A yurt is a tent-like circular fabric structure with a wood lattice frame that originated among the nomadic tribes in Asia. These permanent, colorful structures have thick canvas exterior walls that include reflective insulation and a high efficiency heat pump/AC unit so you can be comfortable during any season. Yurts are quickly becoming a new vacation experience that vacationers are enjoying throughout the US from cliff side views in California to ski lodges in Colorado. This is a memorable place to stay while enjoying the beauty of Acadia!

Family friendly escape/adventure

Aaron and Karen are the most gracious hosts! We had a wonderful time at Acadia yurts with our boys 10, 9, & 5. Great location and accommodations. Close to the national park, easy drives to hikes, beaches, food.

Relaxing Yurt Vacation

We stayed in the Flying Mountain Yurt with our dog and it was great! We arrived in the evening and the check-in was easy - instructions were emailed a few days before. The Yurt was clean and had everything we needed. Karen was responsive and we felt taken care of the whole time. The location of the Yurt was convenient and an easy drive to the different parts of Acadia and Bar Harbor. The yurt had information about local shops and things to do, which was helpful also. Walking our dog was easy and the stay overall was very relaxing. 100% recommend!

Ready to live in a yurt forever

My dogs and I had the best week at Acadia Yurts. It was comfortable, clean, warm, and I loved being able to see the starts through through skylight at night! We had everything we needed, and nature right outside the door. The shared pantry was a fantastic idea, and we also appreciated having access to laundry. Time to set up Acadia Yurts 2.0 for people who want to live there permanently!

Cozy Dog Friendly Getaway!

We loved our stay at Acadia Yurts! The yurt was so cozy and comfortable. Karen and Aaron included everything you could need while here and are very responsive if you have any questions. Great location in the woods for privacy but not too far from any hike. We loved being able to bring our Golden with us too!

Nice place to make the most of Desert Island

The place was clean and well equipped. We liked that we could cook our meals to save during the trip. The site was quiet and relaxing. Thanks for accepting dogs in some of the yurts, it changes everything for us.

Camping Made Easy

This property gives you the experience of camping but with all the amenities of home. The yurt we stayed in had everything we needed including upgraded WiFi as cell reception throughout Acadia is spotty. The location is perfect for a quiet get away, yet just minutes away from park trails, a coffee shop, grocery store and local restaurants. Lastly the owners are extremely friendly and welcome sharing their knowledge of the area. We will definitely be back!

Dreams Do Come True

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Acadia Yurts! The property and the owners are wonderful. The grounds are quiet, accommodating, and just overall rejuvenating. The yurt itself was clean, well-stocked, and felt like we were home. Proximity to the park and Bar Harbor was perfect. We cannot wait to come back.

Wish we would have stayed longer

Since we first pulled up we were pleased. It only got better. the entire place had a feel good vibe to it and it definitely added to the charm of the Yurt. We will be back to enjoy more time in Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and Acadia. Thank you for adding to the great time we had in Maine.

Amazing Stay at Acadia Yurts

My husband and I can't rave enough about our stay - we have been to many travel destinations and our vacation with Acadia Yurts is literally at the top of our list. Obviously Acadia National Park is beautiful but Acadia Yurts is exactly what they say "comfortably close to nature" - it was the perfect mix of reconnecting with nature in a comfortable relaxing environment.... like camping with a full kitchen, comfortable bed and private bathroom/shower... doesn't get much better. Highly recommend. And definitely book a massage, you won't regret it.

Amazingly Unique

Perfect. Everything you could need. Clean comfortable inviting. Quiet hours were a plus with kids who needed sleep, and adults too after long days of biking, kayaking, shopping and exploring. Felt private yet connected. The rain pitter patter on the yurt along with the glass dome looking to the trees were special, and made this an especially unique vacation stay.

Cozy home away from home

Great place to stay!! The yurt is amazing/ loved the natural light and the beauty of the surroundings. Karen and Aaron thought of everything- from the sound machine, ear plugs (neither which was needed) to the puzzle in case you need an activity, and the kitchen! I have a hard time sleeping away from home- but I did great in the yurt. So clean and the bed was comfy! Stay here on the Quiet side! We brought our dog too- and had an amazing time!!! Thanks to Karen and Aaron who were super responsive and gracious hosts!

Swope Annual Vacation

My husband, our 3 teenage kids (15, 16, and 16), and Pepper the pug rented out the two pet friendly yurts. These were perfect to have a nature feel but with amenities to suit a day of sweating from adventuring in Acadian National Park! The owners were so friendly and tentative and would text back whenever we reached out. It’s nice and secluded from all the madness of the harbor areas but still a quick drive to any and all area attractions. My kids enjoyed getting the complimentary coffee and supplemented with hot chocolate on the stove! Our dog barks at chirping birds, which we were worried about, but each yurt had a peaceful sound machine so we just cranked that up a bit and she felt right at home! 20/10 recommend!!!

Beautiful, cute and clean!

Brand new fully equipped yurt was more than I could imagine. It was like a apartment in the middle of the woods. The best part was being able to feel at home and to be able to bring my dog. Great location. Amazing setup, fresh linens and stocked kitchen, had everything I needed. Would recommend to anyone who wants to feel like they are home but camping. Nothing better than a mattress and running water in the middle of the woods. Thanks for a great experience, looking to come back next year!

The Only Way to Camp

Our stay at Acadia Yurts was everything we hoped for and more. The yurt was incredibly clean and comfortable. We stayed for a week with our two young children. Although we spent most of our time out and about exploring Acadia, the yurt provided a relaxing home base to unwind after a day filled with activities. Karen and Aaron were great hosts and they keep the property in outstanding condition. We enjoyed grilling outside and being able to do laundry in their cute little barn. Acadia Yurts is an amazing place to stay whether for a romantic getaway, honeymoon, or just a comfortable way to "camp" with kids. We miss the yurt already and can't wait to come back again sometime!

About the host

Host profile image
Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others.

Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen has been teaching yoga locally for over 6 years and now brings her practice to the Wellness Center (located on site at Acadia Yurts). Karen is also a licensed massage therapist and offers services onsite.

As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

What makes this property unique
