A yurt is a tent-like circular fabric structure with a wood lattice frame that originated among the nomadic tribes in Asia. These permanent, colorful structures have thick canvas exterior walls that include reflective insulation and a high efficiency heat pump/AC unit so you can be comfortable during any season. Yurts are quickly becoming a new vacation experience that vacationers are enjoying throughout the US from cliff side views in California to ski lodges in Colorado. This is a memorable place to stay while enjoying the beauty of Acadia!

Exactly what we were looking for! A place to call home while we explored Acadia and Bar Harbor! Fit 6 girls comfortably with surprisingly no arguing over the bathroom! Would definitely stay here again!
The yurt was perfect for our trip to Acadia. Very comfortable and clean. Easy access to the park and surrounding areas. Lots of thoughtful details in the yurt. Staff was very helpful!
This was the first time I have ever stayed in a yurt, and this place has definitely changed the way I will be traveling from now on. The yurt felt like I was staying in a house!
We stayed at Acadia Yurts in July '25 in the Norumbega Mtn Yurt. The location in the woods was beautiful. So quiet out there with only very quiet camping for Acadia employees across the street. Within a reasonable distance to main attractions and Bar Harbor but far enough to enjoy being away from the fray. The yurt itself was perfect and very comfortable for cooking and relaxing. All the amenities you could need. And almost anything else you could need is found across the street in the community barn which you can sign-out for use. Everyone was respectful and friendly. We enjoyed using the community fire pit one night for some smores!
This was my family's first time staying in a yurt, and we were very happy with our experience. Karen and Aaron designed the entire place with an eye toward comfort and convenience. The kitchen was equipped with every accessory we could want. I also appreciated the board games we were able to borrow from the Red Barn. My husband enjoyed the flotation session in the Wellness Center, too. I highly recommend Acadia Yurts!
Our yurt was a great home base for our family to explore Acadia and MDI! It had everything we needed and we appreciated the amenities after long days spent exploring the park. Aaron and a Karen were great hosts and everything was as advertised. We definitely look forward to coming back in the future!
We had a great stay at Acadia Yurts! Kids enjoyed the loft and parents enjoyed the space of the larger yurt. Karen and Aaron are great hosts; always responsive and helpful. We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great experience near Acadia National Park!

Yurting is fun!
Great location- great concept - fun stay near all the wonders of the Island, on the quiet side. Our way to vacation!!
The yurt, in addition to just being fun, was extremely clean and had everything we needed. The location was 30 minutes or less to everything on Mount Desert Island, but much quieter than the east side. Can't recommend enough and will certainly be back next time we're visiting Acadia!
Nice quiet spot in the woods and well appointed yurt. A few of our group also used the Wellness Center and very much enjoyed the services. We would definitely return
AMAZING! Is the only word that can summarize our stay. From booking to departing. The property exceeded everyone in my parties expectations! It was like our home away from home. If ever in the area again, we are staying at Acadia Yurts!
The yurt felt warm and inviting for our fall getaway. The kitchen was adequately stocked with cookware and the couple of things we thought were missed were found available in the laundry barn.
By far the most perfect spot to stay in Acadia. The balance between nature and convenience is perfect. Incredibly well maintained and clean. 10/10 we will be back.
The yurt provided an excellent home base for us while we explored Acadia and was the perfect balance of nature and comfort for our family! We loved our time there and would not hesitate to book again. Karen and Aaron do a wonderful job!
Property was exactly as described. We had an incredible stay. I am not a "camper" so slightly nervous before arrival but this was honestly much larger and much more comfortable than the beach condo we usually rent. Highly recommend!
We just loved this adorable little yurt village. A magical little paradise separate from the hustle and bustle of the more heavily populated parts of the area. Perfect location with close access to some of the best parts of Acadia. Already recommending it to our friends. We loved every minute!
We experienced glamping for the first time and are sold! Comfortably close to nature is a perfect description.
Great location. The wellness center was a wonderful fringe benefit. We took two yoga classes.
Perfect glamping experience on the edge of Acadia National Park. Responsive and knowledgeable hosts. Amazing yurt! I'd give it 6 stars, but 5 is the limit.

Awesome experience
We had a great stay in the Yurts. My wife and I stayed in the yurt that has the loft with our 3 kids. We had plenty of room and the kids loved having room to run around and play. The yurts were incredibly clean and had everything you needed. The owners were very attentive and seemed like great people. Thanks again for a great stay.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Roper
Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others.
Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen has been teaching yoga locally for over 6 years and now brings her practice to the Wellness Center (located on site at Acadia Yurts). Karen is also a licensed massage therapist and offers services onsite.
As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!
