Private studio - Adorable! Perfect for one or two people. Double French Doors open onto a little unpaved private road featuring your own outdoor sitting area for relaxing with a good book and your favorite beverage or dining al fresco next to a little flower garden. Our neighbors on both sides also supply lovely flower gardens - so good of them! This unit has a small kitchenette, the bath features a tiled shower, a queen bed as well as a fold out sleeper couch if needed.
You are tucked into the charming village of Suttons Bay just a minutes walk from shopping, dining, the beach, the Tart Trail and located in the center of Leelanau County.
Leelanau is home to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore Park, Leland Historic Fishtown, and many trails for hiking, biking and exploring. Golf courses are in good supply and the county boasts over 25 wineries to visit and taste local wines. Traverse City is 18 miles away if you crave a little more action. The dining scene there is vast and diverse.

The place is absolutely adorable! CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! Stocked with all of your kitchen needs plus more. Location was spot on. Could walk right into town or the marina. Very quiet and peaceful. Already looking forward to coming back again.

Nice studio apartment very close to downtown Suttons Bay

We loved the proximity of the apartment to all the restaurants and shops. Also very easy drive to Leland and all of the area wineries. Nice secluded area off the alley behind the st Mary’s street. Would definitely stay here again!

Perfect in every way!

Everything about the property was exactly what we hoped for for our weekend in Suttons Bay. Located in a quiet neighborhood, just 2 blocks from the beach and downtown shopping. The studio is just the right size for a single or couple. The queen bed was wonderfully comfortable, dressed with nice linens. The kitchen appointed with everything we needed to have breakfast or dinner at the cafe table in the corner. Plenty of hot water in the nicely remodeled bath, and fluffy cotton towels. Parking is right outside the door. Room for 2 small cars, and still large enough for our full sized van. We would have loved to take advantage of the inviting outdoor seating area surrounded by flowers, but it was just too hot out. So pretty to look at though! I want to take a moment to address a previous review that said there was mold. There is NO MOLD. For the 25% of the population that carries the HLA-DR gene variance (like me), this is critical info! I brought my portable ozone machine with me (just in case), but did not need it. The room was clean and fresh, with not even a hint of mold. (and trust me when I tell you, as a mold survivor, I have a nose like an ant eater. ;-) ) So, book with confidence, knowing you will find only a clean, fresh studio awaiting your arrival! All in all, it was a delightful stay! We are already looking forward to returning next year. :-)

Get Away on Grand Traverse Bay

We recently spent 3 nights in this lovely, cozy studio. It was perfect for our needs. We absolutely loved the location-convenient to almost everything in Sutton's Bay! We loved sitting out in the little garden area. It was very quiet and private. We plan to visit again!

Lovely location but…

This was a great location and owners were very responsive. The decor was lovely though the space does have a significant mold issue. My allergies/asthma struggled with that and we couldn’t spend much time there other than to sleep. Again - while it’s lovely, if you have allergies may be a challenge to stay here.

Great location to wedding venue

Location was perfect. Walk to everything in Suttons Bay. Log weekend stay for a wedding at a nearby barn venue only 7 minutes away. The studio was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. More space than expected for the two of us, really nice new shower! All amenities were great. Host was wonderful. It was fun to walk to local restaurants for meals, the shops were high end, and the lake provided incredible views and hikes. We loved this stay.

Centrally located Buzzard’s Roost

The Buzzard’s Roost was centrally located to all the areas we wanted to visit from Northport, Leland, Suttons Bay to Traverse City. We visited the area to rock hound and celebrate our 26th anniversary. I was especially pleased that we were only a short drive to Leland. Parking directions were spot on and check in was a breeze. Perfect size for two people that needed a place to rest at night!

Holly and Jerome Smith are both northern Michigan natives, but they spent their formative years in New York, running some of the region's best restaurants and vinting wine. Back home in God's country, Jerome is still a wine importer and Holly manages the Mawby tasting room (best bubbles period!). It is safe to say hospitality is in their blood. It should be no surprise then that custom concierge, catering and event services are available - just inquire if interested. Need help with tastings, tours, wine and shopping, local sourcing and foraging or just the skinny on the best restaurants and the local scene? They can help there too.

Why they chose this property

Both Holly and Jerome managed vacation rental properties in Leelanau county for other resort companies and after learning the lay of the land and meeting so many wonderful people, they knew that the adorable recently added little studio attached to their own home (which is now their latest personal project) would be perfect for visitors. This 100+ year old Victorian was purchased by my aunt as a pied-a-terre for her to come visit us and escape the summer heat in Washington D.C. where she had some mysterious position with the CIA. It has a great location in the heart of Suttons Bay with easy access to all the amenities the village has to offer visitors. Jerome's great-great grandfather was an original Suttons Bay settler, and their love for the area runs deep.
