My husband and I enjoyed our visit to this cozy cabin with our dog on our first visit to Mt. Desert Island. It was full of detail and charm. It felt like the perfect size for a couple's getaway. The dog really enjoyed sleeping by the gas fire place as well. It met our needs for the week and very conveniently located as we hiked throughout the island. We also enjoyed having a little distance from the touristy bar harbor. Thank you John!
The cottage was a great time for my partner and I. We wanted a relaxing getaway for our anniversary and this place provided just that! Very close to Bar Harbor and fairly easy to navigate the area. John stayed in touch and truly showed that he wanted us to have a great stay!
This is a great place if you want peace and quiet during your mornings and evenings. Great space to just hang out with the family. The cottage is located on a loop that is almost a mile long with very little traffic if you like taking walks and the scenery is amazing. There is a fully furnished kitchen if you like to cook!! My daughter and I had a great stay. The owner is super nice and so very helpful with anything you might need. He answered all of the questions that we had come up and never seemed like we put him out!! This will be my go to place when I visit Bar Harbor again!!
I would 100% stay here again. It was a lovely location and super well appointed and comfortable cabin. Communication with John was smooth and easy. We highly recommend this VRBO.
We had an excellent stay at Far Niente. It has everything you need for a great trip to Bar Harbor. Close to the park and town. John’s cottage is so cozy. We felt at home there.
Incredible stay in the "off-season." Arrived to cozy, warm cabin which served as an incredible base for hiking and running. Will absolutely return here.
Clean, cozy, quiet, and well appointed. The location is great for Bar Harbor, Acadia, and surrounding areas. The home has a great layout (if you can navigate a spiral staircase) and was a perfect vacation rental. The host is helpful and offers timely and accurate communication. We loved our stay.
The property was thoughtfully equipped to provide anything a guest might need. It was incredibly quiet and convenient to Acadia and other destinations. John was helpful with suggestions and directions as needed.
We loved our weekend stay. The property is tranquil and cozy but is also a short drive to many great restaurants/bars and hikes. John is a great host and very easy to communicate with from booking to check out. Would definitely book again in the future. Thanks John!
This was our first trip to Bar Harbor and we were unsure where to stay but ended up deciding on this little cottage. Turned out to be the perfect place. We loved it. John was always more than accommodating and helpful and genuinely wanted our stay to be great. Will definitely return.
We had a fabulous stay at Far Niente, and John is an exceptional host. The place was perfect for us, our adult son, and his sweet dog, Bear. Well-appointed, clean, full of precious details, and welcoming, the cottage was perfectly located to both Bar Harbor and the National Park entrance. We made such a great choice! Highly, highly recommend.
The cottage was comfortable and relaxing after busy days in the Park. Very convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor, with well equipped kitchen for eating in. John was helpful and easy to communicate with. A new washing machine was installed days before our arrival. Thurston's lobster pound is a must! Would definitely stay here again.

early spring visit
John was an amazing host.
One of the best vrbo experiences that I have had. John was very prompt with communication and accommodating.
The cottage had everything that he said it would have, we went without anything!
Easy to find and great location! Fun walks on the shore line.
Thanks for a great get away!
My husband and I had a wonderful time. This little cottage was great. The ocean is just a short walk away and everything in Bar Harbor is quick car ride. The host is very attentive and helpful. He even sent us a list of restaurants (we went in the off season so some places are closed) that were open and near by. The kitchen had everything we needed. It was comfortable, private, and clean. We will be going back in sure.
Saw pictures of this cottage on line. Wondered if it would be as nice as it looked. It was perfect! We heard from John asking us
for our arrival time so the place would be warm and cozy when
we arrived. It was! Walking in is my great memory. Stay here.
You will love it.
We could not have asked for a better house to stay in that accommodated all of us, and all of our needs, and with the bonus that it was the cutest place that I have ever stayed in. In our group was myself, my daughter, her best friend, my father and his small dog. it was perfect and every way and the perfect homebase for our Acadia trip. John was an exceptional host and was readily available for any question, Recommendation or need that we had. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend his home to everyone that I know, visiting Bar Harbor! Hope to be back soon
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this cabin! John (the owner) is one of the kindest individuals I’ve worked with while renting through Vrbo. He checked in at least a week before the stay, gave multiple recommendations on places to visit, and truly wanted to make sure our stay was worthwhile. The cabin was homey and comfortable. It’s a quick drive to the Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and the main road that will take you off the island or to different parts of the island. Our only minor concern was that the cabin was not as clean as we would have expected upon arrival, but nothing that detoured us! We both said as we left that we would consider staying again if we had a chance to visit Acadia again.
After defending thesis, I took a two-week "writer's retreat" at Far Niente, a delightful cottage (plus) a couple miles north of Bar Harbor. The host was gracious and attentive, the property enchanting and well-equipped, and the location sublime and serine. I wrote and read a bit, and found myself on a hike, bike ride, or canoe paddle most every day. And my writing and reflection was productive. Overall, exceptional (if not magical).

Great Stay
Had a very enjoyable week at Far Niente. My husband and I stayed with my parents and three dogs. While the cottage is small, there was enough room for everyone to be comfortable. Having the extra bedroom on the porch was very helpful in giving everyone privacy. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed for the week. It is in a great location - close enough to get to Bar Harbor quickly, but far enough to avoid the crowds. It is also super convenient for exploring Acadia. Having easy access to the water was a huge plus and we enjoyed exploring the beach and finding The Ovens at low tide. Overall, it was a great week and I would whole heartedly recommend a stay at Far Niente.

Something magical
We booked in January when it seemed winter was mild..lol. Then winter came to all of us on the east coast. We do live in Delaware but have some harsh winters. I though Easter in Maine would be cold and maybe windy. I did not expect 2 feet of snow on the deck and more plowed in the drive. But it was so gentle of a place that none of this mattered. We cleared the deck so we could grill and had a day at 63 degrees. The cottage is a great place to walk a dog. We saw so many deer just hanging around in the street. I am sure in the summer it is a grand place with its strange magic..Loved it!
