to downtown, this one bedroom with loft cabin is warm and cozy. With gas fireplace, AC unit, and all the amenities one would need to begin and end a perfect day in Acadia National Park, it is situated close to nearby hikes, water access for boating, sailing, and ocean kayaking. Southwest Harbor has many wonderful restaurants, lobster pounds, coffee shops, galleries, and shopping.
Michael's Cabin is named after my brother, Michael. Two or three times per year, he would escape New York City to spend a week or so with me and the rest of his family in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Near my office and shop was a small woodlot and for years, every time Michael visited, he found himself drawn to the location and began to imagine a simple cabin there. Every year, Michael and I discussed his cabin and always said 'next summer.' Seven years later, I had an unexpected slowdown of work. Trying to keep my carpenters busy with odd jobs but running out of tasks, one of the boys suggested, “Hey, what about Mike’s cabin?” Being a builder, I made the cabin a little fancier than Michael imagined yet it sits so comfortably in that woodlot as if it were always there. Once you enter it, you are hard pressed to find a good reason to leave.
